The lyrics are great poetry
This is probably the 100th time since Nightwish released it...and it gets better every time I listen to it! My late aunt went on a month long journey to find our background....and she ended up with 3 binders of information on every single person in our family tree. She found that one of them was a General
under George Washington in the Revolutionary Army.

I can understand that you are getting emotional as you are watching this epic from Nightwish. Because few years ago, my sister and cousin traced and created our family history book on my and sister's father side. Both of them traced family history far back to 15th Century or about 600 years. 400 years is about average of family history. I am not releasing my last name, but name, itself traces back to 1066. I think they could go further back in time of the family's history. We are living in Perfume of the Timeless.
Often the best songs don't open up at first listen, and you have to listen to them several times. And this song really sounds better after several listens. I have listened to the song without watching the music video, which helps to focus on the song itself. I definitely recommend this.

Me too, i wake up, A Coffee and nightwish just to begin the day and than some more Nightwish during the day and into the evening. The tears, yeah, still happening, nothing wrong with that,they are touching me deep in my soul. Again with this amazing song.😊

I can see how emotional this made you. I'm known as a pretty stone-faced guy, but I had to reach for the tissues the first couple of times I heard this. Nightwish doing what they do best, going for the feelings.
Some probability calculations:
Step 1. Probability of boy meeting girl: one in 20,000.
Step 2. Probability of same boy knocking up same girl: one in 2000.
Step 3. Probability of right sperm meeting right egg: one in 400 quadrillion.
Step 4. Now lets assume that you have just those 12 generations of ancestors mentioned in the intro to this song. For the probability of every one of those 12 generations of your ancestors having reproduced successfully with right sperm having met the right egg is 400 quadrillion to the 12th power.

Great reaction....don't worry about getting emotional, Nightwish seems to touch a place in our souls that no other band can. I love the fact that Tuomas puts his heart and soul into each and every song, and like you said...it makes us think. Like my Grandfather told me a long time ago, "any day you learn something, it's a good day". And with Nightwish I am always learning something...I used to think myself somewhat smart, Tuomas proves me wrong, and I don't mind.
Each and every ancestor of ours, lived out their own tales in life the same as you are living out your own now. Beautiful to think about, isnt it. Some lived in good times, some lived in dark times but, they all lived, and all had children that survived to have their own children to carry on the hopes of their little part of humanity.
Once again a masterpiece from Nightwish. Tuomas Holopainen is our national treasure.

Certainly one of the best, and there's plenty of music from all the singers solo, as well, except maybe Troy, the male vocal here. He sings some with Tuomas's hunny Johanna in Auri but I don't know that he makes his own. If not, he should when he has time. I like his voice, too. :)

I was struck by the same thing myself, thinking of how many ancestors it took to create me as a person. And 400 years in geologic or evolutionary scales is not even a blink of an eye. What’s to say after your reaction! So much emotion!
I keep getting more and more out of this song, it’s certainly growing on me. I also love to see the reaction videos because through them I see and hear things that escaped my senses.
Nightwish is very special to me because it got me through so much grief in the past 4 years where I have lost several close family members, husband, both parents and an in-law who I much loved. I have scattered their ashes and see that visualised in this video of the band members turning to dust. I buried most of my husbands ashes with that of our beloved dog close together and planted two oaks on top. It’s the image I see of Tuomas turning into a tree!

Awesome reaction. It is kind of funny to think, that basically we need double the grand parents for every generation, but if we go back far enough, there was not that many people on this whole earth. For example in year 1 it is estimated that there was only 170-300M people on this planet. If one was born in 2001, he/she would need have over two thousand billion ancestors in 1001. And double that 25 years earlier. Something to think about.
I think I read that at one time in Earth's history there was a major disaster and there were less than a million people left alive. We have done rather well, all things considered 😊
Sometimes there was a greater-than-binary expansion of the planetary population,
Sometimes there were population bottle necks (think bubonic plague)
and Sometimes, there was Appalachia, with it's Family Wreaths...or Utah and PolyFamily River Deltas.
While the words of Tuomas make for great initial ooohs-and-ahhhs, they do tend to over simplify things.
(please don't get me wrong... I am a mega science nerd, got a Dr in front of my name. and an engineer ... and I'm a realist.
My immediate family has definitely messed up those initial calculations, lol)
Simone Simons(lead singer of Epica) has released a new single called "Aeterna". It is taken from her upcoming debut solo album "Vermillion" and was written by Arjen Lucassen (the brains behind Ayreon). It is sung from the point of view of a star, about to go supernova and die, knowing that in so doing it will create heavier elements such as carbon and oxygen that may eventually become part of living creatures.
