The pain of seeing car dependent city planning being used for a city with no cars is unmatched
he got right into building american suburbs💀💀💀💀
@Nick Gerz The planning code in Skylines is from the 1960s and mixed use development is clearly illegal. Same reason Australia has no renewables industry, come to think of it.
I like how the secret to pedastrian cities irl is mixed use everything so there's always shops, café's, jobs, etc... within walking distance of people's homes and you just completely went the other way
he said "residentual island" and I immeditaly went huh
Heres an idea, make a city filled with canals and the main mode of transport is ferries, inspired by Venice
I agree
@@aturchomicz821 i know right i put ferries down in my city and no one use it
@@aturchomicz821 i know right i put ferry
I’m denouncing Venice
1) fill the canals with sewage
2) force all the ferries to sail in the liquid poo.
3) ???
4) Profit! 😁
"We need an emergency Clinic"
*Builds Crematorium*
"if he dies, he dies"
Put it next to the waste incineration plant. If one's overflowing, put it in the other
He sounds like sim supply
I mean...
They both address the problem
James: *bans cars*
Literally everyone: *keeps driving anyway*
James: Wait, that's illegal
Human Action
wait, is he James from the sims supply??
Cause they sound the same!
Even the ending theme is the same. I knew it hahhah
not in Hong Kong there is a city there called Ma Wan where everyone uses mass transit cars and trucks are not allowed and you need a permit to visit the island.
Lol literally what every liberal says about crime.. XD
please do a part two of this one, it's your best cities challenge so far! :)
Agree.
yeah i'd watch a part 2, and 46
Alexanne M that’d be even better hahahah
Agree. Do at least five parts, then allow car traffic on all roads and watch the chaos.
Babe goals.
'You know I forgot people can die'
- Flabaliki 2019
"Here's a crematorium... I mean ... a "clinic"
I remember when his name was conflict nerd
Shirō would be angry if he heard that.
@@patrlim conflictnerd and Flabaliki is are two different persons
I was sitting here watching this thinking: "man this guy sounds just like the Sim Supply"
Then I got to the end and saw James' face on the merch link, and my mind was blown
Thought the exact same! Have watched a few videos now, and this is the first time i looked at the plugs for his social accounts.
Literally!!!
It happened to me too !! 😂
The main reason why there isn't a lot of bicycles, is that there is no bicycle paths !
Adding roads with bicycle paths, and bicycle path bridges (or get a mod that has both pedestrian *and* bicycles on it) between the islands.
And add the bicycles policy in *all* districts, yes, even the industrial one !
_/small_wall_of_text warning_
I have been doing a fair bit of pedestrian experimentation, lately, in the hope of improving traffic in my bigger cities, and I found the following :
- *Busses suck !* … they are great to begin with, but they just don't have enough capacity past 10k population, and they add traffic.
- *Metro rocks* … up to around 100k -200k population, then you end up having so many of them, that they start bunching up against one another.
- *Trains !* They are the true mass transport, just don't forget to build multiple and disconnected tracks, so you don't get cargo and passenger mixed up.
After trains, there isn't really any high capacity mass transport … at least none that can compete with it.
However, one thing that can help, especially on longer stretches, is to increase the speed limit - And don't be afraid to make it go REALLY fast !
That said, AFAIK the highest capacity traffic connection that I know of, is ….. dun-dun-duuun … the Pedestrian/Bicycle Pathway !
I have yet to max one out, even if it's black with pedestrians, they still keep going - Frankly, I don't think they *have* a maximum limit.
If you want a city to go past 500k, you will NEED high capacity mass transit *AND* a lot of pedestrians !
Otherwise, you will hit the maximum vehicle cap, and your industry will hurt .. badly !
Also, Offices don't produce nearly as much traffic as regular dirty industry.
*_At high population levels, reduction of traffic, is the name of the game !!_*
I hope you can use any of this for your city building pleasure. 😁
Dude this was a great read - very useful info, ty
Pedestrian paths and bike trials are truly underrated - the distances Cims will walk is really amazing.
