I came here to say this - I've read this too, how he reminded them that some day they might be in a band with these people, and not doing right by each other NOW would make it harder to do well together. Creating a positive, supportive environment early on would help them all be the best they could be, and would help the members get along and take care of each other in the future. Having no grudges to get over/continue to bild on gives them a much better shot at staying together, too.
I think it was in the same video that the trainee said that RM would share music with them, broadening their musical spectrum. The group was built around RM and his writing skills, but it is his leadership skills that have benefited BTS the most, imo.
FYI: BTS was initially formed around Namjoon. When he was referred to BigHit, Bang PD decided that he liked RM so much that he wanted to create a group that RM could lead. Namjoon was serious about music even at that age and was always meant to lead the group. The seven members you see now were not always the members - there were other people that they trained and almost debuted with but the current members were honestly destined to be together, even though Jimin almost didn’t make it (which is absolutely crazy to think of). But Namjoon was never NOT going to be in BTS. As Jin put it, “Namjoon is BTS.” PS: I do not mean that the other members are not valuable - every member was meant to be there and BTS is not complete without each and every one of them. 💜

As the members said in the video being the leader you have a lot more responsibilities, and you have to be in the center representing the group. When BTS was first breaking through the Western Industry in 2017, Namjoon was accountable for six other people and the future of the group, paddling through the murky waters of the foreign and biased western industry. He was shouldering all this extra responsibility of translating and representing them internationally. In one of their most recent concerts (PTD Vegas), Namjoon said, “In 2017, We were invited to the AMA’S for the 1st time, and our staff sat me down and was like ‘Oh, now we'll have 12 TV Stations, live interviews and you know, you just do your thing.’ and I was like not ready at all.” Despite Namjoon not feeling ready he still took BTS to such a high level of success that no one will ever be able to reach that high.
Exactly, and about the correlation I think it's because they resemble these animals! From what I've noticed it's like a thing in Korean culture to say or know what animal people resemble, either in looks or personality (or both!)
Namjoon is the best leader, I rememebr the time when he was giving advice to enhyphen and someone asked him how to be a good leader and he spoke about how he was scared and he didn't know. That him even asking this question already makes him such a strong leader because hes not only thinking of himself. He also spoke about how before they debuted he ran away and his dad found him at the park and said to him that this is his passion and he would resent him forever and regret it if he didnt see it through and debut with the members. Hes such a strong role model for the next generation and even when hes currently successful hes still humble and down to earth. I love when the members talk about how hard namjoon works and how proud of him they are of, you can tell they really appreciate all he does for the group. Also joon saying that it take everyone to contribute to make it work and that he cant do everything all the time. You can really see it takes teamwork to make the dreamwork.
Could you clarify? Did RM run away because his dad wouldn't let him, or was he scared of the responsibility and his dad came and told him he'd regret it if he shirked the responsibility? I didn't understand who "he" refers to.
@@s.susanmarandi9080 well in the episode RM is talking to the trainees and he explains that 6 months before debuting he ran away and that his father persuaded him for over 2 hours at the playground to convince him to go back and that he said “you have to go back, the way I see it you belong there. You have to be there, if you give up and come back now you’ll resent me forever”. These words are said by RM and we might not know why RM ran away but we can make inferences and use context clues especially if you see their logs around that time. Joon was very worried about his abilities of being leader and was stressed constantly about the future and what it could possibly mean for the band. He was also stressed about whether the direction he was going at was what he initially planned. I think it just boils down to him being afraid and he ran away.But that moment with his father gave him a lot of clarity and he even said to the trainees that the moment specifically is seared into his mind forever. I think he took what his father to heart and realized that he owed it to himself to not give up and actually give this a chance

Jin, the oldest, says Namjoon *IS* BTS. In the trainee period he gathered everyone together and said not to compete with each other, but if you see someone struggling help them. He set the tone from before Day 1. Obviously it takes all 7 to make it real and what it is today, but the core and essence is him. And yes, I am RM-biased. I have so much respect for this man, he is truly extraordinary.

