- Daniel Day-Lewis gives an unstoppable performance in his final film, Phantom Thread. Which is your favorite of these outrageous insults?
#PhantomThread #DanielDayLewis #NeverCursed
Set in the glamour of the 1950’s post-war London, renowned dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock (Daniel Day-Lewis) and his sister Cyril (Lesley Manville) are at the center of the British fashion, dressing royalty, movie stars, heiresses, socialites, debutants and dames with the distinct style of The House of Woodcock. Women come and go through Woodcock’s life until he comes across a young, strong-willed woman, Alma (Vicky Krieps), who soon becomes a fixture in his life as his muse and lover. Once controlled and planned, he finds his carefully tailored life disrupted by the scariest curse of all…love. And so begins a Gothic Romance of twists, turns and power struggles of “pure, delicious pleasure” (Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian) that is “devilishly funny and luxuriantly sensuous” (Dana Stevens, Slate).

“The tea is going out, the interruption is staying right here with me!”
That's how I feel. It is rude, but I can relate to the feeling.
"... right now I'm just admiring my own gallantry for eating it way you've prepared it..." 😂
Never has a self-compliment been so brutal, savage and classy all at the same time.
I will start using the line whenever im being forced to do something i dont want to do 😂😂😂😂
@@TsarOfRuss 🤣🤣🤣
"l cannot begin my day with confrontation"....l laughed right out loud.....dmfunny yet terribly cutting and cruel
“Entirely too much movement at breakfast!” Lmao
I say that line to my wife at least once per week…. That and “i simply dont have time for confrontation”
Sadly I understand what he means
"It's as if you just rode a horse across the room" so very much would be the perfect line to deliver to my wife multiple times a week. She in turn neve acknowledges how foooooookin loud she is. Instead, much like this character, she accuses me of having an issue with sounds and noises.
this movie is fantastic because the characters are so real. the flaws in them are so common, and human. yes theyre terrible, but it explores REAL questions about love, dependences, walls, complexes, opening ourselves up to others, compromises, and the biggest question of all which is "what matters more? keeping my ego whole or sharing life with another human being?"
This film's an unsung masterpiece.
I absolutely love Daniel Day Lewis movies and somehow I had not watched this total gem until two years ago. I adore every minute of this movie and have seen it at least three times. Bravo.
He’s the best, my favorite actor. He doesn’t have to do movies every year like some actors. He’s not in the tabloids nor commercials.
"Do you have a gun? ... Are you here to kill me? ... Do you have a gun?" 10/10 lmaoo
2:00 "Right now I'm just admiring my own gallantry for eating it the way you've prepared it"
We all act like Woodcock from time to time. He does it 24/7 365. He annoyed me the entire film…which means Daniel did he job wonderfully. I would have poisoned him myself if I had to live with him.
The three principal actors here are the equal of any leading three in film history.
Narcissism at it’s fineness. Brilliant and grotesque acting by the finest.
Or you can call it difference in age and culture ...or psychologically "Introvert vs Extrovert" ... but yes, tons of Narcissism too.. she is very strong though, this is what it takes to really know a strong woman
Also a dash of OCD.
Such a great movie. The acting and story. And the music! I ran out to buy the soundtrack.
Love this movie, just watch it again, so many times.
Soundtrack is divine
Johnny Greenwood - Radiohead/The Smile, composed the soundtrack
Everyone and everything in this movie is perfect.
An absolutely brilliant movie about the world's biggest babies.
"Alma, there's a strange boy in the room"
NO-ONE GIVES A TINKER’S FUCKING CURSE ABOUT MRS VAUGHAN’S SATISFACTION
I so loved this movie, I own it now, for ever. Day - Lewis is the best actor, period, and what a great discovery Vicky Krieps turned out to be. I had a thing with a younger woman I met while riding the metro in Paris, she was Algerian, a teacher, it reminded me of that time…..bon voyage!
Truly one of the funniest films ever made.
7:11 my favorite line In the entire movie
"What a model of politeness you two are"
"admiring my own gallantry" lol
I absolutely love this movie
Daniel Day Lewis is our finest actor since the peak of Marlon Brando.
DDL has been consistently brilliant. That cannot be said of Brando. Brando also took roles in some real stinkers later on. DDL's worst movie is still "good" by any stretch of the imagination.
"It does concern me! It concerns me very much, Cyril, because it's hurt my feelings. It's hurt my f.. feelings."
The line that stuck with me on first viewing of this movie and it still pops into my mind. No idea why. I find it so unexpected from Reynolds, but also completely in character.
Probably because DDL uses this line as the grain of his character. It's part of what actors do. Most of the time when you read a script there would be one line that consists the basis of the character because it just strikes you in a different manner. I would believe (given I am an actor myself) that this line could be it for him. It's all speculation so do not believe me, haha.
Fantastic movie.
An amazing wife made me watch this film
If i were Alma that dinner would have gone alot worse.❤
The greatest living actor.
This movie is just great. Such a mood.
Fantastic montage
Their Performances; For It Is The Possession of Such Elegance; and Heirship; Intelligence and This; with Such Wealth In Its Creation Of the greatness of Them:
Ah! The TEA interruption is my favorite, and I thought you'd left it out~ Saved the best for last ^^
Have you come here to kill me? Do you have a gun? Where is your gun?😂
She used the method spies are more likely to use.
The sounds... my god... I keep thinking of Michael Mann!
I love Alma’s English accent.
That was Hilarious!
Only 3 Oscar’s !?
We’ve been had…
It would appear
I have given up eating asparagus!!
What a brilliant actor
As Do I; He May Feel Compelled To Call Her; "A Wretched Witch!!!"
Phantom Thread was fantastic and probably one of Andersons bests along with one of the best films ever, and with time I think it'll be more appreciated. But, the bots in the comment section make me question my judgement, was this film actually great, or was I fooled, why would the studio do this?
Reynolds looks like Mr Burns when he became Dracula.
*whispering* yeah that hairdo is totally q*eer
LOL, this got me into a laughing fit, thank you!
Ive worked fora guy like this...fricken impossible to deal with
🥰
Next.."Phantom Chic"...born and raised in the mind of a Helter.
This is the sort of movie Eddie Izzard was talking about when it comes to American audiences. You can't eat popcorn to something like this.
I Am Shocked That; He Is Not In Possession of A petite fork; In Order That He May Observe Ever Ounce Of How It Tastes.
Capolavoro assoluto!! Mi spiace solo che la bravissima Wicky Krips, intervistata al riguardo, faccia fatica ad ammettere che ha lavorato con dei veri geni, tra l'altro umili, cosa che lei non sembra essere, peccato!!
Does Clothing Stores Have Mannequin Statues?
based on these filmclips is it movie about a man just being bothered by the people around him all the time? I can feel that lol. I choose more tact of course and often keep my mouth shut haha. "the tea is going out, the interruption is staying right here with me"
This is a comedy
She knows how he prefers his veggie. But yet she prepares it her way without asking him first. I’d be upset too.
I'll get hate for this but Alma was crazy and was very oppositional. I know he had terrible OCD and a need for control but her putting butter on his mushrooms knowing he didn't like them shows she wanted to be in control. But he was controlling about his routine, not so much about imposing food on other people. They were wrong for each other. They both needed therapy.
Yeah my ex is like that
Hey your subscribers are more but views are very very lessss😮......
What a drama queen
Too much improv.
The script has it all written actually :)
