- Here's what you need to know before starting freelancing. I've seen a lot of how to freelance videos on YT where they only show the bright side of it, and not the whole picture. Here's 3 hard truths to keep in mind before starting freelancing. These include:
1. You are your own boss
It's one of the best parts about freelancing, but it also becomes a problem, as you'll have to constantly reach out to people, get more clients, upskill yourself. Since it completely depends on you, you can't just take a day off and relax(it's harder for me atleast) when you see that there's one more client that you can pitch to.
2. There's no security
Your client is not liable to get an insurance for you unlike in a job where you get a health insurance and other benefits. You will yourself have to get these securities. Also, since no client will work with you forever, you have to reach out to new people. Some months, you won't get a single project while others you might get tons of projects.
3. Understanding your self worth
If you don't know how to properly price your time, clients will easily take advantage of you. This has happened with me as well. Learning to say no when the client pays you less is also something you need to develop.

Start freelancing in your college session. It is the best time to start it. It always must be your passive income. It is because , you didn't get project and clients every time,so you need another source of it.

A 9-5 isn't secure either. Ask all the people laid off during covid how they feel. A business will under pay and toss you any time
no, there's difference in the two fields.. when u get a permanent job, the pay is fixed and u get it monthly, but for freelancing, the pay isnt fixed and there are times when u might not even get work that week/month, so there's no security or way to ensure the payment.. the risk in 9-5 is being fired, but for freelancing, there are more risks than that

1:20 Clients can stay forever... I have a "freelance" client from Australia that I found on Upwork. We are working together since 2015 and when I ask him "How long we will work together?" his response is exactly that - "Forever!" and he laughs... so these freelance platforms can really change your life. From a freelance artists point of view:
If you're inexperienced and a beginner freelancing will help you kickstart a business of your own. You can sleep late wakeup whenever you want and work in your PJs. It pays well.
The problems I faced are these. As a creative spirit I love creating my own projects. But I don't have time to do that because I'm so busy. So I feel a bit burnt out. Some clients are annoying as hell 😅. But you'll have to please them because you can't afford a negative review. You can't work whenever you want because there is a deadline so there are no holidays. You are constantly thinking about your gigs. Which is not good for your sanity.
So here's my solution, start freelancing if you're a beginner or you're completely fine with everything I said above. Then when you feel like you can stand on your feet sell your art (in my case) in different sites... When the passive income comes rolling in slowly let go of freelancing. Do your own projects and sell them in appropriate markets.
So that's my take..

Freelancing shall not be your core aimbition infact it should be your utilization of time.Thats it.
But in a world of tech, surely Freelancing is the future. It would actually be wise to take it up full time. Getting a job is convenient because it is guaranteed you are getting paid. No risk. But you are working for someone else.
The best-paying jobs have these features.
Insurance Advisors and Realtors share similar experiences. But the advantages outweighs the disadvantages.
It's really informative, which is very important to keep in mind, the money is most important thing, but remember ur happiness is decided by you, u have to be almost perfect to be successful
A company is a freelancing entity too and it has the same issues u mention and it affects you as they may even lay u off. Incidentally most doctors, dentists, lawyers, CAs, artists, Yoga teachers, professional players, etc. are freelancers . If u go into anything thinking its a cake walk u get screwed even if u are going for a job. Incidentally the benefits of freelancing are more apparent as u age and after u hit 58 when the employed retire while the free lancer goes on for more than 15 years. You obviously haven't freelanced !The freelancers are in it for their freedom, their time and their health. If u r a tech guy really good at some stuff, freelancing is the best option as even big companies come

over the last ten years i have failed at freelancing about 90% of the time. one thing i can say is dont go into it thinking its a means to an end. its a straight up hustle. and if your just getting started do it part time while working part time. and set reasonable goals. its not an easy game.
Also the competition is crazy. I am skillful and quite experienced in graphic design. Its been a month and I still can't get any job, even the simple one. Honestly its so frustrating.

bro....believe me you are talking about the solution for which one have to create the problem first.....freelancing is all about earning through skills, so hustling for skill building is not a problem.
For me after so many years of freelancing, still have no security, its naw harder for me to hustle, there are so many young talented people joining the market every day which make it harder, the everyday plugins and ai solutions are killing the trade, if i can go back in time i would just open a fruite shop and enjoy reading

When you are in a business it's not guaranteed that you will have customer's every time some months go hard and some as smooth as butter but if you don't give up and go on your networks will be strong and eventually business will grow same goes with freelancing initially you'll also have to burn some just to build confidence by providing work in free or else so keep going and don't pressurise yourself

@@_reyysingh there are several people out there whose profile might be great and would work for less money than you. Honestly a very risky game unless you figure out a niche, that takes several years. And living with anxiety of unstable finances also slows down other cognitive functions. Really not worth the trouble at all.

About to be freelancer could be a difficult thing at the beginning, we don't fon't forget that we pay taxes and paying per project could be more late to get your money. So, the best thing is we can start to work for any company and would bring more opportunities.
Talking about disadvantages, I would like to aware the newbies - Once you are a freelancer, no company (I mean, most of them) will consider your freelance experience and the hiring manager will even reject your candidature if you apply for a regular job.

I can give you few example, a freelancer will not be trusted where there is a chance of data loss cos the freelancer may still be connected with his past clients.
A freelancer can't be trusted with his abilities of being a team player or handling a team.
A freelancer may fake his experience and it will be difficult to detect.
A freelancer can't be trusted when stability is concerned.
Etc etc....

That's true Ishan. Once E. Bloch a german philosopeher said that everything has + and - side, so it's the case with Freelancing. It's not for everyone. Give it a try only when you have enough info about this journey :)

Jus play around guys, and always learn the basics before starting any work. I learnt all about fiverr algorithm before starting and then I made my first sale in jus 48 hours of starting with scratch.
Few tips,
Try to be unique.
Try to be minimal in displaying your work.
Understand the client deeply.