I guessed right. RM deserves so much praise. When I first got into BTS I thought he was the oldest because of how he carried himself. He's very mature. Although he doesn't feel like he's a well-rounded person because he can't cook or cut a melon or drive. He makes up for the small stuff by being a great leader, artist, and overall amazing man. He can do so much that we can't. He's a man with many hats and a person worth appreciating.
So, 15 years ago today, on December 2nd, Namjoon started making music. And today at 2pm kst, he's releasing his first solo album "INDIGO" containing 10 tracks which he quoted them as "THE 10 BLUES". it features many korean artists and a few western artists. He said this album is an archive of his 20s, that wraps up his 20s. And that its an ART, because we all know ART is TIMELESS.
He didn't become the leader because he is the first member. He has tha capability of being a leader out of all of them. His role is not just to speak English he manages a lot of things for the group behind the scenes
He became the leader because Bang PD saw his potential and realized he had the qualities to become a great leader. Being fluent in English has helped a lot, but it definitely wasn't because of it. His vision and his maturity, and all the qualities that make him a good leader are what got him the job, even though initially it was his rap skills and lyricism that Bang PD was drawn to. I'm so glad that Bang PD's vision was realized. He wanted to create a group to lead Hip Hop culture, and to relate to today's youth, someone that they can grow with. Little did he know that BTS would be leading a movement of Love an Unity, and re-shaping the music industry.
I think one great take away from this video is that RM isn't a leader who grand stands in the front or takes the spotlight for himself. He leads them from behind, silently pushing them to greater heights even though there aren't any extra benefits to doing so like Yoongi said in the video. He's taught me so much, not only about leadership, but about caring for others and growing into yourself. Jungkook and Jimin are my biases, but when I saw RM at the Las Vegas concert, my tears just started flowing. I am so thankful for him and how he's brought this beautiful community together. Remember when Namjoon started as leader, he just graduated from high school. He was just a kid who was given massive of responsibilities. Also, being the middleman had to be so hard, balancing the company & the members, plus writing and producing songs. Not many people could pull this off.

He used the tiger emoji during the early days since he likens himself to a tiger. But he also likes to use the bear emoji because that's how his parents fondly calls him. So the fandom is actually divided into Team Bear and Team Tiger when it comes to V 😁 *JK (Jungkook) 👉 bunny 🐰because he's cute and adorable as a bunny.
I think their emoji's have evolved as they have. Jin use to be or at least identified with a llama because fan's said when he eats he looks like how a llama eats. His Bt21 character, RJ, is a llama. ' Jhope, in addition to what you said has a lot of energy and is kind of hyper. I think that's why he is compaired to a squirrel, too. But he has also been identified as a horse because early on fans said he had a long face like a horse. His Bt21 character is Mang, who is a horse. Jimin has also called himself puppy/kitty because he likes both and can't choose between them, and his says both are cute like him. He's sweet like a puppy, but can be a little sassy like a cat.' Taehyung (V) I believe in the beginning was a lion because he has a high nose bridge that looks noble like a lion, and also I think his ability to hit those deep gravely tones that almost said like a roar had some influence on it, too. Jungkook, in addition to what you said, has a slight adorable over bite that makes him look like he has bunny teeth. Also he has those big brown almond shap eyes.
@@rachela3869 yeah. I think RJ is an alpaca although it looks almost the same as a llama. With Jhope, it came to a point where antis used to call him J-horse as an insult and Hobi admitted he didn't like it, so I wouldn't want to associate him with it anymore. It made me wonder why he was ok with his BT21 character as a horse then I found out Mang is actually a dancing pony and hope in Korean is "huimang". But you're right he's probably associated with a squirrel because of his pure energy. With Jimin, you're right he associates himself with a lot of cute things like puppy , calico cat and even manggaetok and mochi but I think it's the members themselves who think of him as a baby chick as shown in one video clip (Bon Voyage if I'm not mistaken) where they saw a chick and said it was Jimin. Taehyung has been a tiger since the beginning but I think it was during the Winter Bear release that armys start associating him with a bear, cause Tae also mentioned once that his parents call him teddy bear. This is why i love how Hybe (BigHit) selects their leaders for a group. They make sure that the leader will have the emotional support that he can find in his hyungs. Despite the age hierarchy in Korea, Namjoon is the leader but is not the oldest. Theres Jin and Suga. This just makes more sense since being a leader you need someone to rely on tough times. My bias since 2013 I have learned so much from him as a person because of him, I became more interested in reading, learning a new language and seeing things as he sees them. RM is really an amazing person. Big respect to his parents for raising him well. His attitude is a big factor in making the BTS we all know today. They all worked hard but being a leader is not easy but he understood his assignment. I love him so much. My ultimate wish for him is to be happy and that he finds a great woman he truly deserves.

