hello! a bunch of people on tumblr have asked how i make music, so i went all overboard this weekend and made this animation about it. there's a few new and old ditties in there. hooray! hopefully it helps?? i dunno but it was fun to make.
I’ve officially found it. The chillest channel on RUclips.

idk why but after seeing this i feel much more confident making music. like the way you talk about it makes it sound so simple. wish you coulda added the how, when and why to play certain chords in a scale then it would probably be the best short music lesson ever.
i actually have written a script for a lil vid about chords! prob won't be made for a while but it's a-comin'
That video is now out, and is very good.
@kyman cat the ukulele is easy and fun
What a sweet guy
This was incredible!
I love how you illustrated your way through the process too ^__^

God Louie, you're just the type of guy that I could never hate, you just have such a nice, positive energy about you, and your videos are always a pleasure to watch.

Hopefully nothing bad will come out about him down the line like so many others :(

...holy crap. If I could find something that shows the letter of music while it plays I think I could actually learn. This made so much more sense to me than any music lesson I've had.
Ristro44 there’s always sheet music that you can read while listening! I can tell you’re probably more of an auditory learner and seeing the actual letters help me too but learning sheet music really helps you get started with music
Agree about the listening while watching advice. You need to develop anticipation for what you are hearing, and the best way is to mingle the visual sheet music with a recording. Couple that with the Western music theory/harmonic language, and you’ll be ready to write and appreciate music in a whole new way!
How i actually learned how to read sheet music was that whenever i aquired sheet music i would write the letter of the note on the side or the top or bottom to play it with a "cheat sheet". After much practice and "lettering" i gradually learned to be able to recognize the note on the scale (I can only read bass cleff bcuz i play trombone im working on treble cleff). Mabye this method could help?
I know this was two years ago, but for anyone reading this later, give chordify a try. Sometimes it's quite wrong, but when it works it can be super helpful chordify.net/chords/ghost-duet-louie-zong-salem-saberhagen
Check out a program called Chordie!! It’s exactly what you’re talking about :-)
"This laptop is at least 8 yrs old, but I'm proud of it.." I get you man, I'm using a late 2009 macbook and everyone at uni is like "wow that's ancient" and "how do you even run ableton on that thing??" but I'm proud of it

"mijo you missing OUT get a good oldie and itll last ya!"
Same with mine, I think this laptop isn't old and work well even after 10 years. However I'm about to buy new laptop because it's starting to become very slow for normal use like editing, so I may need to buy a new one soon.
this video gives me this *SUPER* Bee & Puppycat vibe. just your soft voice, the pacing, the music, the art, idk its so soothing

@@kayleighzuniga9535 i only know how to play the kazoo but my lungs are weak
Its never too late to learn!
It's actually really easy and fun to learn how to play instruments. Especially either guitar or piano, which are really the only two instruments you can write songs on, because you can play chords and sing while playing them. Piano seems more useful because of modern digital technology allowing you to play any instrument with a knowledge of piano, with samplers/synths.
when that lightning hit the tree at the exact time the music climaxed, that was beautiful. its wonderful how music when combined with animated visuals can sometimes leave a bigger impact on a viewer

@Louie Zong What was the first instrument you learned to play? Your a big inspiration to me and I love your content.
aw thanks!! my first instrument was piano, i was classically trained for a while before picking up guitar - it definitely helped to have a technically trained background to build on
I started on piano 3 years ago and im continuing to move on to other instruments. Thanks for the reply!
this is so amazing like.. this is so fantastically great that i can't even comprehend it, even after watching it as many times as I have. like everything about this. the art, the music, the tempo and the great feel it's just... so.. great

This is really cool!
I enjoy your visual style, and animation! nice to learn about ya music too! :)
You deserve every subscriber you've gotten and much much more. I wish you were my music teacher. Wonderful video, Louie.
Louie: These are all my instruments! *proceeds to introduce us to all his different lil friends*
Me: I have a um ukulele and the GarageBand touch instruments 😬
On a more serious note though, Louie, you really are extremely talented and you’re just a beautiful human being overall 💕
I was listening to this in the background while I browsed Reddit and wasn't really paying attention, but when that last song started, I had to stop and give it my attention, it really pulled me in! With all the instruments, you would think they wouldn't fit, but they all came together and it _made sense_. Great job!
Not many singers could say that their singing voice is just as nice and cloudy-like as their talking voice.
*And yet-*
gosh you are such a pleasant person
where can i download that last song, because i loved it
Its called "Theme For The Storm" - you can find it on his bandcamp site, the album is called "Themes II" - if you type in bandcamp downloader into google loads of sites will pop up. Hope this helps!

I just taught myself music (or anything ) not nessasary needs to be special to be good.
Good is good. And that's is all enough.
What you loves you turn it special to you.
Nice work. Still inspiring souls.
Thank you Louie.
The audio visual aspect give me chills man, the rising tension of music then just the boom of emotion, it was great. 👌
as a relatively new musician (I've been listening and playing other peoples' stuff my whole life, but just started writing my own things) I can say, music is with way easier and way harder than this video makes it seem. learning all of the chords and variations and theory and all that fun stuff is hard unless you are willing to put your whole self into it or you are willing to take years upon years of your life learning it. however, if you approach every single thing you write or hear as something to learn from, you pick things up faster. I learned the basics of ukulele in under a week because I learned how to play songs on piano that were written for ukulele. it's a mixed bag. this video really helps me understand more of how to make my music unique. I do take a lot of inspiration in my music from louie song, so it's kind of perfect that I've found this video....
Damn, this music is charming as heck! Lotsa Steven Universe feels here. =]
Nukatron You got that right. Just makes me want to cry the ocean its so good.
Maybe because he works for Cartoon Network? As I recall Louie Zong is a cardboard illustrator in We Bare Bears.

Awesome video, always so interesting to see the creative process behind how people work. Quick question; I realise it'd vary depending on instrumentation and complexity and such, but how long would you say it takes you to produce a song on average?
