Back in the 70's people would make this for potlucks with pudding mixed with Cool Whip. They'd layer it in a trifle dish or do it in a 9x13. There were also plenty of fruit Jello, Cool Whip, and fruit delights delights to be had.
I use this exact recipe, except that instead of using actual bananas, I cut the vanilla pudding mix 50/50 with banana pudding mix. It's always the biggest hit at my catering events.
This is a very good American southern style nanner puddin' just like when I was a kid. If you are really wanting to class it up and impress some VIP guests, use chunks of banana bread instead of the traditional nilla wafers
Add some bourbon to the recipe. It will make it that much better. It was one of the things I brought to the street bbq party last year and people went crazy for it.
When incorporating the pudding into the whipped cream: transfer the whipped cream into another bowl, then use the stand mixer to briefly (20-30 sec tops) whip the pudding, then bring to cream back to the bowl and then use low speed till combined.
For us here in Canada Jello refers usually to the jelly form, people add fruit cocktail to it to make a jelly salad or booze to make a jello shot. That to us is called instant pudding. Jell-O is actually the brand name. That does look good however, I wonder how it would freeze in a pan lined with graham wafer crumbs as it makes such a large batch.
I find it easier to mix the whipped cream into the pudding. Mix in about a third of whipped cream fairly vigorously then gradually fold in the remaining whipped cream a little at a time.
@@bayareaartist999I can respect that, but honestly making homemade pudding the night before is absolutely worth it and you likely have everything you need in your pantry already.
That's my Gram's banana pudding right there. Or if you have it do my Granny's using the heat and serve jello pudding and putting a meringue on top before baking it.
One of my favorites... I also add Philidelphia cream cheese to the mixture and along with the Nella waffers (mini version) I add some crumbled up shortbread cookies.😎
When I was in Texas last year, I think I ate a banana pudding portion almost every day of the 2 weeks I was there 🍌!! Buc-Ees and even the pudding at Stripes convenience stores was good!
Nilla wafers are so expensive here in the UK. After your first video of this pudding it was such a hit a my bbq's i started making my own wafers. So much cheaper. Plenty of recipes online to make em 👍
One of my favorite desserts in the Midwest US. Especially paired with BBQ! I usually use Banana Pudding mix instead of vanilla. I prefer the punch of extra banana flavor throughout with this. Then layer the banana and Nilla wafers in individual cups.
@@WilsonsBBQ It depends on if you enjoy that artificial banana flavor. Alternatively, you could smash the banana and mix it into the cream for more banana flavor. Along with the layered banana/nilla wafers and whipped cream layers. Either way I'll have to give your method a try. Looks delicious
I made the magnolia banana pudding recipe yesterday and it’s great. In Australia Nilla Wafers are hard to find as well, I subbed lady fingers instead and I feel they worked well. Crumbled some scotch fingers on top for a bit more texture as well
That pudding looks tasty and would be great next time I make BBQ. Last time I had banana pudding it was at Goldees and they do this crumble thing on top that works well and sets it apart from traditional puddings. Also I think it would be fun for you to get video of friends/family/strangers in the UK trying new BBQ foods like this and getting their reactions.
That’s a great idea! I think the crumble on top of the goldees banana pudding is ground up nilla wafers, mixed with melted butter, laid on a baking sheet and baked in the oven.
The couple of times I've been to Texas i've stuffed too much meat to even contemplate dessert! Ordered the stuff (thanks for the links, never heard of them) so will give it a go on Sat with some ribs & steak, looks fun!
I’m sure whipping regular heavy cream will be just as good! Often, I end up collapsing the whipped cream anyway, and it ends up being a lot less stiff than it is in this video, and it still turns out great! So I think just whipping heavy cream will be great, even if it’s a little looser than mine in this video
This looks very similar to the best banana pudding recipe in history. Look up Paula Dean’s Not Yo Mama’s Banana Pudding. Made with chessmen cookies. Throw in some Cinnamon Toast Crunch sprinkle seasoning in the layers. Incredible.
I am going the easy route I do use the boxed Pudding but add extra vanilla extract sometimes I do make my homemade Vanille Pudding. I also triple the amount of Bananas I like a lot of Bananas
Well, made it over the weekend... Was reeeally good! The bananna infused better over the couple of days we had it, so next time i'll probably just start with a really/over ripe one, but yea it was delicious, thanks for posting it up!
I love seeing this become more widely appreciated! I think of it as a very modified trifle so I'd think it would well-received in trifle-loving cultures :-) I'm from the south of the US as are many of my people and I know of no one who makes a custard for this. If anything it would be a homemade cornstarch thickened "pudding" as we call it, no eggs. One thing I often do: instead of the double cream, I use cream cheese (Philadelphia type) beaten into the pudding base. It gives it a hint of tanginess which keeps the sweetness from being too bland in my opinion. Then it's layered with whipped cream as you did.
a bit stingy on the bananas for my liking, add 2-3 more bananas so you can actually find some slices on your spoon. its not suppose to be a banana treasure hunt.
I made the Magnolia recipe after it went viral and just so everyone knows it is NOT real banana pudding. Theirs is way too rich and way too sweet. It’s good but it’s just too much.
If you correctly count how many times I say the word fluffy in this video, I’ll send you a single Nilla Wafer.
How much of this do you make for one of your pop ups?
Really depends on how many I forecast. This batch will make around 9 8oz / 250ml servings