please read this. this is the answer for ur question "how did rm became the leader" actually before bts debuted.. there was an "ORIGINAL BTS LINE-UP" which jungkook, jin, v, and jimin were not included. The original line-up includes RM, suga, jhope, supreme boi, kidoh, marvel, i11evn, kyum and iron and they were supposed to be a hiphop group but later on the ceo decided that they will debut as a kpop group so the original line up left the group cuz they thought being a kpop group isnt for them and they just want to be in a hiphop scene and RM was the only one who stayed and stood up for the team and convinved jhope and suga to stay and told them to pull through it as they were about to leave too. THATS WHEN THE CEO SAW RM AS A POTENTIAL LEADER OF THE GROUP. after that jimin, jungkook, v and jin were chosen to be in the bts. Not just that but according to what bighit saw in rm's background he has incredibly high IQ of 148 and scored in the top 1% of the nation in the university entrance examinations for language, math, foreign language and social studies. And the fluency of his english that is very benificial as a leader. These rm's characteristics and strong persona made the ceo decide that RM is the perfect to be the leader of the group. AND ALSO! I always say RM leads from the bottom up. He never puts himself first, its never about him, its always about the group first. He puts his ego aside , he even helps write the other members solo songs. He encourages them to be themselves and he always has time to help each member not just music wise. He encourages members to speak more during awards show because he believes it isn't just bout him its the whole team. Im sure he struggled especially at the beginning he was a teenager after all, plus having to leader younger members and older members was probably very difficult at first. He has done a very good job he is admired by not just the other members but the whole music industry in itself. He literally is one of the best leaders of a group I've seen.
he is a perfect leader for me and I think a lot of it is natural. I have seen many "leaders" in business, university, etc. and many couldn't reach his level though they even had professional training he is not only a middle child to the members balancing them out, he is also an ambivert, switching between introversion and extroversion adapting to the situation

Watching how everyone praises Namjoonie really just makes me cry. He's such a genuine, caring and sweet person. You don't just become the Leader of the biggest BoyGroup of our time by chance. Every day he worked hard to make it all happen. Every day he made sure the members were doing well, while worrying about himself. RM is one of my bias' wrecker. I admire him so much and he is the genious behind BTS. And he is never satisfied with his work. I've only been an army since 2017 so I wasn't around when they were just starting but a lot of "veteran ARMYs" have been saying that during BTS's debut days RM would translate hate comments in English to positive ones so the members won't lose their confidence, keeping all the hate for himself. And he was just 19 back then but already exhibiting good leadership protecting the members

I can write a 500 page essay on Namjoon but to Answer your question: He is a full package leader, At a young age,he not only led but also encouraged, taught and guided all the other 6 members, the millions of army's and Bighit as well. At a young age he had the responsibility not only to take care of his dreams but also the dreams of 6 other young boys.He always kept the members first in everything. He has always been like the spokesperson/ translator for the group n he was more than happy to be that. Whenever the members made a mistake while speaking/learning English he would correct them in the most encouraging ways. He always goes live to explain to us armies his thought process and to motivate us.He is the leader but still he will always keep the members & army's 1st. When the group would get back lash n hatred he would always try to keep the members away from it for eg: he would read the bad comments but he would translate them to positive when telling the members. When people would mock or criticize armies he would always tell them how we are the best. He keeps telling that there are many things that lack in him and the members are good at those particular tasks. But just to let you know he can rap, sing, compose, and paint. Some I'd the lyrics that he has written, it blows my mind as to how such a young person can think so deep & write such meaningful things. He has immense knowledge about art and culture and music. He has an IQ of 148 but is a clumsy giant baby who loves to go on walks, bicycle rides and he loves crabs (no not to eat. He just loves crabs 🥺) So yes I still can go on n on but that's my bias Kim Namjoon for you.
Rm is the 4th oldest Even thought he and jhope were born in the same year, jhope is still older than him by 9 months. Which makes rm the middle child of bts.
For so many years, Namjoon carried such a burden when they were in the US. I saw an interview were Jhope and JK vowed to learn English better to help remove some of that burden. Translating is exhausting. RM is amazing.
What really stands out to me is that in Korea, being older or younger than someone is so important. When you look at the guys they have an age structure, but I think you can clearly tell which of the members are older siblings and which are the younger ones in their own families. The three eldest in BTS (Jin, Yoongi and Hobi) are all the "babies" of their families, having one older sibling each. Jin: older brother Yoongi: older brother Hobi: older sister (Jung Jiwoo has her own fashion brand/fashion retail company, she's the only sibling that is a public figure and whose face we ever officially saw) Namjoon is the first in line that is the elder sibling (one younger sister). This makes him the first of the hyungs that was actually responsible for a younger sibling at home. I feel like you can clearly see that in the way he leads and guides them and in how he knows how to make everyone shine, giving them opportunities to be in the center of attention, without outshining anyone. Jimin is the eldest kid in his family too (younger brother) so his caring nature makes a lot of sense. I think Taehyung is an elder sibling as well (he's the one whose family situation we know least about and in order to keep his privacy ARMY don't poke around in his life to find out, but I think I remember him saying that he is elder to someone in his family (ARMY with more info can correct me if I'm wrong about him)) Finally Jungkook is the baby in Bangtan and in his own family (older brother, who is an artist) I feel like whether or not the Tannies are older siblings shows in the way they care about one another and how they express their affection and support towards each other. BTS was built around Namjoon, he was the first to be signed and when Band PD created the group, he had a clear vision of what BTS would be (a group centered around Joon and his incredible rapping and songwriting skills) Granted, that vision shifted to an idol group, but the course of their career musically was greatly influenced by Namjoon. The members are extremely talented, but when SUGA says thay wouldn't have made it this far without Namjoon, he's 100% correct. Namjoon became the leader of BTS not just because he's the first one to join the company, It's because of his qualities and capabilities of being a good leader. Bang PD, their CEO and producer is the one who picked and trusted him from the beginning.
armys knows that bts wouldn't exist without rm, and bts members are also aware of that. they're very vocal. always praising and appreciating namjoon not only as member but as a great leader. he's so amazing! keeping 6 members together with and not to mention that he started to lead at such a young age. namjoon is the maknae (youngest) of the hyung line (oldest) jin, yoongi and hobi is older than RM (jhope and rm has the same age but hobi is older by months)
J hope said yesterday in his award speech that 2022 was a trying and stressful year. I think they had to deal with behind the scenes politics especially with the military enlistment issue. I’m sure RM went through a lot.

