When I was first introduced to digital cable up in Canada in 2008 and I stumbled across The CW superstations that were available to us, Skilling's presentation style on WGN had me hooked right away to the point where I'd make a habit of watching the News at 9 mid-way through after the Illinois Lottery draws around 9:20 PM back when they were still using blowers/tumblers, just for the fun of it. It's kinda funny how not even a couple of weeks later after Skilling announced he was gonna, another similarly legendary meteorologist in Winnipeg, John Sauder, announced that he was also going to retire after a just under 40-year career of his own in broadcasting and meteorology between radio and CKY/CTV and CBC, which he did the first week of this year. Congratulations Tom on retirement and all the best to you! Not only are you revered in Chicagoland, but also by this guy in the Great White North too.

Being in New England and flying hot air balloons, we found Tom's forecasts more comprehensive than most and were very appreciative of his vast knowledge. Sadly, when we moved on from our big dish, we no longer could received WGN. Tom had the absolutely BEST graphics and gave the most complete weather forecasts than any other. So glad to see that he's been going strong all these years. Enjoy a wonderful retirement! You most certainly deserve it!

Rick loved Tom and they frequently chatted on the phone despite being on rival news stations. I had an opportunity to speak with Tom Skilling on the phone once and he kept saying, "Well, I gotta go. Lots to do!", but he would keep talking. I loved it. Growing up in Chicago, I've always (like I'm sure most of you) enjoyed his forecasts in the Tribune. Happy Retirement, Tom!

Class act. Although born elsewhere he was a West Aurora high school grad done good. Hope that back in the day he drove a little south to nearby Oswego where I grew up, to enjoy the ice cream from the Deri Hut and the small town feel of the place.

I still remember watching Tom on TV from a Milwaukee station before he moved to Chicago. I was sad to see him leave Milwaukee, but glad to see him retire!

I was born in July of 96. NEVER BEEN WEST OF CEDAR POINT! I am in Cleveland, and I know of this man, from WGN( on satellite!) Didn't know he retired, until 3 minutes ago! God bless you, sir, Joey

Two generations of Chicagoans have grown up watching Tom Skilling reporting on our town's dial-a-weather. Long ago, he described himself as a journalist whose beat was the weather. This professionalism combined with his passion for his chosen profession drew viewers to WGN's newscasts. May you have a long and healthy retirement, Tom.
