Tommy just has it all, talent, grace, humbleness, and bucket loads of personality to boot. He's magic! He brings out the very best of anyone he plays with, no matter how good they already are.
Damn I wish I had been in Europe when these guys were touring together ! I have the limited-run CD but it was recorded early in the tour when the trio was still warming up to each other; it’s still a fabulous album - a “Friday Night In San Francisco” for the 21st century - but here they are a well-oiled machine. Before RUclips-era, Stochelo was already a legend in USA guitar circles, and one would have to travel to European jazz festival to see him.
Tommy is the greatest in that he plays with others that have a specialized style and he plays as well or better than them in that style. At least he has in everything I’ve seen him in.
I'm sure most people listening will agree, both performers are master guitarists! However few actually know the Aussi is a jack of all styles & a master at all genres!
It's impressive how Tommy can change ad adapt his technique depending on the context (I'm observing the right hand right now, usually he does anchor, here he doesn't)
Stochelo is using two. The electric one is a Peche a la mouche magnetic Pickup. The clip on extension mic is one I can't recall the brand, maybe Sennheiser or Audio Technica. Not sure. Try checking at either Dajngobooks or Djangoguitars online.
I think they could've EQed Stochelo's guitar boosted hi up there a little EDIT just because I wanted to hear it more - it's not meant to be a criticism.

Nervous? they've been touring together under the name kings of strings with a third guy (i,m blanking on his name now), driving in the same bus, sleeping in the same motels, playing guitar all day....pretty sure stochelo is not intimidated by his good friend tommy. He looks more exhausted because they've been playing there asses off.

I think this is the best I've heard Tommy ripping through the gypsy jazz thing.

Stochelo is a class of his own.
They both are, perhaps stochelo is slightly more comfortable in this style but Tommy can adapt to anything!