Someone else already sorta mentioned this, but I just wanted to add my own input. You might remember how it was said that BTS was meant to be a hip hop group at first and later changed into an idol group. The idea of a hip hop group truly did start with RM when he got into Big Hit, but the original members for the hip hop group that came afterwards were all older than him, I believe. So rather than the leader, he was in the first group as the maknae (youngest member, like how Jungkook is for BTS). Then when it changed to an idol group, he had to go through losing most of the original members that he had gotten close with, suddenly learning how to dance (Suga had quite a few complaints with that as well lol), and getting to know the new trainees who are the BTS members we know now. Out of these new members, with regards to hierarchy, he was right in the middle of them in age (Jin and Suga were older, and J-Hope was born in the same year as RM, so they're considered the same age by Korean standards despite J-Hope being born months earlier) but had the higher seniority as a trainee because he started first. The oldest member of a group is usually made the leader of an idol group since they hold that high age hierarchy, but Namjoon's seniority as a trainee as well as his inherent leadership skills are most likely what made him the leader of the team. I'm not done watching your video so I don't know if it's included, but I remember this clip where Suga mentions that there are no benefits of being the leader, but the leader gains all the difficulties (note after watching - it showed, and Suga said "responsibilities" rather than difficulties hehe). And that's definitely true for RM. His fellow underground rappers said he was betraying hip hop and was taking the easy way to make money by becoming an idol. The general public disliked how BTS was calling themselves idols while doing legitimate hip hop (hip hop fans said they're fake, idol fans said they're not good enough to be idols). Plus, the music industry already kinda looked down on the company (Big Hit Entertainment) for multiple reasons - they were a small company and had little influence after becoming separate from one of the Big 3 companies, JYP Entertainment; the CEO, "Hitman Bang" was indeed known to make hit songs, but mainly ballads, so him entering the idol industry baffled others; Big Hit's first ever idol group was actually a girl group who ended up disbanding due to a pretty bad scandal, so people were wary of another idol group coming from that company. I digress but I hope you know what I was going for. Through all the challenges, RM had to challenge himself in order to make sure he and the team got through them well. That is something I will always admire and respect about him, and that's why I'll always say that RM is the best leader. Period.
With regards to the emojis, I think aside from the cute association to a cute animal, it was also an efficient way for translators to quickly identify the member who is speaking without having to type out an entire name. Mostly because back then, the twitter characters for typing were limited and short, also when they're live translating, they use it as a faster way to post their translation twests.
What BTS is today and the heights it has reached, behind their success is one of the most finest man I've ever seen. I respect joonie so much and he holds a special position in my heart and that position is irreplaceable. He's such a humble and charismatic person.
The other members and people that surrounds RM are the ones that know how much he go through. Especially the members. ARMY don't get to see everything. We see what they show through videos like behind-the-scenes and pick up these precious moments. But there's so much we don't see.There's so many layers to everything. There's not just a one reason that he's the leader, there are so many factors to it.
Our Joonie works so hard. It's always beautiful to see the team showering him in love and appreciation for his efforts. He's such a lovely person. It's difficult to see him doubt or downplay himself at times, but it's good that he has BTS and ARMY to remind him of how wonderful and loved he is.

