- Hello! In this video I walk you through the process of starting your own homelab!
A homelab is a place where you are free to explore the world of computers in any way you see fit. Whether you want to explore computer networking, try out a new operating system you've never before, or build a complex network of interconnected systems. The power is in your hands, after this tutorial you will have the foundation of your homelab setup for these new adventures.
First we install Proxmox and the rest will be history.
Stay tuned for more homelab content!

Great move on first lab
I like that you have dust on your hardware. no sarcasm...I have dust on my hardware. makes you more relatable than those "fancy" channels
Hahaha, I figured what better way to integrate myself within the Homelab community, i had to decide what I was going to do with all my hardware 😂
Awesome. I need to get a stack of some minis and get rid of the old huge desktops in my lab too.
Yes! I feel like space consumption is so undervalued in the world of Homelab. Have fun!
Thanks for this. Im pretty new to this stuff and have a couple of those mini pc's laying around with the N100 inside of them, and someone suggested if I wanted to play around and learn some linux stuff and homelab, then to use proxmox. A lot of the stuff out there was a bit complicated to me but this is easy to follow. Going to follow along for the rest of this journey
Great video for your first one keep up the good work from the (UK).
I really appreciate the support! I am working on a brand new video for this week, stay tuned!
I'm just starting my home lab journey, just ordered a mini PC yesterday to get started with proxmox and docker. Look forward to seeing what else you have coming up.
That’s awesome 👏, I hope to keep you motivated and show you the endless learning opportunities along the way!
Great video! I also just started my 3 node cluster with HP ProDesk 600 G4 Mini 's 😀. If you don't plan to use your Wifi card (like i did) you can replace them with 2,5 Gbit adapters. With some 3D printed parts you can replace your second displayport connection with a 2,5 Gbit port.
Wait that’s actually amazing, I’m not too familiar with 3D Printing however I’m curious 😮. Where is the best source to get these custom parts?
Thanks for your comment 😊
i have same setup like you BUT with i5-8500T 6 cors cpu , keep up the good work man 👌
Homelabbing is such a fun hobby! I really love lower power machines too because its the same fun with a lot less power consumption! I am glad you are enjoying the videos! I am working on some more for the weeks to come!
These are a great choice, I do a similar thing with the Dell Optiplex Micro's after the zombie apocalypse destroying the price of Raspberry Pi's I switched to these ex business machines, most will take a NVME and a 2.5" SSD and they have another M.2 port for a wifi card or even a Coral NPU, I'm running Proxmox and Truenas on mine, fantastic little machines, I have 5 stacked on the side like a blade server, bes of all these can be found for way under $100 USD fully ready to run.
You may want to look at usb display adapter to record the screens instead of a camera just a thought as channel grows.
Any recommendations?
@SelfHostedToast not used any for a number of years - have a look at usb capture cards or screen record in windows
@MartinHiggs84 thank you for the information, will definitely look into it for the future
@@SelfHostedToast that's alright 👍 thanks for the positive comments 😀
Reminds me of Amherst college room
Subscribed. That explanation/flow was better than 90% of other videos about it, could've been a bit shorter though. Would love some home assistant or media (jellyfish...) videos too, if you are into those.
I am so glad you enjoyed the video, I appreciate your comment as well, I am hoping to grab more things to test out in my lab soon, I have tons more planned including HA 😁
In the bios: Power Loss - I would turn to on
Then if you have a power cut it would power back up when get electricity.
This is great, thank you
@@SelfHostedToast ideal if you have an UPS connected as well
I use my hp dumb terminal as a windows server 2019 core! that way I taught myself powershell. I run my homelab thru that using hyper-v core.
Hoping to learn hyper-v and powershell sometime in my career
Hello
I like your video, but I give you a friendly advice: Clean the components / PC before filming. Personally, it doesn't bother me, but you will have people who will criticize this thing. Good luck with your RUclips channel.
I appreciate the feedback, and I definitely agree, keeping components clean is optimal for performance! Thank you for watching 😎
Excellent demonstration video definitely made the setup way less intimidating for a beginner to Proxmox. Looking forward to move.
That’s the goal! I am super glad you enjoyed the video, there is definitely more where that came from 👍🏾
The powerful units you have in cluster makes me jealous 😂 I’m trying to set up some Dell Wyse 5070 in a cluster and your units put them to shame lol
Hahaha 😂, I love these little powerhouses!
Brilliant video.
I to have 3 of thease but 2 have a problem that I'm trying to work out.
mine are 2 65w ones and 1 35w one
I love low power machines, I’m thinking of getting a zimaboard someday 👀
The 2 I have problems with will not let me in to the bios so if I wanted to install windows it will not let me unless I take out the battery for 30 seconds then I can do the f keys
4:58 ARCH
I run arch btw.
Just make sure you don't fall for the 'crabs in a bucket' mentality from your peers.
