The first time I saw RTF was 78, they opened up for Santana, I never hear anything like that. I was Hypnotized, I was hooked, then witnessed something I never seen before, Al De meola came back on stage and closed the show out with Santana on his last song. Awesome 👌
Dude your blessed, I was rocking to rtf also they set the bar so high that no one has hit sense !?#&^#& look at the line up chic , Stanley Clark , AL demeola ,ect!!! The good old days? Better living through chemistry$
@@raymocopo7340 true! Santana and RTF together? What a show that must have been! I have an original Chic Corea autographed piece of sheet music framed above my piano.
The first jazz fusion band I ever heard. I was playing along to the entire album on my practice drum kit. Lenny White was a HUGE influence on my playing. RIP Chick! These guys are the greatest!
The Romantic Warrior. The Magnum Opus of the Return to Forever albums. This album literally changed my musical life back in the late 70's, and when I turned my friends on to it, it changed their's too! One of the rare albums that some 45 years later, it's still just as amazing as when I first heard it! Chick Corea and the band created a true masterpiece!
The album is magical, mystical, deeply engaging with its listener. It’s so rare that nothing has been or ever will be recorded like it ever again. Like you, for me it changed the literal meaning of music and where it could take you if you would open your mind and imagination.
You're right. The album is a cosmic masterpiece. It goes in crazy directions, exploring the unknown, but it somehow never loses the listener. Each song, each melody, and every solo tells a story. The compositions were truly great. I am of the opinion that this lineup of RTF were the tightest band of all time. The four of them were so in sync with each other, it's almost like they were one person playing all the instruments, but at the same time each of them brings such a unique identity to the music.
I didn't really "get" it when it came out. Now however, wow! I managed to find a really good copy on vinyl and I consider it one of the finest albums in both fusion and progressive rock.
Such great memories! Saw them at least 3 times, the 1st with Earl Klugh, (just after Bill Connor left, though wish I could have seen him, great player), at Soldiers and Sailors Hall in Pgh, then several times later with Al Di Meola (Stanley Theater if I recall). Everyone filled with incredible musicianship. Took several friends who were stoned hard-rockers and they were BLOWN AWAY! Became instant fans for life!
Heard/saw them at UCSD gym around this time. Eye-opening, thrilling. Seems like Flora Purim sang also. But that was a very long time ago. Will never forget Stanley Clarke's playing.
I love Lenny White. I also love Alex Acuna of Weather Report. Because both of them have THE SOUND if you know what I mean. This electric jazz - fusion sound. They are not as "metronomic" as Billy Cobham and not as "jazzy" as other great jazz drummers. They are just spot on for this sort of music if you know what I mean...
Stumbled across "Romantic Warrior" when I was looking through some guy's record collection when I was about 10 years old (cos the cover looked cool). I dubbed it to cassette and played myself to sleep with it for at least a decade. Quirky, experimental, awesome musicianship. Just found an old mint LP yesterday at a record market - pure gold.
Als guitar playing just incredible before Eddie Van Halen,we never heard playing so fast ,Al being from NJ got to meet him and went to movies with him saw Marathon Man in nyc

The name jazz-rock was invented by journalists to explain jazz that also attracts a younger rock audience. The best electro jazz band of the 70s and 80s and now and forever. Today we return to forever.❤🎉
Saw this GREAT band in Des Moines, IA in 197? Was the BEST concert I have ever been too. Think there were only about 200 of us in the crowd, and we all sat on the floor VERY close to the band. All 4 musicians are tremendous on their own, but together it was unbelievable. So blessed that I was there. Listen to the Romantic Warrior CD often. The fantastic music will never die !!!
They were doing this back in the 70s....musically ahead of their time........My friend Lee Worden turned me onto them....and Bill Laswell turned Lee onto them.....they are awesome.
Most underrated group of all decades, at Chick Corea's direction. Do yourself a favor and give this masterpiece a listen to. They never seemed to be commercially oriented toward massive FM-airplay, yet all have had successful individual careers following its latter 70's days. This is what Jazz Rock Fusion is essentially all about.
I've been trying to come up with some smart line or adage to say about these cats? It only been 45 years still stuck! Only thing I can say is I can't put into notes on a chart, I'm just now learning that it's a return to forever at 70?
Still after all these years, what a line up!!!!!!!! It took me 40 years to understand the funk jazz thing those cats were into it's like moms apple pie can't get enough?
These songs from *Romantic Warrior* are the very best things this 3rd version of Chick’s fusion band ever released. IMHO as a longtime fusion promoter.
The journey of these marvelous musicians is absolutely incredible. I was a 3 chord guitar player with a great voice. Practicing in a basement in 79' for a highschool talent show. When a friend walks in with Elegant Gypsy. I had to backtrack to RTF. To this amazing band. WTF!
Wow. I realized I have been listening to RTF for 50 years. My very first album I ever owned, which I still have, Where have I known you before. I think I own them all. The precision is still a sonic thing of beauty. Thanks for posting this. Awesome.
I actually watched this concert . it was broadcast on tuesday 16th marrch 1976 on the bbc 2 channel at about 6pm. i was mesmerised by the compositions and the virtuosity of the players. Just saw Al in Milwaukee. inspiring to say the least. He told the story about he was asked to join RTF. He's such a joy to watch and bless his history with this band. Such positivity in this live performance. I'm always amazed what was presented on TV in regards to bands during this era. Bravo.

Meno male che anche un italiano ascolta la musica con la M, il paese di Sanremo!
Nice slip into Warp Drive at 28:15.
Hahahaha. Just got there.
I was the chief music critic at my college paper at University of Vermont. The band did a small press conference which I covered. My best friend was visiting from NJ and was tripping. Yup, it was '76. He asked Stanley if the pre-show KFC fried chicken meal was to lube up his fingers for his bass playing later....
I got to see them early 1976 at Hancher Aud. in Iowa City. I also caught one of Lenny White's drumsticks.:)
Reno Faoro / wow, I'll give you 10 grand for it.......
Holy cow, what a line up.... 4 masters of all masters.
Lenny White's album Venusian Summer is one of my favorites..
Amazing simply amazing! Pioneers of jazz!
Stanley Clarke is a ninja
I'm not sure who is more ridiculous - Stanley or Al. These guys are just amazing.
Some of the greatest music ever written or played.........ever.
But I have to wonder why DiMeola decided to just wear an undershirt. C'mon man....
A true testament to the power grace and fire of RTF in all their glory loud blazing and heartfelt a moment and magical time now crystallized in our hearts forevermore

Who here saw RTF at the Calderone Theater on Long Island on 11-12-1975 when the show was delayed several hours but the band played into the wee hours?
Times and taste is/are certainly changing.
This used to be popular music in the 70's.

Chick is now a living legend. This band were incredible. Musicianship, composition beyond compare. The most beautiful progressive jazz/rock , fusion or jazz - - whatever you want to call it.
Few people achieve living legend...Chick deserves every bit of his accolades! :)
I miss Majestic dance.
Nobody's heard of? Oooookay.
@@erikbaran7197 my thought, exactly!
They are Absolutely Nailing it.. And Romantic Warrior is One of Their Very Best (Tho All Their Albums are Masterpieces) But I Think When They Recorded Romantic Warrior they Were Completely in Their Zone.. Rest in Power Chick 💖💖
Oh Chick look at you in your little sailor suit!
Awesome!
Saw this band in 1975, 1976, and 2008. Stunning every time. Met Stanley Clarke after the last show. We were marveling that we were both much younger back in 1975.