Funny thing that I think people forget about namjoon is that he admits that before BTS he was lost, selfish and had no idea what path he would take. He said that being the leader of BTS gave him purpose, gave him a reason to be selfless and a reason to care about being a role model. He said that the day he met jungkook was the beginning of his dream. Think about how having a kid who chose your small company just bc of you… having baby jk who looked up to him so much from the jump… he thanked jk for seeing that he was a leader even before he did… and that jk believed in him… and he took that seriously. There’s stories like this with rm and all of them for so many reasons… but the one with JK just hits different bc he was so young and has always looked up to namjoon and seriously is his biggest fan… the synergy of their bond always gets me. Rm is such a special type of leader.. he’s so intelligent and tends to see the big picture that others just can’t piece together. His speeches are always so wise and worded with so much beauty that you want to think it has to be plagiarized lol like this one man can’t see the world this way even from such a young age. Namjoon was born to lead this group and be the voice of his generation. I love how when it comes to stuff off stage… he tends to be the most chaotic and can be a little irresponsible which you’ll see when you get further into BTS and why that is.. but he’s always recognizes jhope as the off stage leader of the group… and I think hobi stepping up to do this really gives namjoon a little bit of freedom to just be his clumsy god of destruction self lol each person plays their role and it’s really what makes BTS… BTS. He has no ego about being the leader and always needing to be right or never acts like he has to make all the decisions on and off stage … this group is a cohesive unit that exists together and succeeds together, struggles together. It’s always been so important to them to be the group first. But the type of leader that namjoon is…. Is the main reason that this system works… he’s hard working, smart, fair, kind, compassionate , supportive and leads by example as much As he does with his words. The entire group looks up to him and always brag about him and they’re so proud of everything he is and everything he does… and army definitely does the same… I don’t think could have gotten as far as they have without his leadership. Of course everyone has their role and they wouldn’t be the same without everyone… but the leader…just a make it or break it responsibility … I’m so proud of him and so excited for his masterpiece !!!!! back in 2015, BTS came to my country for a Korean wave concert as a head liner group. I wasn't an army yet at that time, but I acknowledged he has the best leadership among all other groups. He himself hosted as MC during their performance and lead the show while other groups did require an MC for staff like introduction and interacting with the audience.

He was a 19-year-old leader and had to deal with trying to show respect to 3 older members, reeling in the rambunctious 3 younger members, the company’s demands, staff problems, hate from media and other fanbases, song writing at a ferocious pace, their rising fame, and leading most of the interviews. It’s a lot for a young kid. All this while dealing with his own conflict about being a rapper in an idol group. I respect this man so much!
Since Joon and Hobi are born in the same year he doesn't have to show the same respect as he does to Jin and Yoongi. They call them "same-age friends" in Korea since they are considered to be same age regardless of birth month.

A former trainee who trained with them before debut recalled how RM used to encourage everyone to keep going and to keep helping each other to make it through the training. He was impressed because in most kpop training camps people see each other as competitors while there was RM trying to help everyone succeed.
Yes! I came here to say this - I've read this too, how he reminded them that some day they might be in a band with these people, and not doing right by each other NOW would make it harder to do well together. Creating a positive, supportive environment early on would help them all be the best they could be, and would help the members get along and take care of each other in the future.
Having no grudges to get over/continue to bild on gives them a much better shot at staying together, too.
I think it was in the same video that the trainee said that RM would share music with them, broadening their musical spectrum. The group was built around RM and his writing skills, but it is his leadership skills that have benefited BTS the most, imo.

FYI: BTS was initially formed around Namjoon. When he was referred to BigHit, Bang PD decided that he liked RM so much that he wanted to create a group that RM could lead. Namjoon was serious about music even at that age and was always meant to lead the group.
The seven members you see now were not always the members - there were other people that they trained and almost debuted with but the current members were honestly destined to be together, even though Jimin almost didn’t make it (which is absolutely crazy to think of). But Namjoon was never NOT going to be in BTS.
As Jin put it, “Namjoon is BTS.”
PS: I do not mean that the other members are not valuable - every member was meant to be there and BTS is not complete without each and every one of them. 💜

As the members said in the video being the leader you have a lot more responsibilities, and you have to be in the center representing the group. When BTS was first breaking through the Western Industry in 2017, Namjoon was accountable for six other people and the future of the group, paddling through the murky waters of the foreign and biased western industry. He was shouldering all this extra responsibility of translating and representing them internationally. In one of their most recent concerts (PTD Vegas), Namjoon said, “In 2017, We were invited to the AMA’S for the 1st time, and our staff sat me down and was like ‘Oh, now we'll have 12 TV Stations, live interviews and you know, you just do your thing.’ and I was like not ready at all.” Despite Namjoon not feeling ready he still took BTS to such a high level of success that no one will ever be able to reach that high.

Namjoon is the best leader, I rememebr the time when he was giving advice to enhyphen and someone asked him how to be a good leader and he spoke about how he was scared and he didn't know. That him even asking this question already makes him such a strong leader because hes not only thinking of himself. He also spoke about how before they debuted he ran away and his dad found him at the park and said to him that this is his passion and he would resent him forever and regret it if he didnt see it through and debut with the members. Hes such a strong role model for the next generation and even when hes currently successful hes still humble and down to earth. I love when the members talk about how hard namjoon works and how proud of him they are of, you can tell they really appreciate all he does for the group. Also joon saying that it take everyone to contribute to make it work and that he cant do everything all the time. You can really see it takes teamwork to make the dreamwork.