Whipped with the cream I imagine?
@@WilsonsBBQ Indeed. I've mixed bourbon into most of my whipped cream ever since 😋
@Herman_vi awesome. I’m 100% doing that next time for sure.

Boxed Jello!?!!? 😤😡 that's it, unsubscribe. no longer friends. canceling my uk trip!
Fine. Is Bones still coming? Ask him to bring me some more nilla wafers. They’re so expensive here.
He is keeping with what they make in Texas. It's a roadside fovorite not some French pastry chef concoction.
I just wasted 1:28 of my life!!! 🤮
Instant pudding?!?

I honestly always use boxed Jell-O for banana pudding. How I learned it from everyone in my family.
You’d be surprised at how many people think it’s culinary blasphemy! It’s the best!
Double or triple, want the bananas, but love this set up, and agree vanilla pudding. Good to go
I could take it either way I think!

Can you do 1/2 banana and 1/2 vanilla?? Jello pudding,m

Make sure you don’t use the INSTANT Jello pudding either, it sets up right away.
A friend just gifted me with 10 packs of the vanilla jelo so I'm definitely following this recipe
Made this twice now with you recipe. Amazing after some bbq!
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I wonder if this is how Goldees makes it. I live 10 minutes from there, and that pudding is fire.
They make theirs fresh!
i think they saute and puree bananas and mix that with vanilla custard

I know it’s someone else’s sauce recipe, but you are my source of it 😂
This recipe is begging for vanilla extract. The other products are vanilla flavoring.

The extreme fluffiness got me drooling! I’ll definitely be making this 🤙🏻
Cheers, Harry!
Definitely give this a go. To me I love the texture of the banana. 👍🏻
I can’t wait to try this. Was just thinking I want to learn to make this.
Very difficult to get double cream here in the states. Doubtful one can achieve that texture by whipping just heavy cream. Looks amazing

@scottgoodwine2938 that makes sense
Double cream is 48% while whipping cream is 35%. I doubt you would notice much of a difference.
If you were doing a pop up, how would you increase the recipe? How many people would you anticipate serving? Thanks and nice job.
made this with madeira cake recently and it blew my head off
That’s interesting! I can see how that works

One banana!?!? lol bro it’s banana pudding you need BANANAS 🍌 🍌🍌🍌🍌

How did you get rhe vanilla jello to set? Mine wont.
What pots are they you portion them up in. ? Any idea where you got them
Google ‘16oz deli cups with lids’
If you used a whisk on the vanilla pudding befo5re you add it to the whipped cream you will find it incorporates much easier.

Liking your content this last month, must be putting a lot of sessions in, you are starting to look like Malcom from how to bbq right!
Hey…I know I’ve put on a few extra inches…😂
If anyone in bbq hasn’t added timber, I would ask questions!
Nice!
Being that you like banana, why don't you try banana pudding ice cream from blue bell. It will blow your mind!!!!!
Next time I’m in the states, I’ll give it a go!
Thanks bro trying this today!!
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. Always wanted to try but recipe was always American.
Thanks!

I can’t get it fluffy! I don’t have your mixer just like a cake blender
is it possible to use Bird's Custard Powder + gelatine to substitute for Jell-O?
Banana pudding makes it even better.
Before serving you need to put fresh banana on top so it looks better and people know what it is.
So make homemade butter and make And add boxed pudding mix to the butter 🤔
