I love this video, after my grandpa lost his battle to cancer I inherited his 93 Accord. It definitely wasn’t worth fixing up as it had already been through a nasty accident and had a million problems with it. Anyways, after about a year and a half and a bunch of money worth new parts and body work I had it looking exactly like he had it before everything went south. I love my cowboy grandpa a bunch so I’ll keep using that thing as my daily driver until it’s completely obliterated. Great video
As someone who drives an 80s bimmer because of the memories of them with my sorely-missed late dad, the "small reason" you're keeping it got me teary. I am not too proud to admit the parking lot donut made me outright weep because I have priceless treasured memories in the right seat of his track 325ix in winter, five-pointed as my dad did the same thing around light poles in an abandoned parking lot to make me laugh and shout. You clearly love your son and I can guarantee you the memories you make with him will be ones he carries in his heart forever, like I do as my father's daughter. I may not you know, you may not know me - but from the bottom of my heart seeing the joy of this connection reflected in others means so much to me. Thank you.

Between Uncle Bill spinning out of the garage at the end and the little one giving his approval and showing he has the moxie for it in the future, this is like a right punch to the gut. Makes a guy smile and well up at the same time! We’ve all had an Uncle Bill in our life that we loved despite their flaws who had a greater influence on us than we care to admit. My folks (it was my mom's car) had an 87 Camaro RS. My dad loved to do donuts in it. One time he was spinning us around in the school parking lot after we had an inch or two of snow and caught a piece of a light pole. My mom was livid. That's the car I learned to drive in, during the winter, in the rust belt. The speedometer pegged at 85, and it went the fastest 85 of anything by my recollection. When I was in middle school it blew the motor. Dad had me get it ready to pull the old block on a Friday before he got home from work. The plan was to drop a in a new short block the next day. We spent the entire weekend putting the thing back together sun up past sun down, with me getting cussed out, because I put all the parts in one big box as I pulled them off. I miss that car and I miss my dad. I'll always have a soft spot for third gens.
I had a 4th gen with a similar problem. If you have a spare TPS laying in your parts bin you can try this. I got the idle RPM to drop from 1300 to 800 on my Firebird by turning the mounting holes on the TPS into slots. It allows the sensor to rotate a few degrees each way before getting locked in place with the screws. With this, I could manually clock the "0" position of the throttle with the engine off and a voltmeter and at idle using a digital tachometer I had. Took 2 years of remove and replace tinkering to find this fix. Hope this works for you too man. Thank you for the content.

I was have some of the worst times someone can have 2-5 years ago. I have managed to turn it around, married for the first time Sept 5th at 41 years old to a beautiful Brazillian woman, once I get her put of here and into the USA, I look forward having a life that resembles yours, kids, nice little house, my project cars/trucks, some 3D2A, creating some interesting things in my garage/workshop, getting involved in a job that I enjoy that gives me fullfillment. Doing some really nice things and doing some cool "wrong things, the right way" Anyway, thanks for the videos, I definatly appreciate your lifestyle choices and cannonly hope to be as blessed myself one day.
Imagine how cool it would be to give him Uncle Bill's car as his first vehicle. I got an old Ford Maverick as my first car growing up and it was the reason for my love of cars today.
Hits close to home. My dad built a kit cobra when I was only 4-5 years old, and I absolutely loved that car. Only just now, ~20 years later, he sold it (literally yesterday). Broke my heart a little bit when I heard the news but I suppose it’s good to have money and space for more projects!
I have a 3rd gen trans am in high school. Made a great first car. Fun without to much power out of that 305. Would make a great car for your little one someday.

I feel your pain, I would’ve sold my 89 Prelude many years ago, but my nephew is obsessed with it, at 8 years old he’s angry he can’t have a power wheels that looks like it and wants real one lol… so in 10 years it’ll be his. At least everything under the hood is in lesser words is all 97 CRV mainly so it can be enjoyed guilt free and have parts availability.
On Gen 3's the trashedometer is more important than the mileage. The trashedometer is the amount of door sag, a good indicator of what the car has been through and how well it was maintained. If the driver's door drops an inch when you open it, run away-lol.