Could you clarify? Did RM run away because his dad wouldn't let him, or was he scared of the responsibility and his dad came and told him he'd regret it if he shirked the responsibility? I didn't understand who "he" refers to.
@@s.susanmarandi9080 well in the episode RM is talking to the trainees and he explains that 6 months before debuting he ran away and that his father persuaded him for over 2 hours at the playground to convince him to go back and that he said “you have to go back, the way I see it you belong there. You have to be there, if you give up and come back now you’ll resent me forever”. These words are said by RM and we might not know why RM ran away but we can make inferences and use context clues especially if you see their logs around that time. Joon was very worried about his abilities of being leader and was stressed constantly about the future and what it could possibly mean for the band. He was also stressed about whether the direction he was going at was what he initially planned. I think it just boils down to him being afraid and he ran away.But that moment with his father gave him a lot of clarity and he even said to the trainees that the moment specifically is seared into his mind forever. I think he took what his father to heart and realized that he owed it to himself to not give up and actually give this a chance

Jin, the oldest, says Namjoon *IS* BTS. In the trainee period he gathered everyone together and said not to compete with each other, but if you see someone struggling help them. He set the tone from before Day 1. Obviously it takes all 7 to make it real and what it is today, but the core and essence is him. And yes, I am RM-biased. I have so much respect for this man, he is truly extraordinary.

I guessed right. RM deserves so much praise. When I first got into BTS I thought he was the oldest because of how he carried himself. He's very mature. Although he doesn't feel like he's a well-rounded person because he can't cook or cut a melon or drive. He makes up for the small stuff by being a great leader, artist, and overall amazing man. He can do so much that we can't. He's a man with many hats and a person worth appreciating.
So, 15 years ago today, on December 2nd, Namjoon started making music. And today at 2pm kst, he's releasing his first solo album "INDIGO" containing 10 tracks which he quoted them as "THE 10 BLUES". it features many korean artists and a few western artists. He said this album is an archive of his 20s, that wraps up his 20s. And that its an ART, because we all know ART is TIMELESS.
He didn't become the leader because he is the first member. He has tha capability of being a leader out of all of them. His role is not just to speak English he manages a lot of things for the group behind the scenes
He became the leader because Bang PD saw his potential and realized he had the qualities to become a great leader. Being fluent in English has helped a lot, but it definitely wasn't because of it. His vision and his maturity, and all the qualities that make him a good leader are what got him the job, even though initially it was his rap skills and lyricism that Bang PD was drawn to. I'm so glad that Bang PD's vision was realized. He wanted to create a group to lead Hip Hop culture, and to relate to today's youth, someone that they can grow with. Little did he know that BTS would be leading a movement of Love an Unity, and re-shaping the music industry.
I agree with you but I also do agree it helped that he was the first member and the team was formed around him.
I think one great take away from this video is that RM isn't a leader who grand stands in the front or takes the spotlight for himself. He leads them from behind, silently pushing them to greater heights even though there aren't any extra benefits to doing so like Yoongi said in the video. He's taught me so much, not only about leadership, but about caring for others and growing into yourself. Jungkook and Jimin are my biases, but when I saw RM at the Las Vegas concert, my tears just started flowing. I am so thankful for him and how he's brought this beautiful community together. Remember when Namjoon started as leader, he just graduated from high school. He was just a kid who was given massive of responsibilities. Also, being the middleman had to be so hard, balancing the company & the members, plus writing and producing songs. Not many people could pull this off.

But you're right he's probably associated with a squirrel because of his pure energy.
With Jimin, you're right he associates himself with a lot of cute things like puppy , calico cat and even manggaetok and mochi but I think it's the members themselves who think of him as a baby chick as shown in one video clip (Bon Voyage if I'm not mistaken) where they saw a chick and said it was Jimin.
Taehyung has been a tiger since the beginning but I think it was during the Winter Bear release that armys start associating him with a bear, cause Tae also mentioned once that his parents call him teddy bear.