@@DocNo27
They will bike even farther !
If the infrastructure is there.
Meanwhile in real life , there going nuts building bike lanes all over the city, - and no one is using them . . .
@@lasarith2
I see a lot of bikes where I live, maybe it's dependant on culture as well ?
You should really do a whole series with no cars. This would be so interesting and kind of futuristic
Yessssss atleast bigest city center only walking roads. In real life citys chanse roads more easy to walk in the city center areas. Tram and buss is good connection to city center
Mackinac Island is car free, and has been car free for decades.
Madrid and Paris are going to ban cars from their downtowns this year.
I tried to build that but with a big city and It worked so why not always ban cars or make it very expensive
Justin Hill A friend of mine worked as a carriage driver for a summer there and absolutely loved it. I think it’s such a cool concept and I kinda wish it would be used in more areas!
toob I think u mean prehistoric lol
That map came with natural disasters. It's called archipelago
Was about to comment the same.
@@rangerbobox1915 I only know that cause I got natural disasters on ps4 edition
Yeah someone else already mentioned that, my bad!
@@JayJayGamerOfficial is cities a good idea to get on PS4? Cause I wanna get it but I'm not sure if the console version is any good.
you are definitely gonna miss the mods :/ especially traffic related ones
Bet they all turned up to their houses like "why do I have a garage?"
I just laughed so hard😂
Everyone knows the garage is where you store your junk, or play the drums, whilst the car gets parked on the road.
to park cars wich they can`t drive
that`s obvious
So they can start their Garage band
Jordan Beauchamp loo
James playing The Sims 4 : We want cars !
James playing Cities : skyline : Let's build a town without cars xDD
Should have done the cycle roads, cims can't park on them.
And people will use bicycles more
What are *cims?*
JTheMelon the people in the game
@@thomasmartin5169 Yes, I know people in the Sims games are called *Sims* but I don't know what *cims* are...
JTheMelon Ahahahaha good one
They’re called Cims because it’s Cities Skylines, and I guess that’s that
Accidentally placing a crematorium instead of a clinic, just hinting at their demise 😂
Ikr that was so funny loool
Lol 'Sooo...we're not providing any health care in our city. It's just witchcraft or something anyway. Oh, and we have a new crematorium in the city!'
God, playing that map with disasters is something else
Especially because even just a strength 7 Tsunami will just sweep everything away, and there isn´t really much you can do to prevent that
I want to see a whole city like this. Like Sedona or Dirttroit! Utopian city without cars!
There are some islands on lake Erie just like this in real life. Put-In Bay and Kelly's Island. Everyone just walks, bikes, or rides golf carts around. And you take a ferry to the islands. Only a few hundred people live there and each island is only like 3 miles across. Really neat to place visit if you ever get the chance!
Good job JT! :-)
Ayyy biffa
😀
Ayy biffa
Ayyy Biffaaa

I clicked on this video bc it was on my recommended and was like "this guys sounds like semaj" and as it turns it was semaj all along
New challenge...put all the challenge islands on the same map to see how the different "societies" interact with each other.
I love that you combined Dinotopia, The Land Before Time, and Jurassic Park.
When you banned cars I hoped at least one household was gonna beat the system by having a motorbike 😂😂🤷🏼♀️😆
I’ve never played this game and I don’t know how I got here but I’ve been binge watching for 3 days because his voice and the building is soothing and therapeutic
Any chance you can do a video on making pretty road infrastructure? I know how to handle traffic, but when i build a city i always do grids, cause when i try to make like snaking roads or w/e in turns out to be a serious eye sore. You have quite a knack for make beautiful meandering roads etc
I try to make trees/branches, seems to work acceptably
sheepco you should check out cities skylines road hierarchy
I forget which series, maybe Industries, but he mentioned he just Google image searched something to the effect of "meandering suburb" and took inspiration from that, might work well for you too
I'd actually love to live in a town with no cars. I'm dutch so cycling is in my blood. Yeah seems fun and nice to live in.
