I learned this 16 years ago in jujitsu and somehow still remember it to this day. I learned some of the pronunciations wrong but this helped me learn the correct pronunciation.
Similar bro. I learned years ago in karate but only learned one syllable words for these number. I’m currently in Japan and some old dude asked me what words I knew. I belted out the numbers as I remembered them. I was miles off but he loved it! Haha
It is! Depends on your preference, you can use nana or shichi. But for certain numbers like 70, 700 and 7000, you would always use nana juu, nana hyaku and nana sen respectively! Same for 4 (shi/yon) where yon is used for 40, 400 and 4000, as is with the number 9 (ku/kyuu) where kyuu is used for 90, 900 and 9000. Reference: Japanese from Zero!
wait i thought 4 was "yon" or something? I remember hearing it in "initial-d" when they count backwards before racing. also 7 is nana right from nana anime?
So if I went into a Japanese pharmacist and the lad behind the counter asked me what was wrong and I said "Itchy knee, son", he'd think I was just counting?🧐
Hi.. Nice to see that Japanese numbers are same to my motherhoods language Balti. Balti is a language which is speaking all over the region of baltistan. Balti numbers 1-10 1.. ichik 2.. niis 3... som 4... jee . Chi 5... gaa .. 6... hutuk .. tuk 7... badon 8... begat 9... rago 10... facho Pronunciations are same i think 7 is change over all no change ...
Would recommend using よん (yon) instead of し (shi) as shi is also the word for death 死 so yon is preferred. Also I recommend using なな (nana) instead of しち (shichi) as it is too similar to shi and ichi.
This is how I learned it lol 1.itchy 2.knee 3.from the sun 4.she tried to yawn 5.so she go home and (nvm its went just make it go lol) 6.she woke up roku too 7.for nana she made chips 8.then she sneezed "hachi" 9.and she said 'q' 10.then went to checked her shoe
If you're going to learn the arts it is absolutely necessary at this time to learn to count in Japanese otherwise your candidates your timing and rhythm will be off and that's could mean somebody getting brutally hurt especially when conducting a keto on hardwood floors that are waxed
It can be either depending on when it's used. For example when you say your age, it is KYU-SAI, but 9 o'clock is KU-JI. You have to memorize them as you learn them.
This the beginning of my learning Japanese adventure
Can you please update me on what youve learned so far?

mista is mad for saying number 4
せろ= Zero
いち= one
に = two
さん = three
し = four
ご = five
ろく = six
しち = seven
はち = eight
く = nine
じゆう = ten
How'd you type in japanese?
Keyboards in settings you can choose different languages
corrections: じゅう is ten. じゆう would be jyuu
also ぜろ is zero. せろ would be sero
good job though my lad
@@tealwashablemarker8886 thanks for the correction in zero but I think 10 is written right
Oh nvm sorry about that @TealWashableMaker
@@Dark.Paradise jyuu, not ji-yuu, ten is wrong
I learnt mandarin when I was younger and the characters look the same, I just never knew how to say them in Japanese. Thank you!
Since "zero" is a derived word from English, wouldn't it be spelled in katakana?
When I was in 4th grade I had a class that taught me a little but of Japanese and 20 years later I can still remember 1-10 thanks to that class lol
Thought 4 was yonn and 7 was nana as the old words meant pain and suffering or something
They are
Both is good.
That’s how I was taught. I watched this I was like what? But I guess both ways are correct?
thank you, i have karate tomorrow and i need to learn 1-10 so thanks :)
That's awesome, I hope you had a great lesson!
I need it to complete a test for Judo.

Now you can count to 100

I'm very thankful for this video because I have a Judo test tomorrow. Thank you! :D
Seven is more often pronounced なな (this avoids confusion with 四 being pronounced as し) and nine is usually pronounced きゅう。
Really excellent. Loved the kanji experience too.
Thanks for watching!
I'm just starting to learn Japanese and got done with an introductory lesson and now I'm already confused. I thought 7 was nana?
Me too!

And four could be pronounced "yon"

Seems like they are similar bc of them being languages that have Chinese roots
Anyone know how have or seconds or maybe even passed is spelled in japanese but in english text like this?
Would recommend using よん (yon) instead of し (shi) as shi is also the word for death

Am I missing something?
Nidaime (2nd)
Sandaime (3rd)
Yondaime (4th)
Yes I got it from Naruto
i think yon also means four but i'm not sure
shi can be "yon" too, shi is like death in Japanese so we usualy say yon (but u can say shi)
Never heard 9 as Ku. Always heard and spoke it as kyuu.
I need to teach my brother how to count to ten for a test
Now you can! Good luck!
