  • This weekend, me and Jimmy (JohnDeere318Guy) took a trip to the 2017 Antique Truck Club of America (ATCA) national truck meet held in Macungie, PA, not far from the Mack Trucks manufacturing plant. We spent a few hours walking around and checking out the hundreds of restored classic semi trucks, dump trucks, fire engines, medium duty trucks, and pickup trucks that had shown up from all over the country.
    This video shows various trucks pulling out of the park and rolling coal as they head home. It was great to see and hear so many awesome trucks at this event. I'd like to own one someday and I would like to start attending these truck shows more frequently.

      If anyone ever goes to Canada, by my house near Owen sound, On, there is an old mack truck on a 50 or 60 ft pipe. It's pretty cool. I wouldn't make a special trip, but it's on the south side of mennonite corners. At Christmas santa leaves his sleigh up there

    You know you're getting old when you were a teenager when half of these trucks were new models lol . Brings back good memories. I sure miss the 70s, 80s and early 90s.

    Great to see this old rigs running and driving and not stuck in some museum someplace. A lot of this stuff such as the old Macks was still in daily use when I started driving trucks in 1977. LOVE the sounds of the 671 and 871 Detroit diesels. Music to my ears.

    In the late 70’s i rebuilt a 67’ Pete with a little 250 Cummins. Me and a buddy took it to Central Texas and hauled base material for oil rigs. We made a lot of money with that old truck until the boom went bust. I sure miss that old truck but we had to sell and moved back to Tennessee. But boy hiddee we had a time. My daughter grew up around old trucks and she still appreciates them.

    • @pohldriver

      At 36 most don't seem that old, except those with the solid rubber tires. There were a bunch of B model Macks running around when I was a kid and the first commercial trucks I drove at 16 as part of my job were 68 an 69 IH 7 ton straight trucks at Farr Nursery and Landscape. They were 30 years old at that point.
      Only have had 2 engines fail in 20 years of driving commercial trucks. The 69 IH with about 500,000 miles, broke a valve spring, which was irreplaceable. And the turbo failed in a 2016 Navistar Maxxforce with only 250,000 miles on it, ran away, and snapped a rod....in the middle of nowhere Missouri...At night...in February.

    making me feel my age a little there, I've driven some of these same old trucks and remember when a lot of them were very prevalent on the road. some are making a big comeback with the DOT forcing us into elogs, I believe'99 and older won't be bothered due to lack computerized garbage. great video thanks

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  7 лет назад +1

      Nice to hear from someone who knows these old rigs. I wish I could have grown up back when these things were still on the road. Oldest truck I've rode in was a '92 Peterbilt with a mechanical 425 CAT in it. I've been around a lot of the newer KW's and Pete's with the emissions stuff on them and they have caused a lot of trouble for owners and drivers. I'd like to buy an old truck one day just to haul tractors around with, and it definitely won't be newer than 1999.

      I drove an old B model Mack with a 5&4 in it for a while hauling containers in and around Houston,I must say there is no love lost for that good looking ol girl,if you ran over a dime you felt it.

    • @MichaelTJD60
      @MichaelTJD60  7 лет назад

      Haha, yeah I've heard those old Macks were not the most comfortable trucks to ride in. I've sat in a few R-models and I can tell why that's the case...those cabs are tight. I've got a video of an R-model up on my channel if you haven't seen it.

    the gmcs at 725 remind me of our old lowbed/trailer dump horse my uncle ran for 25 years after he bought it with a million miles. Put on 1200/24s and a wet system and instant cash cow, no power steering/ maxis former cocacola terminal truck built to go down the highway from 1 terminal to the next it had a snub nose and an old cable 13 speed and a 210 horse Detroit, big white steering wheel , with a td25 on the back or 30 yards of gravel, it would take 2 miles to get up into 12th from a stop. lol I respect these old rigs because they were the bread winners for guys for many years, the only thing as tough as those old trucks were the men that drove them. I cant tell you how many tires I broke down and patched the tubes after being at work for 12 hours but back then if you wanted to survive that was a big part of the job.

    Old trucks sound so good, I hate emissions so much. Killed a beautiful industry/hobby.

    Shit is Fascinating ! When vehicles and machinery buildings etc. where Intimidating and downright scary !
    A great Era of Innovation before things inevitably become more “domesticated” and “eco friendly”
    Like this was when things were More “Showing” and Rugged, Now technology is more Concealed and smooth and Friendly Looking even with Big though jobs !
