for jazz? monk montgomery who swings like mad on a fender bass, mark egan who swings like mad on a fretless bass, and bob cranshaw who swings like mad on electric and upright.
hey!! First of all: I love this!! RUclips is filled up with all beginners lessons and when you need something more advanced, it's hard to find, or it's the opposite: some bass player playing such fast lines without explaining, more showing off than teaching. Off course I understand why: so here you have this jazz video and at the moment when I'm writing this, I see there are only 355 views (which is a complete shame for such a good video!) so I understand that this is not a way to make a living, there's way more beginners out there than bass players looking for this content ... So I just want to say thank you and keep up the good work!!! I'm always looking for jazz content on electric bass. (a pitty Steve Swallow doesn't do online lessons, I also love what Monk Montgomery did with Montgomery Brothers on his 51 P, he comes close to the sound of an upright)
Wow, thank you, Mark it's such an honour to be compared to Jeff Berlin! I know some people that don't enjoy his teaching style but personally I think he is an amazing player and he really really cares about his students and helping people become better bass players so I 100% think he deserves more respect/recognition! He has an interesting approach when it comes to playing jazz on electric! Maybe I should do a video breaking down his style that would be cool... (just think out loud haha) What videos/topics would you like to see on this channel Mark?
Great video! Thanks. So difficult to pick one favorite jazz bassist, but given the nature of this video (playing jazz bass on an electric bass), I'll nominate Stanley Clarke. I was fortunate to have a 5th row seat in front of Stanley when he played with Return To Forever on their 30th Anniversary tour stop in Phoenix. His extended solo on both double and electric bass is definitely my favorite bass solo of all time. It was stupendous. Some of the concert videos from that tour have a shorter solo, but his solo in Phoenix was long, but never once felt repetitive or boring. Here's a link to his solo in Romantic Warrior from that tour: ruclips.net/video/NGJ2AaIVGl8/видео.htmlsi=HQiZZBid5U8Hjd2i&t=2771.
@Kinga Glyk is my Favorite. I heard her a few months ago. Before Jazz was Not really mine. It is awesome to hear how she works with the bass. How she use the while fretboard.
