It should be called Tone Cruise
How does a musician end up with $1 million dollars in the bank? He starts his career with $2 million dollars in the bank!
Kkkkk true!!
@@Papa-tn3vn Yes I will try the veal
A riff on the old standard:
"How do you make a small fortune in the stock market?"
"Well, you start with a large fortune..."
haha it really true
I would never be a touring/road musician. Totally not worth the hassle. TV/film music placements saved my life. I can do all of it from home.
I will never forget those nights of playing a show for $250.00.....
.......then splitting it up 6 ways. Ahhh, those were the days.
Yeah and the people saying..." Oh and we'll feed you....". So you get to add a cheeseburger in as a bonus......
Paying the dues
@@VA434 ...Yup! First gig I ever played was at this dump called Gargoyle's.... Memories.....
Broooo 😂😂😂 this hits the spot
I played the shows solo using electronics and made the whole $250 per night
Rhett... trust me on this... start practicing your singing privately every chance you get... in the shower, singing along with the radio, in-a-low-voice along with your band, sing along with your guitar (like George Benson), etc... every single chance you get. Then learn and practice doing harmonies. - I was always just-the-guitar-player too and thought I couldn't sing. I also played pretty complicated guitar work, and thought it wasn't possible to play that and sing simultaneously... Then after doing all the above recommendations and getting my pitch nailed I realized I actually had a great voice (I bet you do too) and it turned out singing and playing at the same time wasn't hard at all. - Rhett, if you sang well, along with your already great guitar playing, you'd be unstoppable. -- Great look, great guitar playing, and great singing... talk about a triple threat! - Just sayin' bro... I think you're more than a sideman.
Great advice man! I’m definitely working on it.
👍 - Good man!
I already have a great look so no need to work on that....now, where are those little debbies
you can’t hype yourself up like that just to disappoint us when we check your channel Upload something!!
Start The Rebellion facts. Lots of great guitarists out there. Great harmony vocals separate you from the rest by a long way.
Musicians don't need money...they pay their bills with exposure bucks
SHHHHHH!!!! 🤫
Everyone will want some
American Exposure Card!
What's the exchange rate?
Alex Blanco I use to tell peeps if I get anymore exposures I’ll go to jail for it. 😆🎸🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
And free PBR
I would've guessed you steal towels and shampoo from the hotel and sell it to your bandmates. That's how I do it and then I buy shampoo and towels from my bandmates. We all make money.
I see you went to the Milo Minderbinder School of Business!
That’s how inflation works
Don't forget the shower caps
porta yes haha
Hope you make it big with Noah and the rest of the band such a cool vibe you have going on. All the best Rhett!!
Thanks Conor!
This is the age when musicians are cleaner and sober than the audience. Jesus!
@Fuzzy Butkus Yes, in my experience they're much more sob.
Tell me about it. Didn't even see one bag of heroin in this video.
Dr. Giggles music sucks nowadays cause no one does herorin. Hate to sound boring but how stupid does that sound
@@littlesquidward8117 It does sound a bit stupid. Good thing no one actually said that.
@Dr. Giggles Because you need to take heavy drugs to play rock n roll?🤔
Most musicians make their money through “their day job”
Rhett, the raw, transparent honesty of your channel and content are amazing man! So many people get to live vicariously through your career and experience the life of a pro, but more than that you bring your own personal honesty that’s so much more impressive! Keep doing your thing and much love for the future!
Dude, I seriously love your content. It inspires me to get out there. I hope all those shows you played went well bro!
Actual information starts at 8:30. You’re welcome.
Thanks!
You da real MVP
and ends at 8:50 WTF
As a professional musician I thought the whole video was entertaining, informative and well-made.
@@jimcarris3258 what else did you want to know?
The quality of your videos are incredible now. These are not far from HBO specials. The drone in the arena was over the top!
Your realness will garner more and more loyal fans! Thank you for helping new musicians out. I'm 22, just graduated from music school and I find these videos very informative. Hope you keep it up man!
