Nice job Brock. Good advice in attacking the problem one item at a time. Glad it was just as simple as this. I must admit if the tractor was shutting off because of the backhoe, I would be scratching my head too!
It was confusing, but I think tipping the tractor that direction was making that switch short out. Probably the spring that pushes the ball back out was weak
Nice job! Glad you were able to fix it before taking it to the dealer! The seat safety switch just started flaking out on my X728. I tried a jumper and it fixed my issue, so I bought a replacement safety switch and it seems to be working better, but it's still not 100%.
Glad you were able to fix it! I'm also glad you are documenting all of your maintenance issues and/or procedures -- good resource for me once I receive my 2038R which is about to ship!
@@RockhillfarmYT I was originally told April 22, but dealer told me yesterday it was "about to ship" so looks like I won't be disappointed with any major delay.
Appreciate the video. It helps out the others like me that have tractors with switches like yours. Also Appreciate all your efforts and time in making videos. I've been enjoying them.
Good job diagnosing this issue! Seat safety switches are a pain. I think the biggest reason smaller tractors have them is because of people using a mid mount mower. Hopefully your problem is solved for good!
I feel better and it's not even my tractor. Hopefully that was the problem. I keep thinking about that darn seat switch. Like you said if I rock forward in the seat to try and see what I am doing the thing shuts off. I can see why it's on there but sure would be nice if it even gave me a second or two before it shut off.
Congratulations! Extremely happy to see good people succeed. You deserve all the best. Congratulations on hitting 15k. Oh, and thanks for making this video too.
Good review and analysis, Brock. Just need to know.....will you be supplementing JD's Owner's Manuals with procedures to suggest for diagnosing problems?
Brock would you think if the plastic was cocked it would leak fluid? Mine appears to have got hit by a stick and is leaking pretty good. Hoping it’s the plastic as it looks cocked. Gonna pick up a new one tomorrow.
Be careful running the engine in a garage. Carbon Monoxide can kill you even with the doors open. The engine exhaust should be outside. I love your videos! Great job!
Hey, Thanks for sharing this. My 1025 has done this since day one and I thought this was the issue also. I usually place a wadded up towel in front of the heat shift so it won’t move and that works however I would like to fix it right. Would you happen to have a price for the switch and a part number to order? Also I wonder if you have had any issues with it shutting down since you did this fix? Thanks again Joe, Lindley, Ny
I did not save the part number, although my local dealership was able to look it up and get it for me pretty quickly. I have not had any more problems since
Quite possible. The only other explanation I can think of is that there has to be a little spring that pushes that ball out and then a lever pushes the ball in. If that spring was weak then tilting the tractor could make it make contact on the switch
@Rockhill farm took the box off my truck and 2 out of 6 tail light bulbs worked, checked and there was power, bulbs were good still didn't work, then added some dielectric grease and they all worked! I swear by the stuff. Hope your problem is fully resolved.
The NSS was the 1st thing I ever broke on my tractor. Ran over a stick with the front tire and it speared right into the NSS breaking it off at the block and rubbed wires bare that were in the vicinity. I was going fairly fast down my driveway when it happened and the tractor just came to an abrupt stop. That scared me more than anything...lol
KIoti (my CK3510SE) which is junk, has a recall on my safety switch. Was doing the same thing....They replaced the entire seat bottom including all the seat safety switch components. I would never disconnect a safety device or remove an OEM guard in any way. Asking for trouble. You should hold JD accountable. You paid a lot of money for that tractor.
I hope that you checkout the hydro fluid so you don't have anything else that will be a problem. If you blow up the hydro system you minus well get another Timmy
My mother in law had a tractor at one point that a jumper wouldn't work on. Apparently some are backwards, so sitting on it would open the circuit instead of closing it. (Probably due to the safety concerns) Just throwing that out there in case anyone tries this and it disables theirs instead.
Gotta ask yourself the questions…. How did the pilgrims ever kill game with out camouflage? How did we ever survive as a species without air bags? How did farmers ever grow anything with out safety switches on their equipment? I say that we are dumbing down as a people always blaming someone else for a problem instead of thinking for ourselves! Lawyers and the blame game are TOTALLY the cause for all the unnecessary safety crap that doesn’t help a lick!! If you don’t have enough sense NOT to reach in around an operating PTO shaft……YOU DO NOT NEED TO OPERATE EQUIPMENT PERIOD!! Common sense is the endangered species in the world that we live in today!! Glad you ran the issue down. By pass everything you can and your life will get much better with out any future problems
I see a lot of truth in what you are saying. Part of it comes down to the legal system awarding judgments on lawsuits. If someone does something stupid and can sue for millions of dollars when it was their own fault, then the manufacturer starts to put more and more things like this on the machine My wife and daughters went on a girls weekend so I’m stuck in the house with a whole bunch of grandkids. I’ve been watching these guys build log cabins on RUclips all by hand and thinking about how people used to do things People get mad at me for not having the chain on the plastic cover that goes over the PTO. I don’t think it matters. At all.

Good for bush hog. They are an older brand that might have some common sense. I got a bunch of negative comments about mine, so I’ve had this discussion several times about the purpose of those chains and how they could hypothetically let you know if the bearing in the plastic shield is bad. For me it’s just one more thing to mess with and the chains always seem to break because they’re so thin. They are not keeping anyone safe is my opinion
I’m thinking about putting that jumper back in the safety switch for the seat. That would be really handy when running the stump grinder or wood chipper Not to mention when you accidentally shut it off just moving
All that safety stuff is BS and just causes problems. I can see the seat one. But the one to go into reverse with the deck on, shift to neutral, etc is all BS. If you need those safeties in place, you probably shouldn't be running a tractor! But these days, everyone wants to sue even though it's their fault. After my parents got a zero turn I went up and took the old tractor they had and I used all my childhood that was a White GT-1855 and all of the safety switches were bad. I pulled all of the yellow wire that connected all of the safety switches and jumped the wire for the whole system and never had an electrical issue again.
The seat safety switch is for old operator and in case they fell off due to stroke or heat stroke etc. etc. the machine will shut off automatic for the safety of everyone. you can add a bypass switch to keep the engine running while you get off the machine which is again pointless because it only takes 1 to 3 seconds to start the engine back up..
