    i wish my daddy was still alive to watch this with me , all he ever did for a living was drive big rigs, heavy machinery, and dump trucks and fuel trucks..if he was here , he would point out so many things about these magnificent vehicles and tell me all about them , as he was a very knowledgeable man. he was born in 1929 , so he has seen most of vehicles like these.

    i love how they preserve these vehicles of the past, but back then their milage rate is very low so some restoration channels find these vehicles hid in forests or locked away in garages because the previous owner of the vehicle couldn't repair it, these days most antique cars have modified modern engines since the old engines cannot replaced, so the body is what is preserved because they were made of pure steel, while our modern car bodies are made of plastic. great video! :)

    Love the old Air Conditioner on one of the last pickup trucks.. have not seen one of those in many a year.. Not really an air conditioner as much as a compressor that then pushes a solid air flow into the trucks cab when moving at speed.

      Actully, it's a swamp cooler add-on that you could mount in the window of just about any car or truck at the time. Load the thing with ice and water, get to about 30mph, and pull the starter cord to get the little turbine spinning. Voila'! Cold wet air in your vehicle. Great for dry climates.

    Good lord what memories,, I must first say the best units I saw had to have been all of the Dalton Trucking vehicles , Very nice, very original . I started as a wash boy at a trucking company when I was just a kid but I knew every inch of a lot of different tractors. The owner of the company was a bit of a collector as well as nostalgic .
    He took the oldest units of the companie and restored them like new, A 1966 COE White Freightliner with a straight 318 detroit diesel, A White 4000 day cab and the year was about 69 I think. The white still have the "velvet ride suspension " which I can tell you was far from velvet as you could get and a 180 Hp or 220 Hp cummins w/ compression release.
    A Diamond Reo tandem axle dump truck about 1950ish. A international R190 dump truck w/ the rd450 engine and splitter rear axle,, I haul tons of gravel with both those trucks in the earlier 1990s putting new base/ gravel into the lot of the compaine. A 49 pick up and 40 pick up . Still more but those were the major units.
    Thanks for the video, Great seeing so many of the tractors I remember so well.

    That GM Futureliner replica-flatbed was awesome! :D

    • @nickelvan
      @nickelvan 6 лет назад +1

      I believe that is not a replica, I found this info on wikipedia, Displayed the “World of Science” exhibit; also displayed the “Versatile Metal Powder” exhibit. Purchased by Brad Boyajian in 2002, Boyajian said he believes that the Futurliner that he converted into a car hauler is No. 5. That Futurliner’s rear axle and body section went with Futurliner No. 8 to Sweden, and its front axle went to the NATMUS Futurliner No. 10 restoration project.

    • @AIRDRAC
      @AIRDRAC 6 лет назад +2

      Nickel Vanner the futureliner has the engine in the rear, and has dually wheels both front and rear, so I'm pretty sure it's just made to look like it :)

    • @nickelvan
      @nickelvan 6 лет назад +2

      I caught that too but it noted that he sold the front and rear axles along with the rear body section, so it would be on a modified frame. I have a close friend in Iowa that just bought Bus #3, the one that Kindig-It restored in 2014. He is hoping to bring it to Goodguys in Des Moines IA this month. He knows a lot of history on these, I will ask him about it.

    • @twinrodders
      @twinrodders  6 лет назад +3

      Nickel Vanner Yes the Futurliner in the video belongs to Brad Boyajian, it is Futurliner #5

    I liked the 1979 GMC Fire truck and the 1941 GM Futurliner.The GM's front is like a train engine.There are 4 tires on the front axle. Forward of the right front tires is a door for the stairs to the cab. Driver and two passengers.The left door is the engine. Used in the Parade of Progress 1936,1939 and 1953. maybe 1954.1940 Autocar is more like a shortbed crew cab pickup.

    There's a few things in here I've worked on. The electric truck wagon thing (that's my cousin driving) I believe was used to move huge rolls of paper for a newspaper company. The Futureliner (they called it the Junkliner) is set on a garbage truck chassis but it was a real Futureliner. It sold a while ago. By far the best thing in here I've worked on is Dennis Wells' 1970 289 at 26:31. It has a 400 big cam and a 13 speed, we used it to haul my '52 GMC fire engine home last year.

    Is that a Curtis Publishing Company electric truck, riding on the Futureliner, and toting an electric golf cart? The publishing company was in Philadelphia; Saturday Evening Post and all that. They were still running some of these electric vehicles when I grew up in Philly in the Fifties. As I recall; long time ago. The driver was way up there, and could really see the traffic. No Cab!! And Philly gets COLD. At least I think that's what that thing is. Good shot of it around the two minute mark; and then later at the twenty or so minute mark it loads itself on the bed of the Futureliner

    Вот что значит не было войны как СССР и Германии, В СССР каждый грамм метала был на учёте для победы в ВОВ, Америке повезло столько золота из СССР вытянула. Вот и нет в самой большой стране механики прошлого. А вообще молодцы американцы .

    6:43 I don't see many of those cabover semi trucks out on the roads anymore like I used to back in the day.

      They stopped building them for some time, they are being built again but these young drivers aren't really fans of them...back when I drove a Pete cabover lot of drivers referred to them as " coffins on wheels" as there's nothing between you and what's out there.

      +Ahomestead FranklinNC I imagine during the summertime it would get all hot in that thing since you had all the engine heat coming up underneath the floorboard which makes the a/c work harder.

      @@kevinrichards3288 : understatement....I actually put ice on my so called mattress and threw towels over it to help cool down at night.
      And you'd think you'd be nice and toasty in the winter...just the opposite...the ol school way before canvas screens was to cut cardboard to help it regulate heat better.

      @@scottm.franklinnc7942 thats no lie. Hope you did not have spring suspension on the old concrete roads either. Between tires and springs you needed to keep spares at all times. Rough riding. Air ride saved the day!

    Love your film! Great footage! I always love going to that show every year. I have a suggestion though, there is a truck show they have in Irwindale every year it’s called trucking for kids. No body ever makes full videos of that show. Would be nice if someone would. Nice content.

      I've known about TFK for about 5 years, I used to go to other shows on the same day, but recently I've been meaning to check it out but keep forgetting about it! Even worse is that I live really close to Irwindale Speedway, so the drive there is no problem. I'll try and remember to check it out this year.