Been watching your channel for several months now, Rhett. The variety and originality of content, production values, entertainment, useful info and sheer honesty contained within makes it one of the best muso channels out there. Much appreciated, pal. Keep it up!
Even if ur into shredy heavy guitar stuff. You can appreciate his tone
yeah every video i see of his live sounds really really nice.
The complaint generally isn't that those tones are "bad." It's that they are the past. Ola Englund calls Gibson and Fender guitars "Old Man Guitars."
Rhett sounds great, they all sound great, but they don't sound new.
@@dpb22 opinions vary
@@sleazoid99 Sure do.
@@dpb22 I have to agree with a portion of that opinion when it comes to Gibson gtrs, can't stand em in every way, Fenders just never get old so Ola can eff off on that one...I get that there's countless gtr companies/luthiers out there and its my opinion that unless a guitarist is designing/building/commissioning something truly one-of-a-kind and custom just for themselves, pretty much everything has been done innovation-wise in the gtr market. so pretty much everything is an 'old man guitar' unless its custom...idk I'm pretty high man.
This is not a dry explanation. It contains lots of back stage and back ground insights and hang time. I liked it
Your drummer is great. I'm a professional jazz musician and I was really impressed with him especially.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite RUclips channels. Really appreciate the effort and quality you are putting out.
For the 30 years I was in & out of bands I made money by growing the only hydroponic skunk bud in town to support myself .
this makes the most sense out of everything
😂😂😂😂😂😂
the hard part is rationing out the elbow of stank stashed under the spare wheel in the van when you're on the road. you don't want it running out half way through the tour. not the kind of thing you can just put in the rider.
Man I really loved this video. So transparent and refreshing to see how reflective you are. Very inspirational. And great playing too. Keep these coming please, if able. I think you might have more fans than you realize.
Love your videos, dude! Coming from someone who chose Engineering as a career but always wanted to pursue Music, your channel inspires me to get out there in the knowledge that IT IS possible to make a living out of it. I deeply thank you for these videos! I will be grateful to you when, one day, I can be doing my biggest passion for a living.
Also an engineer, crushing music gigs in my spare time. It's very possible to do both and, hey, the engineering gig bankrolls a heck of a lot more gear. :)
Rhett, these videos are put together so well. Kudos on all the behind the scenes editing!
The production value you put into these touring videos is amazing.
I am so glad you started doing this series of videos. I didn't realize how well you played before and I also find them very positive. Both of which are cool.
Really cool video Rhett, thanks for taking us along with you! Awesome to see what it's like behind the scenes. Keep doing it brother, cheers!
always helps to have a spouse that pulls in a good income :)
I totally agree with taking a few minutes before a show, just to be by myself in a quiet space, just to center myself.
Great series, Rhett! I enjoy all your videos. You always have great tones and guitar parts!
If time is tight, I do it while changing clothes just before performance, then my mind changes into performance mode, it never failed me ;-)
How much do you get paid on the road?
Musician- Almost enough for gas!
And beer.
@@StaticisStranded2 True, when I played clubs a bar tab of some kind was almost always included. Should be a given, lol. Sometimes ALL we got paid! 🤘😂
Didn’t your mama teach you any manners. What a dumb ass question.
He starts to answer the main question at 8:27 into the video.
Thank you! I got to 8:04 and I was WTF?
Your tone is incredible man!
Wow, hearing you perform "Whipping Post" I just realized how much rhythmic conversation is really happening between the Allman's two drummers when they play it.
U must have another group on the box
I love this channel and Rhett but gotta give a thumbs down here. It’s a 14 min video, and the actual content is from 8:30- 10:30. And that content is not insightful. How does he get paid? He gets paid a guaranteed rate every show. Some tours provide a per diem for food. Some folks save their per diem as much as possible, eating cheaply, to save up for gear. That’s it. That’s all the content in this 14 min video. No mention of, say, saving receipts so you can write that food or gear off on your taxes. Some good shots of their tour but look elsewhere for the finances of touring.
All tours provide Per Diems, not some.