What if you made island cities, and the one way to get from island to island or to main land, is with planes, hot air balloons, or cable cars. Only public transportation that is hig above ground.
blimps!
My next city idea, needs 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2 assets tho
This is great. You need to take all challenge ideas into your next city skylines series. Cycle and walk areas only. Industry island that are only connected by rail or ship.
I was expecting him to say "James here today" and then he said flabaliki and I was shook
I first came across you on your Cities Skylines Challenges. I'm glad I stayed. Great video!
I would love to see more of this city! Particularly in terms of getting people to cycle and increasing walkability would be cool. Someone else already suggested this, but a challenge using canals and ferries would be cool to see, too! I once tried that and couldn't really figure out how to get people to use the ferries instead of walking.
A city with every highway & main road underground! (only two-lane or pathways aboveground)
That just looks great. You need to continue working on this type of city
This s a legit endeavor some cities IRL want to achieve: have as little private vehicles as possible and shove everyone onto walking shoes/bikes/buses/trams/metro.
It's pretty much a requirement for mega-cities, talk to a new-yorker and ask them how congested the roads are. Generally the answer is "when is it not?"
@@ScarletFlames1 Pretty much the same here in Shanghai. A few years ago the city center suffer from colossal traffic jams every day, until the mayor secured Beijing's permission to build a lot of metro across downtown and shoved everyone down there. Even to this day it is still preferred to travel by metro in Shanghai. Also we have bicycles for rent that takes you between your home/workplace and the nearest metro station.
I've been thinking about this video all day! Finally I get to watch it, totally worth the wait!
Even though there's been no focus on aesthetics or decoration, the road layout is really satisfying. I'd love to download this map and work purely on beautifying it.
“A city with no cars!”
Mackinac Island: *are you challenging me?*
With islands like that you should have the highway run through the water and weave between the islands. Just have exits branch off. Highways take up a lot of squares.
No traffic problems...but, Sewage..
My utopia would consist mostly of electric vehicles on its city streets. Battery charging stations would replace gas stations. Everyone would drive Teslas, Rivians or golf carts.
Great video!
I especially like that you managed to do it all without infinite money or everything unlocked from the beginning.
Thank you James for listening to me and other people! I really appreciate it James!! (I was waiting for this for a while!!)
I have another challange:Build a city connected only by planes.
Prohibitively expensive to have more than one big airport.
@@joelfilho2625 well it should work well with unlock all and a few loans
@@epiccrik4521 Quite a few loans, and I still think it would be inneficient as all hell when compared to trains/boats.
@@joelfilho2625 well still worth a try.
I absolutely love these little challenges!

Build a City only using Public transport, but you cant use endless money for builfing everything and the goal is to make atleast 10k a month in profits
I love this idea! Please! More episodes
I'd love to see a full series on a car-free city
These challenges are some of ny favorites
I love them too.
He said "Boom Town!" Followed by "we are blowing up" 🤦♂️
Do a whole city like this! It's awesome!
I love it. Please more of it!
Im going to try this when I get home. I never played with this map before but I love it
This is my first Cities video since I got the game and that comment about your mods nearly made me weep with joy. It was fate.
Been awhile since I’ve last watched your recent videos. Your voice changed a lot, I like it haha
I feel like a filling the whole “9 tiles” would be interesting an interesting challenge to watch
These challenge videos are the best!!!
It would be nice if enabled the "Parking AI" in the TM:PE mod. Have all the Cims park in parking lots outside the city and then walk in. I get a little peeved when the Cims put their cars in their pocket, lol.
Your commentary in this video is hilarious.
"ThEy'Ll NeVeR dRiVe AgAiN" mwahahaha!" I freaking love that
i'm really enjoying these challenges! v interesting
I noticed an option for seaplanes in the Skaargard playthrough and that gave me an idea for a challenge: A city you can only get into, out of, and around in planes. No cars. No trains. No buses.
