I draw 2 circles, since head isn’t perfectly spherical, it also helps with better showing the depth and shape in perspective. Plus it really easily makes the shape of the eye socket and temporal bone
They overlap each other, I guess it’s hard to explain since I don’t do tutorials, and it changes depending on the perspective you’re viewing it from. If you look at a skull from the side you might get a better idea of what I’m talking about, but the back sphere defines the parietal and occipital plates and the front sphere kinda traces the frontal plate and the zygomatic process. The specifics are less important imo than the idea that you find simple shapes your comfortable doing that help with your guidelines. I used to have to draw basically the entire underlying structure/skeleton to draw a half decent picture but as I’ve worked on improving my 2D skills I’ve found shortcuts that work for me. Find the simples shapes that work for you but still define the form and eventually you’ll be able to simplify your construction even more until you can just draw without needing them (this takes years tho so don’t rush to not using construction lines)

THANK YOU SO MUCH THANK YOU. God i have been having this issue with drawing heads for so long and i randomly found this short. Thank you man, this really helps. I have watched a lot of your shorts for help and...questionable reasons but they are always so helpful!! Thank you for these videos
This was very helpful! This actually made me realize why my drawings looked off at times and why I would always expand the inital circle because I knew it felt like something was off. Thank you for this helpful tip

Here the head was not a problem, only the lower part should have been drawn bigger (wider neck and muscles around the neck). I understand that if someone has drawn a head first, and realized that there wasn't enough room for the rest of the body parts he planned to draw, or that the proportions of the head are too large in relation to the body below, this technique helps to make fewer mistakes in drawing the head, but in the example you gave, and if only that's supposed to be drawn, you only need to fix the lower part, and save more time than drawing the entire head again.

But often times it's really hard to find constructive ones 😅

My jaw literally dropped cause i was struggling with wide head syndrome earlier
Thanks for showing this! I do have issues with this when sometimes when drawing.
♦️ When I draw a circle as a head it's usually for the cranium. From the top until the bottom of the nose. So it works still.
No wonder my drawings looks somewhat odd.
You dont know how much this help me so thank you soo muchh for this video!❤

I never thought I was doing it wrong until now
The way he says "and draw the rest of the face" like it's a cakewalk for beginner😭🙏
good tip but I didn't get technically not wrong but have to do it in perspective.
I think what’s really helpful is instead of working with a sphere, cut off the ends of that sphere bc the head isn’t as round