You provide so much helpful information here, and it is really interesting. I liked your comments on the time you carve out to "center yourself" before performing, and to take a little alone time during touring a tour like this. You are inspiring.
Thanks for sharing Rhett, rock on!
Rhett Shull, living my best life. This is a great channel, pretty much every way.
Rhett, Rick Beato and you are helping us out with your advice and experience. Thanks man!
This started as a perfect found footage ghost movie, including staying in the haunted hotel room. From that point, weird things could've started happening while on tour. Backstage mishaps and stuff like that. It could seriously be a movie. I would watch it.
Finding your channel has really inspired me to start making music more with my buddies and push to find my own path in a music career, there’s no plan b.
That end tune was nice sounding. Very chill groove, I’m totally digging it.
You guys are brave to live this life. My shout-out and best wishes to your band!!
Thank you for your videos! Had to push pause during the intro to this one to say that those drums sound so good! That kick!
Your videos are great man... but I'm constantly impressed with how damn good you guys sound live.
Great vlog Rhett!! Safe travels man, cheers!!
There are plenty of good guitar related channels, but what I do really like about yours, Rhett, is not only the really high quality content, but even more importantly the fact that you clearly are a genuinely nice person. If I decide to spend some time watching stuff on YT, that time is going to be dedicated to people I'd happily have a beer with, and you are definitely in that group!
Rhett, great video, keep making these touring video's! Love to get more of these touring tips! Wishing you all the best
I so enjoyed following you and the band! Very enlightening. Life on the road isn't all fun, can be stressful and tiring as you said.
I was suprised by your filmmaking in this video, really smooth transitions! Well done!
Hey Rhett thanks for making the video! As always, great content!
Sounded great man! That version of Whipping Post was sweet!
Rhett, your edits and transitions are great! Keep the videos coming!
Another really great video....really appreciate the way they're shot and edited, too.
Hey Rhett! After watching this video there's no way I could move on to another without mentioning how completely blown away I am by the SOLID musicianship and killer songwriting on display here! Man y'all were crushing it! Damn good stuff, my day is officially made...so refreshing to discover great new tunes/artists. Take care man! -J.J.
Thanks JJ!
Damn, you guys sound great! I’m loving the songs I’m hearing. I also liked the glance at the nonexistent watch on your wrist in this video. Good work you’re doing on your channel. I’m binging all your stuff now.
so well made....love it..!!! ENJOY ALL.....the moments.......you are making GREAT memories !
What a great video showing the *real* work involved in being a musician. Great job! You and the band sound great btw 🎸🤓
Very nice vid man, keep em coming! Bless you on your journey. Greater things ahead for you bro.
I've recently started following your channel. I gotta' say, from the sound and your style, to the professionalism and attitude - you're the kind of artist I always wanted to be. Makes me wish I had pursued playing professionally harder.
I am a bit late but man, whipping post was killer.🤙 I dig that old sound. Great video.
bro, I really enjoy your channel, makes me wanna keep going and playing! you got a great tone btw! hugs!
I was a touring drummer, and I must say ur one of the top 5 best guitar players I’ve ever heard. Thanks also for sharing because I always try to explain this to young musicians, and u hit the nail on the head..🎸🎼🎶🎶🎶🎶
Really?
I really enjoy your videos, your insight, and your chill vibe. Your playing is outstanding.
Hey Rhett I've been watching numerous videos and this one is in my hometown and now it's definitely made up my mind to find my first guitar! I love the videos and the information you put in them. Wish me luck 🤘🏻
Nice to see you living the dream, Rhett!
good one man , love the tour vlog stuff .
I must say this is a great and ACCURATE video but I MUST point out how perfect everyones sounds and tones are.
Man you are awesome. Very informative. Thanks for doing what you do in the name of music!! God bless
Hey Rhett great video, this channel is top notch. I respect all you have shared about real musician's life. Cool sounds out of the Helix, no patch cord nightmares on tour
I caught the show in WV. You guys rocked!!!
The whippin post at the end was pure 🔥
Love that bit of Whipping Post. Thanks for the peek into the life.