This is why i love how Hybe (BigHit) selects their leaders for a group. They make sure that the leader will have the emotional support that he can find in his hyungs. Despite the age hierarchy in Korea, Namjoon is the leader but is not the oldest. Theres Jin and Suga. This just makes more sense since being a leader you need someone to rely on tough times. actually before bts debuted.. there was an "ORIGINAL BTS LINE-UP" which jungkook, jin, v, and jimin were not included. The original line-up includes RM, suga, jhope, supreme boi, kidoh, marvel, i11evn, kyum and iron and they were supposed to be a hiphop group but later on the ceo decided that they will debut as a kpop group so the original line up left the group cuz they thought being a kpop group isnt for them and they just want to be in a hiphop scene and RM was the only one who stayed and stood up for the team and convinved jhope and suga to stay and told them to pull through it as they were about to leave too. THATS WHEN THE CEO SAW RM AS A POTENTIAL LEADER OF THE GROUP. after that jimin, jungkook, v and jin were chosen to be in the bts.
Not just that but according to what bighit saw in rm's background he has incredibly high IQ of 148 and scored in the top 1% of the nation in the university entrance examinations for language, math, foreign language and social studies. And the fluency of his english that is very benificial as a leader.
These rm's characteristics and strong persona made the ceo decide that RM is the perfect to be the leader of the group.

I always say RM leads from the bottom up. He never puts himself first, its never about him, its always about the group first. He puts his ego aside , he even helps write the other members solo songs. He encourages them to be themselves and he always has time to help each member not just music wise. He encourages members to speak more during awards show because he believes it isn't just bout him its the whole team. Im sure he struggled especially at the beginning he was a teenager after all, plus having to leader younger members and older members was probably very difficult at first. He has done a very good job he is admired by not just the other members but the whole music industry in itself. He literally is one of the best leaders of a group I've seen.

I've only been an army since 2017 so I wasn't around when they were just starting but a lot of "veteran ARMYs" have been saying that during BTS's debut days RM would translate hate comments in English to positive ones so the members won't lose their confidence, keeping all the hate for himself. And he was just 19 back then but already exhibiting good leadership protecting the members

I can write a 500 page essay on Namjoon but to Answer your question: He is a full package leader, At a young age,he not only led but also encouraged, taught and guided all the other 6 members, the millions of army's and Bighit as well. At a young age he had the responsibility not only to take care of his dreams but also the dreams of 6 other young boys.He always kept the members first in everything. He has always been like the spokesperson/ translator for the group n he was more than happy to be that. Whenever the members made a mistake while speaking/learning English he would correct them in the most encouraging ways. He always goes live to explain to us armies his thought process and to motivate us.He is the leader but still he will always keep the members & army's 1st. When the group would get back lash n hatred he would always try to keep the members away from it for eg: he would read the bad comments but he would translate them to positive when telling the members. When people would mock or criticize armies he would always tell them how we are the best.
He keeps telling that there are many things that lack in him and the members are good at those particular tasks.
But just to let you know he can rap, sing, compose, and paint. Some I'd the lyrics that he has written, it blows my mind as to how such a young person can think so deep & write such meaningful things. He has immense knowledge about art and culture and music. He has an IQ of 148 but is a clumsy giant baby who loves to go on walks, bicycle rides and he loves crabs (no not to eat. He just loves crabs 🥺)

For so many years, Namjoon carried such a burden when they were in the US. I saw an interview were Jhope and JK vowed to learn English better to help remove some of that burden. Translating is exhausting. RM is amazing.
What really stands out to me is that in Korea, being older or younger than someone is so important. When you look at the guys they have an age structure, but I think you can clearly tell which of the members are older siblings and which are the younger ones in their own families.
The three eldest in BTS (Jin, Yoongi and Hobi) are all the "babies" of their families, having one older sibling each.
Jin: older brother
Yoongi: older brother
Hobi: older sister (Jung Jiwoo has her own fashion brand/fashion retail company, she's the only sibling that is a public figure and whose face we ever officially saw)
Namjoon is the first in line that is the elder sibling (one younger sister). This makes him the first of the hyungs that was actually responsible for a younger sibling at home. I feel like you can clearly see that in the way he leads and guides them and in how he knows how to make everyone shine, giving them opportunities to be in the center of attention, without outshining anyone.
Jimin is the eldest kid in his family too (younger brother) so his caring nature makes a lot of sense. I think Taehyung is an elder sibling as well (he's the one whose family situation we know least about and in order to keep his privacy ARMY don't poke around in his life to find out, but I think I remember him saying that he is elder to someone in his family (ARMY with more info can correct me if I'm wrong about him)) Finally Jungkook is the baby in Bangtan and in his own family (older brother, who is an artist)
I feel like whether or not the Tannies are older siblings shows in the way they care about one another and how they express their affection and support towards each other. BTS was built around Namjoon, he was the first to be signed and when Band PD created the group, he had a clear vision of what BTS would be (a group centered around Joon and his incredible rapping and songwriting skills) Granted, that vision shifted to an idol group, but the course of their career musically was greatly influenced by Namjoon. The members are extremely talented, but when SUGA says thay wouldn't have made it this far without Namjoon, he's 100% correct.

