It seems to have more power than it used to. Should be able to outrun even the fastest of vehicles(as long as I catch them parked). Gotta go through my old tires and find some that will work.
Great project overall Luke! You'll have that truck running up and down the roads like a champ. Is the choke working well on that carb? What do you think about installing a manual choke?
I'm thinking of going with a manual choke for more control. I'm missing that little rod that leads from the automatic choke to the choke valve anyway. Wish I had more time to work on it, it would have been driving by now lol.
@I usually wash out my fuel tanks with some Dawn dish soap and hot water which really does wonders. The propane turkey cookers with the large pots are a great method to heat up the water to flush the tank with. I know what you mean regarding the transmission situation. It would be a good time to do a transmission service because the truck had sat idle if you hadn’t already done so. The engine sounded really good from what I heard on your video. As a result of your last video, I ordered one of the endoscopes from Amazon. So far I haven’t had the chance to use it on anything yet.
I always have good luck leaving the tank pump w a fuel pressure regulator cuz the original pressure is not super high about 16 psi give or take so a drop of nine psi or so is easy peasy and works really well use one w the return and not deadhead the system and yeah works absolutely flawlessly now one other area that peaked my interest is the distributor that one is not going to advance properly not having the fuel injection to gather info from and best bet is just to swap in a good ole hei witj mechanical advance sprigs etc curve it ro your liking and send her would be my thoughts on the whole swaperoo ive done well more than five for myself and others and when i saw she had a 700 r4 in lieu of the 4l60e well shifting aint no problem w the ole 700 baby nope she will just shift like she always did now a newer one w the electronic trans reqires a signal from a throttle position sensor but yeah wait the old carburtater aint come w. One of them famcy gadjets but some holley carbs have provisions for one i did v8 four barrel swaps and not the mighty 4.3 which is a great motor btw and i loathed having to order a holley carb oh it made me cringe i hate holley carbs so id set it on there get it running and tell the customer its your baby ro fool with and make run right w jetting and shit not this guy a couple of them had the good ole 700 trans amd in those cases my old go to the quadrajet went on them and always worrked flawlessly making great power as well as giving great mileage if not flooring it of course lol small primaries give that and great small movement throttle response hands down the best all around made to last carb ever made gm used them on everything and for good reason.. Edelbrock is a decent one simple for sure and easy to tune but you can keep them holleys jet charging gets fuel all over the intake manifold and power valves yeah oh yeah they have ro be different too if the cam doesn't make much vacuum yeah never had no issues wit the good ole q jet nooe none of this nonsense and wait the caviat what you gotta buy the right cfm Holley for ea different motor depending on what's its requirements are wtf again a. Big bunch of nope with the q jet two sizes 750 and 800 the 800 is for big blocks needing a lot of air or 455 olds and Pontiac stuff ive seen many a Pontiac motor pull those secondairy doors wide open at full throttle on a 800 cfm one and boy the moan is just loud lets say that that sound is second to none and if i do say quite pleasurable lmao dam motor heads night yall
The fuel pump is out on this truck so for now I'll just put the one I have back in there. Using the original fuel pump would be better in case It ever needs to go back to TBI. I guess if we ever do decide to go back to it we will just need to drop the tank. I may try to get a HEI distributor if it doesn't advance properly. I was going to try to use the TPS mounted to a bracket with linkage to actuate it, but not sure if that is practical. Really wish this had a manual transmission instead of the automatic.
@lukeFugate well yeah everyone would rather drive a stick of course but of the possible auto trans possibilities you got the one that needs nothing to work it's a four speed turbo 350 basically but hey a big thing I forgot be sure to have that tv cable adjusted properly or that trans will live a short life like around the block short if way out of adjustment so very important
@lukeFugate even on my own trucks I just took the grinder and cut a hole in the bed accessing the. Fuel pump assembly as often as they either the fuel gauge quits or the pump a hole w an access panel and a half dozen screws is the cats meow fifteen minutes back on the road again w out laying on the ground and wrestling w the tank and If I remember right the driveshaft has to come out as well yeah too much like work lol
@GlennManchester Thanks. Yeah, the TV cable is a little bit tight, so I'll have to adjust it. From my understanding, it is better to be too tight than too loose. Is that correct? Not sure if the swing of the cable is going to be exactly the same as the throttle body.
@lukeFugate it's against federal law in every state. I have a 1989 f250 I would love to put a carb on, but I don't want the truck confiscated and a fine for me. I may never get caught, but I can't run that risk. I think it's particularly crappy because we can import foreign cars that don't meet emissions standards, but we can't modify our cars emissions controls. Fuel injection is considered emissions related. It's a ripoff redistribution of wealth scheme to make cars throw away items and force us to spend more money. They even hope to force us into electric cars. I don't want to go electric until we have a better battery.
@johnpapa8681 very true. We have given our freedoms away a little at a time. I think part of the reason they want electric internet connected cars is so they have more control over us. The future is kind of scary.
@@lukeFugate when we actually had an inspection yearly here it was short lived btw but it included a tail pipe sniffer of course well I cannot begin to tell you how many well failed and they had carbs on them so bring it to me retard the timing so it barely idles turn the idle mixture screws in to lean it to death and run her back thru passed w flying colors every time even old wore out best half to death burning oil no problem so this being said i am confident I could get that truck thru it as well the older the car the less stringent the rest is for hydrocarbons etc and as long as you don't totally remove the cat they have to see at least the outside shell thru the mirror they stick under it the dam. Thing can be empty again I got it idling so lean it runs like total crap get thru it run it back I run all adjustments back to a happier place and a happier time and say ok bro see you next year for fifty bucks in lieu of possible hundreds or thousands even to get it thru emissions it was considered a bargain the best they ever had I call that a bargain
It’s like a boat motor. Love the simplicity. Great video.
Thanks 👍
Well done Luke 👍🏻
Thanks 👍
Good job cuz....need to do the same thing to my 95 .....thanks buddy!
I always enjoy your content.
I appreciate that!
Well done! And maybe with that carb, you now have a hot rod truck ... a tap of the accelerator and past a cybertruck you'll fly!

You may be able to regulated that tbi fuel pump down to the right pressure for a carb.
I may check on that. If I can get a regulator with a return circuit I could even use the original fuel line set.
@@johnmiley458 absolutely yes and it is the easiest solution as possible for a small investment for the regulator and yes return system is a must
Hey Luke, That engine sounds really good. Hope that your fuel tank isn’t very varnished up inside.
I hope it is ok. It is a plastic tank as far as I remember. Yeah, I think that engine still has plenty of life left. Hope the transmission is as good.

5:48 I think you have some vacuumed leaks and that will stop the idle
Thanks, you may be right. I could try the old carb cleaner trick to find them.

I wanna see it drive, TBI is great but it’s getting hard to find good parts for them.
Me too, shouldn't be long. I have a long weekend coming up!
You won't have any timing advance without the throttle position sensor
That's what I was thinking. Should be easy to hook up.
Shoot it sounds great!! Looks like we need to put carbs back on everything haha
It does, surprised me that I didn't have to adjust the mixture or anything.
Not legal.
Probably not in some states. Would have to check the laws. I would say it would fail strict emissions tests.