You can change the max amount of pasengers per bus from your mod
Nobody:
Japan: Thats how our country works! :)
For the record, Prop Anarchy is why the fallen trees don't get deleted when you put down a road
That moment when YT recommends you a video of a channel you never heard before and it's actually pretty good.
This is the holy grail of traffic control, i'm rebuilding this on this map and am now up to 20K citizens :D Also, a lovely way of exploring the mass transit options
You forgot people could die? Have you never stabbed a human and watched them bleed? Yes, people can die.
Love this idea!
I think the logs is a glitch with prop and tree anarchy combined with road anarchy which makes rocks and the other props in the rocks section not get deleted when placing roads, it can get quite annoying in the maps with lots of rocks.
I know an example of such city it is called Ma Wan and it is in Hong Kong. Everyone uses mass transit and cars and trucks are no allowed except with a permit.
this is the first video i watched outside of thesimsupply and oh my god. you go three speed in this game too. you're killing me!
How about a city with only Trams?
BenDizzy19 i feel like these are going to start getting very repetitive if we keep doing cities with only one mode of transport
@@scj6693 A city that BANS walking!
only after 27 min I realized it's a left-hand traffic hahaha... awesome video!
Boii make a part two, or a whole little playlist out of this banned car city
The challenge: ''Build a city with no private cars.''
Flabliki: ''WALK!''
Citizen: ''Wait but a bike is faste...''
Flabliki: ''I SAID WALK!''
It's 2 in the Morning James, Well I wasn't sleeping any way. Love your videos, Fan from NZ
its 4pm here :D
there is actually a small island in germany (called Hiddensee) near where i live where no cars except for ambulance and firetrucks ect. are allowed, you just use bikes for everything and it is so peacefull there
What about creating a transport hub at the highway exit where the sims can hop on various different transports into the city? You could have monorail, ferries & maybe cable cars taking them into the city where they could change to buses, subway & trains to move around. Of course you’d need loads of parking lots at the transport hub...
Pedestrian City should be a series!!!!
"I forgot people could die."

"Hey Kids! If you look to the left you can see the cemetery where you parents are probably going to get buried at!"
When he found out his mistake with the crematorium I couldn't help but laugh out loud :D
i didnt notice i was clicking on a James Turner video and when he started talking i was like wow this guy sounds a lot like James! 😂🤦♀️
How about a fully off-road city only using dirt tracks and paths?
You do Sims AND Cities Skylines?? Holy shit, Semaj. You just became my new favorite RUclipsr.
i think it would be cool to revisit this with the new plazas & promenades dlc 🤸🏼
Add some coal-powered power plants and place the wind turbines in the forest instead and you have Germany in 2050
This is kinda what's
I try to go for when I build. Mass transit systems aren't necessary when everyone walks and bikes. All it really takes is mixed use zoning and the encourage biking policy.
I would have had a high speed highway with exits for the small islands and trun the samething on the big islands but through the center to beter utilize the space.
Please make a series out of these islands!
This will help my traffic improve very much! I have a metro network, around 20k citizens and a traffic flow of roughly the same percentage. Wonder if I can get it up to 90 percent?
The challenges are my favorite videos!!
Im dutch your videos are so good
Do a challenge of no taxes
*Anarcho-Capitalism intensifies*
I’ve done that let’s just say I got -400,000 a week.
Well with the new industry dlc it's doable, though you'll have to worry about the start.
Can you pepper different districts together? In a walkable city you want everything you need within a few blocks.
Really like the pace of this video, doesn't have a bunch of boring filler.
"It's working beautifully.." (300 people waiting for a 30 seater bus) 29:15
Fry nothing like waiting for 3 hours hahah
Hilarious that you’re deleting the traffic lights. The delivery drivers are like “man I hate driving in that city”
There's a no-pollute outflow pipe thing on the workshop
Ehh. The eco water treatment plant is exceedingly close to 0%. Put one upriver with a garbage collector after it, and if a water pump is downstream it won't even have pollution at all.