Someone else already sorta mentioned this, but I just wanted to add my own input.
You might remember how it was said that BTS was meant to be a hip hop group at first and later changed into an idol group. The idea of a hip hop group truly did start with RM when he got into Big Hit, but the original members for the hip hop group that came afterwards were all older than him, I believe. So rather than the leader, he was in the first group as the maknae (youngest member, like how Jungkook is for BTS). Then when it changed to an idol group, he had to go through losing most of the original members that he had gotten close with, suddenly learning how to dance (Suga had quite a few complaints with that as well lol), and getting to know the new trainees who are the BTS members we know now. Out of these new members, with regards to hierarchy, he was right in the middle of them in age (Jin and Suga were older, and J-Hope was born in the same year as RM, so they're considered the same age by Korean standards despite J-Hope being born months earlier) but had the higher seniority as a trainee because he started first. The oldest member of a group is usually made the leader of an idol group since they hold that high age hierarchy, but Namjoon's seniority as a trainee as well as his inherent leadership skills are most likely what made him the leader of the team.
I'm not done watching your video so I don't know if it's included, but I remember this clip where Suga mentions that there are no benefits of being the leader, but the leader gains all the difficulties (note after watching - it showed, and Suga said "responsibilities" rather than difficulties hehe). And that's definitely true for RM. His fellow underground rappers said he was betraying hip hop and was taking the easy way to make money by becoming an idol. The general public disliked how BTS was calling themselves idols while doing legitimate hip hop (hip hop fans said they're fake, idol fans said they're not good enough to be idols). Plus, the music industry already kinda looked down on the company (Big Hit Entertainment) for multiple reasons - they were a small company and had little influence after becoming separate from one of the Big 3 companies, JYP Entertainment; the CEO, "Hitman Bang" was indeed known to make hit songs, but mainly ballads, so him entering the idol industry baffled others; Big Hit's first ever idol group was actually a girl group who ended up disbanding due to a pretty bad scandal, so people were wary of another idol group coming from that company.
I digress but I hope you know what I was going for. Through all the challenges, RM had to challenge himself in order to make sure he and the team got through them well. That is something I will always admire and respect about him, and that's why I'll always say that RM is the best leader. Period.

With regards to the emojis, I think aside from the cute association to a cute animal, it was also an efficient way for translators to quickly identify the member who is speaking without having to type out an entire name. Mostly because back then, the twitter characters for typing were limited and short, also when they're live translating, they use it as a faster way to post their translation twests.

We see what they show through videos like behind-the-scenes and pick up these precious moments. But there's so much we don't see.There's so many layers to everything. Funny thing that I think people forget about namjoon is that he admits that before BTS he was lost, selfish and had no idea what path he would take. He said that being the leader of BTS gave him purpose, gave him a reason to be selfless and a reason to care about being a role model. He said that the day he met jungkook was the beginning of his dream. Think about how having a kid who chose your small company just bc of you… having baby jk who looked up to him so much from the jump… he thanked jk for seeing that he was a leader even before he did… and that jk believed in him… and he took that seriously. There’s stories like this with rm and all of them for so many reasons… but the one with JK just hits different bc he was so young and has always looked up to namjoon and seriously is his biggest fan… the synergy of their bond always gets me. Rm is such a special type of leader.. he’s so intelligent and tends to see the big picture that others just can’t piece together. His speeches are always so wise and worded with so much beauty that you want to think it has to be plagiarized lol like this one man can’t see the world this way even from such a young age. Namjoon was born to lead this group and be the voice of his generation. I love how when it comes to stuff off stage… he tends to be the most chaotic and can be a little irresponsible which you’ll see when you get further into BTS and why that is.. but he’s always recognizes jhope as the off stage leader of the group… and I think hobi stepping up to do this really gives namjoon a little bit of freedom to just be his clumsy god of destruction self lol each person plays their role and it’s really what makes BTS… BTS. He has no ego about being the leader and always needing to be right or never acts like he has to make all the decisions on and off stage … this group is a cohesive unit that exists together and succeeds together, struggles together. It’s always been so important to them to be the group first. But the type of leader that namjoon is…. Is the main reason that this system works… he’s hard working, smart, fair, kind, compassionate , supportive and leads by example as much

back in 2015, BTS came to my country for a Korean wave concert as a head liner group. I wasn't an army yet at that time, but I acknowledged he has the best leadership among all other groups. He himself hosted as MC during their performance and lead the show while other groups did require an MC for staff like introduction and interacting with the audience.

I just love RM..he's so talented, smart and the lyrics to the songs he writes are like poetry. I can only say positive things about him. I love how he protects the other members (especially my bias V). In the beginning he used to say his job was to protect V. That warms my heart. He really is the best leader.
