Going through a very difficult breakup now and thought of this song, which I only recently found this year when the relationship was slowly falling apart. I still love her and its very sad how everything ended, but this song gives me peace through all that. Finding this acoustic version now, it was so touching to hear Michelle talk about how she appreciates the support from others for this song. I'm not sure if she'll ever see this comment but I hope she knows this beautiful song still touches people today. I hope to someday post a cover of this song when I have the emotional strength to, if nothing else but to keep the legacy of Michelle's great music alive. Thank for this incredible performance!!
This song has always been like therapy to me, I had to say goodbye to someone I loved more then I’ve ever loved anyone. I went through a state of shock as if it wasn’t real. I slipped into a terrible depression almost as if I almost grip on reality it was really scary thinking back on it now. I remember a few weeks had past, and I felt this immense pain trying to come out, but me not letting it. This song came on at the end of a Buffy the Vampire slayer episode, and I instantly started crying after the first goodbye to you, the tears didn’t stop for what seemed like an eternity. The point is, because of this song I snapped back into reality and finally grasp the sad reality that we would never be together again, but it was the way it was suppose to be. I still can’t play this song with out being taken back go that moment.
This song came out around the same time my high school girlfriend and I broke up. Tragically she died about one month later. This song always makes me think of her.
13 years later and i still come back to this track every year, its great! lol funny how she cant remember why she wrote it, the lyrics are very powerful

Billy Joel has always been like a person who got me through heartbreak and everything else in my life! This is a special song, like Joe Walsh and Don Felder playing guitar on hotel California, it's just artwork. The funny part about your song is it finds me when I need it the most, at a grocery store radio, or something like that. Truly special and I don't know that it makes anything better in my relationship but I know someone else has felt the same way I do .... I would go to Sedona a lot cause it was so close, and the Flagstaff/ Sedona area is so pretty. It's like there's literally magic in the air. I've never felt that in any other place I'velived before.
