eBiking OH Erie Towpath Trail - Bolivar to Clinton

The OH-Erie Towpath trail is part of a larger system that runs from Cincinnati to Cleveland, Ohio. It is a multi-use trail that follows part of the former route of the Ohio & Erie Canal in Northeast Ohio. On this adventure, we went from Zoar to Clinton, Ohio; however, in this particular video, I focus on the Towpath Trail from Bolivar to Clinton. If you are interested in the 10 miles along the Zoar Valley that we added on to the south, check out my previous video on that part of the trail. Bolivar to Clinton was a beautiful ride full of small towns, wildlife, and tree covered canopies.
Length:
It is about 30 miles. If you add on Zoar Valley Trail to the south, it would be 40.
Recommended Trailhead start:
There are numerous fantastic trailhead terminus points. We had incorporated the Zoar Valley Trail into the trek so we had parked at the Zoar Valley Trailhead; however, there were no facilities and very little parking. Fort Laurens in Bolivar, was a far superior trailhead in the means of facilities and parking.

Facilities:
There are plenty of facilities all along this portion of the trail with the majority of the trailheads having bathrooms and bike fix-it stations. In addition, the towns of Navarre, Massillon, Crystal Springs, Canal Fulton, and Clinton have restaurants, hotels, and groceries.
Bike Shop:
Ernie’s bike shop is right along the trail at the Lake Ave Trailhead.

Trail Condition:
From Bolivar to Clinton, the trail is in excellent condition. It is a combination of asphalt, boardwalk, and crushed stone.
Food:
Bolivar is a great spot to stop for lunch/dinner. The Towpath Tavern has a wide array of food choices, and right on the Towpath route while going through town.

ebike regulations for trail:
Class 1 and 2 eBikes are allowed without accommodations
Class 1: ebikes that are pedal-assist, with no throttle, and have a maximum speed of 20MPH
Class 2: ebikes that also have a maximum speed of 20 mph, but are throttle-assisted

I replaced the stock seat with a wide one from amazon with better shock absorption.

Life changing! I added a rearview mirror to my handlebar.

I added waterproof Panniers to carry extra batteries and my chargers.

BATTERY/CHARGER:
I ride with 1 long and 2 regular range batteries, and two chargers. The batteries each take about 6 hours to charge. I typically get 20-25 miles out of each regular battery and about 30-40 out of my long range depending on terrain and outside temperature. Hills, rough terrain, and colder temps decrease the lifespan.
