    Thanks for watching and your comments. This Hood is super rare and shares its fit with split window VW's. They have a totally different support system. the prop rod is super rare because it has 5 holes 4 holes for the hood brackets and a 5th hole for the longer prop rod just like split window vws. Early 55. is different than even late 55 on lots of parts. this will be an interesting build. Stay tuned and subscribe if you have not already.

      Yea I am just going to wait a bit till it is cooler. that sucker is in direct sunlight most of the day and when it is hot just too unbearable.

    This is the most selfish comment ever made. I am so glad to see this video,where as usual you just cut stuff out get on with it and refurb perfectly. Thats why I absolutely love your work. Down side you know you can and will do it,but sometimes its nicer to do easier stuff. I think your content on your skilled work,is by far the best on utube and probably worldwide keep it up

      I wish someone made them would be much easier. on these early hoods. plus you could take a later hood and turn it into an early. When they are missing.

    2:08/25:59 Nice to see the rubber stoppers are in somewhat in good shape. Those are place before the clips to hold the molding. Prevents rust from the metal. People forget to replace those after painting the VW Classic cars.

    Do you use rust inhibitor on the hood before you put the new piece in then put it all over the new also?

      Oh yea for sure. then I will sand it back off then prime.

      @@Mikefngarage I never used that stuff until this last patching job I’m doing. Can’t you prime over it?

      @@68hitnmiss76 yea you can prime over it but I dont like to use it over paint then prime over that. best if you just use it on rusted areas. There is so much rust on there that I need to coat the whole thing then sand it off too many painted areas.

    Sir, You are a metal sculptor. If you have time, look up Kirigami paper sculpture. You'd be a natural at this.

    You don't need to hammer and chisel the hood moulding off. Just pinch the spring clips from the underside.

    I have broken tire beads like this before but it can be hard on the sidewalls of the vehicle you are driving if you miss your mark. You might use a wooden plank and drive straight up. I have also seen people use a LARGE C-clamp to break a bead.

      no not for this year. early 55 and earlier are super rare and hard to find hoods. they share with the split window.

    Mike what was the brand of ceramic buffing compound you did a video on a while back ? Cream x or ceram-x ?

      CSI cream x is good also Menzerna Polish. 400 then use 4500 or 4000. to finish. I like CSI wool and foam pads. self centering.

      this one is easy compared to the others I have done. but yea it is a lot of work and you really need to want to see the cars saved.

    Mike, I know you must have mentioned it before but why have you gone with the Bauer line of tools, valve, performance, etc. ?

      price of the batteries is much less than the Milwaukee I always need extra batteries. Performance is good for the price. Plus there are lots of tools that use the same batteries. I think the Bauer line is a great value. some tools last a few dont but overall I can have many more tools for the same money.

    If you're gonna cut and weld so much why not just cut and bend every side of the piece individually and weld it together at the end and save yourself time and hassle.