This dude's voice is amaizing! Cheers from Brazil!
Love the content brother! Keep up the good work
Boy o boy, you and the band sound absolutely top shelf. Your playing is superb, your tones kick, kudos.
Thanks for the shots of Morgantown! Went to music school there in the 80s!
Really enjoy these vid's. Thanks for taking the time to bring us viewers, in a small way, into your world. Best Rgds.
Wow, this is awesome. So cool that you stopped at Greensburg, PA. Literally 15 minutes away from where I live haha, great work man, keep it up! \m/
I've stopped at that rest stop on I-81 in Virginia lots of times on my musical travels. Beautiful countryside there. And yes, a mid-March snow in PA is common. Best wishes on your tour.
Dude I love these video's. I learn, and I'm left inspired to play my guitar more. Thank you.
Great video! Kudos to all you do! Just started watching your videos. I was looking at the Strymon Big Sky video you did and just started watching your other videos. Well done!
Dude you guys kill "Whipping Post" ! Great job.
I love what you do (as seen in these vids) and how you think about it. THANK you for sharing this adventure with us.
*Best guitar content page on RUclips. The band sounds awesome, great reviews and demos, touring and rehearsal vlogs, studio recording vlogs, and tutorials. Rhett Shull two 👍👍up "BRUTHER"-in my Hulk Hogan's voice.*
2:48. It warms my heart to see a guitar with all its scuffs and chips (At least I think that's what they are). That thing sounds beautiful too!
We know it’s not from album sales 😂
Albus. Band the thing is no one buys music anymore
Music sales is non-existent now (except for commercials or soundtracks). You have to tour to make any significant money.
That's not true. Especially with the rise in sales of vinyl records because of all the hipsters.
@@laytonrichards2188 Vinyl sales are clearly up, but they constitute a meager part of an already meager income potential for musicians. I can't find the data, but I would guess vinyl sales for a musician to be no more than 5% of your total income. Possibly just a little higher than selling merch, which is only about 2% of your income. In today's environment, only a tiny slice of musicians (or music entertainers... if you know what I mean) get the big money. Everyone else struggles.
Rhett your tone is f****** amazing. I am not much for country music. I have played and recorded with country bands but I would jump at the chance to play bass with yall just because of your drummer. He has got a great groove!!!!!! Plus you guys do AB Whipping Post that is super cool. Love the channel Brother...........You keep it REAL
Great video, you have a wonderful attitude and deserve all of the success that is sure to come to you.
Great guitar tones and songs. Really like the vocals and guitars. Tasty stuff.
One other thought...Noah has a great voice & I love the original songs. I hope you guys prosper & have success!
You’re awesome man! I play for my church and a few gigs out and about.
I really enjoy your content and your playing.
I do the same thing. Playing with the worship team, and occasionally doing a solo. Otherwise, I'll be playing for large venues with the local Mission on holidays. Churches and the Missions are not paid gigs. I do them because I love playing and really enjoy playing for God and the people. Finally I also enjoy playing at Senior centers, coffee shops, rest homes.etc. Most of this last group I play for will be paid venues on a case by case basis.
I love these vlogs. I cannot get enough of them. I am a gigging musician based out of Maryland. I also own a Helix, but I never played it live. It's an amazing tool, but my danm feet are just to big and clumsy for working it in a live situation, I need a board with more space between the buttons, but if I had to for quick setup, I'd prob have to limit my pedal switching. Another awesome video.
Dude your tones are incredible👌🏼
Rhett, I've listened to the helix a lot and I think it usually sounds great. But you are the only one I've heard make it really sound "real". Dig it man.
Good stuff Rhett. I dig that version of Whippin' Post.
Thanx Rhett for your videos - they are very inspiring.
Staring though that windshield is a lonely beautiful life! Play on brother, the world needs to hear it!
Great video! I just discovered your channel and I’m looking forward to going back and watching some more videos!
Nice little film dude 👍🏼
These videos are awesome! I enjoy them all.
Thanks for sharing Brett!