This was cool to watch, glad to see you're hanging onto the old Bird. On the sticking idle - If you haven't done it yet, clean the throttle body. I've owned a few third gen cars and a dirty throttle body is usually a cause for a stuck high idle. Other possible culprit of the idle air control valve, that can get gunked up as well. Rockauto still has the Delphi mass airflow sensor who was the OEM for GM back in the day.
@@thedoubtfultechnician8067 Ah, you might be right. It's been a *long* time since I've done anything with TPI engines. Out of all the replacements available, the Delphi is probably your best bet these days. What code trips after the WOT shenanigans?
Your uncle sounds like he was a cool guy. I watched part 1 a little while ago so I like to think I'm the difference :) Congrats on 50K as well. You'll do well on YT. Your videos are entertaining, informative, and genuine. And happy to see you learned how to wrench on the Pontiac :) What an epic ending...Harry Chapin. Gets me every time.
@@MathewPollard-vj4uq TPI = turned port injection. Referring to the fact it was the next generational improvement over the old throttle body injection that looked like a carb with 2 fat injectors on top. They put a lot of design effort in determining the correct plenum volume, intake runner length, and throttle body size & shape. The 60 degree V6's GM put in the 3rd gen Fbody (2.8L & 3.1 in '90-'92) were called MPFI, multi-port fuel injection. Similar in design, but used a batch fire setup instead of sequential fire. So when the driver side needed fuel, all 3 injectors on that side would be triggered. Same when it was time for the passenger side. It simplified timing, but sacrificed fuel economy & over all efficiency. I know way to much about the 3rd gen Fbody. Lol
Hey thank your lucky stars you have the resources, health, knowledge and lifestyle to keep it. Many dont cant or wont and thqta sad. So enjoy it while you can!
The Pontiac looks like it's from Back to the Future. The pipe through the T-Tops could be used to connect the pickup wire to the FluxCap & transmit the 1.21 GigaWatts. Maybe you can go back in time to ask Uncle Bill how to fix the high idle. Just an idea. Your videos are really enjoyable. If you continue making them I promise to work on being less of an A-Hole.
The reason it fires off so quickly is because the long tube runners on the TPI intake increase velocity between idle and 5,000 RPM after that the velocity slows down the air even though it can move the volume of necessary air to make power the speed of the air isn't fast enough. So that low end high velocity air allows it to fire off almost instantly that is if your fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump and injectors are all working properly and of course the starter.
I’ll preface this by saying: “I’m not sure of you can get live data of something this old.” HOWEVER, and you may know this, rule of thumb for a naturally aspirated MAF is that the flow rate should read: 4 x (engine displacement in liters) = grams/sec at idle. 40 x (engine displacement in liters) = grams/sec at wide open throttle. This is what we called a volumetric efficiency test at the shop I worked at. Do a 2nd gear pull to keep it from shifting and messing up your data. That should give you a quick and dirty test on whether your MAF is reading right and should work on anything naturally aspirated. Forced induction…. Probably gonna vary based on your boost curve and waste gate setting. I expect you could use volumetric efficiency on a boosted engine to verify compressor health or waste gate setting. Also, I’ve had old guys tell me GM had a pcm hammer back in the day. Possibly a joke I was too literal and trusting to get, but the idea was that pcm problems were so common on some models that there was a device calibrated to “thump” your pcm to see if it caused replicable drivability issues. I’ve never been able to find such a device on the internet, but I do know that sometimes a gentle tap on electrical components can get a reaction from like cold solder joints or something and I can see OEMs wanting to discourage people “checking” their pcm with a small sledge.
I think your 1st video on it took off because of your 30-minutes love letter to that Chrysler; got all the car guys looking through your backlog. Also, here's hoping the Firebird gets a limited-slip in the back.
I've got the same issue of high idle with my 4th gen Formula with an Lt1. I haven't fixed mines yet but since I heard you replaced the IAC, but didn't clean it, that could be the issue, if its really carboned up in there the IAC might not seat fully. Idk if that is your issue, or just an issue, but worth looking at if you didn't.
Uncle Bill would be happy.
Goddamn I love this channel.
Thank you soo much for not selling the goofy old car your kid loves, I've been that kid, that stuff leaves scars that last decades. You're a good dad.
You don't always get what you want is an important lesson. If you don't learn that as a kid, you'll have plenty of issues in life.

2:01 "It's not stupid if it works."
just found your channel recently and have been watching all your videos, im loving the content and hope you love making it! Keep it coming man!
The American dream is still alive boys
We are so fukken BACK
those are some of the nastiest turtles alive.
Your kid is so spoiled :D
Uncle Bill would be proud.
Keep it up!!! You are one of my favorites. I have the same reaction to your vid drops that TOT used to warrant.
As a an Idahoan, I appreciate the Napoleon Dynamite reference.
I had an 84 (305 carb) and an 88 (350 tpi) mostly the same body style and same interior. ...boy, do I miss those cars...
That fast fire is thanks to the TPI. GM did part of it correctly .
What is TPI ?
Lol
As an aspiring uncle bill myself I approve this message lmao
Hows about a camper tour? That thing looks cool as hell!
I really dig this channel by the way.
Keep em comin!
I’ve got two videos on it!
It sounds awesome. You got to love it
fuck yeah new video
Awesome story. Really cool car.
Another great video. Your kids right, don't sell Kit.
So when does the Knight Rider interior conversion start? :)
Hey thank your lucky stars you have the resources, health, knowledge and lifestyle to keep it. Many dont cant or wont and thqta sad. So enjoy it while you can!
Yessss been waiting on this one, keep it up man!!!
Uncle Bill is proud of you
The Pontiac looks like it's from Back to the Future.
So that low end high velocity air allows it to fire off almost instantly that is if your fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump and injectors are all working properly and of course the starter.
i love the american v8 landboat, looks amazing
YES! I was hoping there'd be an update
That start is 🔥🔥🔥
Love any videos about your cars
+1 for the algorithm. I can't believe this guy doesn't have more subs
Idk if that is your issue, or just an issue, but worth looking at if you didn't.
was waiting on this to come out!
The tapetrick is not bad. But way more expensive than just ignoring the CEL, like i do. Regards from Germany!
I love this so much
I need to ask… please show me how you fix/modify the ride on kids car… mine looks exactly the same 😂
Maybe the uptick in views is that, like me, a lot of folks have recently discovered your channel.
When you showed the reason you're not selling the Trans Am I have to say I cried from how wholesome it was.
Now now, those soviet tools are masterpieces
on the idle issue - when it thinks the AC compressor is on, it will kick up to ~1000rpm at idle. I would start there
Also loved the snapping turtle
i mean can you blame the kid for loving the transam when you do stuff like that with him in it. too cool
For the algoritm, greetings from Holland
