    this the one thing I'm most "scared" because I'm bitt reserved at first

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  2 года назад +5

      That's totally normal. As Germans, we are pretty much reserved at first as a nation so I knew I was going to really come out of my shell. I was still really shy during the first couple of weeks but you need to learn to celebrate your small victories like going up to one person to sit with them during lunch or just smiling at a few people in the hallway. The good thing is that most Americans are really open so they make it easy to find friends

      @@honey27003 I can verify that there was a lot of pretending on those first couple jumps at airborne school... Once your systems and procedures are in place and worked thru, you soon get to the point where you just have to take a deep breath and JUMP!

    Hi Laura, I am the District Rotary Youth Exchange Chair in South Carolina and just completed our Outbound student training last weekend and have the Inbound student training coming up in mid-August. I usually look at dozens and dozens of You Tube videos from former exchange students and I came across yours a few weeks ago. I am just so thankful for all the excellent information and practical tips you have for both our Outbounds and Inbounds. You cover everything that we try to cover and say as well, but, coming from a former exchange student, it is so much more meaningful to our students. Thanks so much for doing these, they are fantastic. I will probably share at least 10 of your videos with our Inbounds. Thanks so much for sharing.

    Hallo Laura!! I know you often mention the Ups and Downs of being a exchange student but I just hope that your time here was really good and that overall you had a great time as you seem So Sweet! NOW it's time for you to come back and experience more of the US as an adult!! (Make sure you spend at least a week in Michigan!!) Aufwiedersehen!!

    • @honey27003

      Overall, I definitely had a good year. The older I get, the more I learn to appreciate all that the downs have taught me as well.

      @@honey27003 I'm glad your experience was god overall! I suppose if you had come here as a College student you would have had an even better time as High School Kids can be very immature, even though some can act quite mature at that age. I'm glad you have thought about how the "Downs" in life make you appreciate the "Ups" more. Just remember it this way. "It takes Cold Rainy Days to make you appreciate the Warm Sunshiny Days'! Hope you come back to stay for a while in the US sometime soon!! Tschuess!

      Dear Aman,
      I am so sorry and I hope that will change very soon. Have you tried finding similarities with peopel? A favorite TV show or hobby? There might be online communities for your favorite games etc. Another thing I always find helpful is to put yourself out there and be very open. Don't be afraid of admitting you're looking for friends. You could also consider starting penpalship with someone from another part of the world. I know friendships and marriages even that cam from this.

    Amazing video! I am thinking about an exchange in the US, it has been my dream for a long time but I am not sure if I can make it. My English is definitely not perfect and I am an introvert. How should I know that I am ready?

    • @honey27003
      @honey27003  2 года назад +6

      Hey love, in my experience, nobody can ever be 100% ready for this. So if it's your dream then you should just go for it. In the meantime, there is so much content online that can help you prepare and you can always ask me anything if you have any questions. But don't ever not do anything just because it scares you

    hi laura! i’m from america and i’m going to england for a term this september, your videos have been so helpful in calming my nerves/preparing me. about how long would you say it took to really feel included in your school/friend group/family/community? i’m generally a pretty good people person, so i’m not that worried about meeting and getting along with people, but i am little nervous that the culture differences might keep me from really clicking with them. thank you so much for all of your tips and everything :)

      Hi,
      I will talk about this in more depth in an upcoming Q&A if I may. Generally speaking it will be much easier if you're a people person. Nevertheless I suddenly turned very shy when I got there for some reason. I would say to feel somewhat included it takes around 6-8 weeks and then you really feel at home after 3-6 months
