- This is the Grand-Final match from the World Cyber Games (WCG) USA 2002 qualifier. It was a USA-only Quake3 LAN tournament, for the overall WCG 2002 Grand-Finals that was held in Korea later that year.
The event was held on Oct. 5th, 2002 in New-York City.
The players in this video are: Jason "Socrates" Sylka (USA) and Sean "Daler" Price (USA).
The game is Quake III Arena + OSP (a mod for competitive play).
The map played is PRO-Q3TOURNEY4 / Vertical Vengeance.
The tournament format is BO1 or Best Of One matches.

You can download the .pk3 file, which contains the demos from both players and shoutcasting audio files, from here:
mega.nz/file/5MAiSCgZ#fU8B3dL...
I used a program called Wolfcam to play back the demos. Grab the latest version here: github.com/brugal/wolfcamql/r...
I also used a program called ReShade (reshade.me/) to further enhance the game graphics. These are the shaders that I used with it:
AMD FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening [CAS.fx]
Monocular_Cues [Depth_Cues.fx]
LumaSharpen [LumaSharpen.fx]
MXAO [qUINT_mxao.fx]
RTGIodbalIllumination [qUINT_rtgi.fx]

Very cool. I love these old Quake 3 matches. I remember watching them live back in the day.
Thanks for all the work you do in running this great channel!
Thanks for all the work. Been following your channel science it's inception now. Keep it up!
So-crates
Didn't know djWHEAT has been involved for that fucking long, wew late 90s...
7:17 lol wheat accidentally pronouncing Socrate's name wrong by pronouncing it correctly
Thank you for this! Loved it!
While I appreciate the good job done here to preserve all these great matches, the visuals could be improved. For instance, set cg_drawgun to 1, in here is set to 2 which makes the weapon look off since it's just some static polygon in there. Im also not sure these high res texture look any better than regular Quake 3 at r_picmip 0. They look kinda odd in contrast to the polycount on these maps. Also adjust the overbrightbits because it looks a bit too bright in there. And set s_doppler to 1, which I think it is but just in case, that effect sounds great and all these modern games lack it.
Dam good old days ..too bad we got old hehe
So-crates lmao
Intentional. The player said that's how it's pronounced 🤷♂️
Socrates was one of the very best. He was somewhat in the shadow of z4 and czm who were world class, but socrates was right right up there with them. They just got most of the limelight and maybe were a tad better, but there wasn't much in it.
How do you still find old replays?
I am lucky I downloaded most of them back in the day :D
Someone found the old ESR thread :D
Yes :)) a lot of good information there
Do you have plans to upload DHW 2012 games?
Who is this so_crates?
Why is the Mega Health cooldown so hilariously long?
man i wanna play this game again, but its unavailable on steam in germany, dunno where else i can download it from
Pretty much replaced by Quake Live (available on steam) which is a slightly modernised version of Quake 3 Arena. There is still some online activity to be found though you might lose interest fairly quickly because mostly veterans and consequently skill level fairly high. That in turn usually means you'll get slaughtered as an unexperienced player which can be very discouraging. Additionally it takes a long time to catch up due to high skill curve which doesn't exactly help the inflow of new players either.
@@SpocksBro i see interesting, can u also play the single player in quake live just like in quake 3 arena?
I’m so confused, if this tourney is BO1, and zero4 beat Daler, why is Daler here in the final??
12:15 lmao
