Exactly-!! let the family cheer for their kid? Is this Hitlers school? Over the top. There are RULES in place to protect everyone-!! Like no weapons etc. But then there are just ridiculous rules based on Karens having a miserable life so they don't want to see any expression of happiness from others.

@taxicamel okay, write a 50 page essay about it.... 😂. You clearly Care-A-Lot about this. But somehow don't care that a little black girl didn't get her diploma for something as simple as dancing... and actually you're incorrect maybe you should read the article the school clearly stated that they were not allowed to be cheered on by their families. Even the school district came back and said that that was what happened and that they don't stand by it. Apparently you're the only one who stands by it. Even the school district agrees with this girl, that she should be allowed to express herself on stage and that family should be allowed to cheer for their loved ones. But apparently you're the only one here that is against that. You're silly. Watch you be anti dancing but Pro child marriage or something... maybe you should live in the movie Footloose.

would it be ok if some other student decided they wanted to do the moon-walk across the stage?

would it be ok if some other student decided to do the-worm across the stage?
would it be ok if some other student decided to do cart-wheels across the stage
has it occurred to you that it's not just the Principal's desire? Like maybe they had a consensus with other staff, school-board, parents, even other students...on what behavior would be
      ideal for a non-circus-like event?

@@Dandeliondart But you aren't the principal, and not the head of the school board, or anything other than someone that has an opinion on what a ceremony should be or not be. So you want a free-for-all, and no rules, and complete mayhem. The people at this school had other plans. But apparently this girl (and the 3 others not shown or reported on - for SOME reason) decided that they didn't want to follow them. It's called structure. Touchdown dances allow for you to act a fool, but a graduation at West-Point doesn't. People decided on what they wanted this event to look like. And doing the chicken-dance across the stage wasn't a part of what they decided upon.

The "rule" is probably in place from a previous incident of someone getting carried away .....so they may have been forced to make the rule. Try to think outside the box.
Many commenter wants to display sympathy for this teen and suggest the school is in the wrong.
      WHAT????
There was a rule. It was very clearly explained to the graduating class. THERE. IT WAS EXPLAINED!!! DONE ......and everyone else FOLLOWED the rule.
Now the teen decides to ignore the rule just explained to her .....and "mommy" ....who has NOTHING to do with the school OR graduating class, makes the opinionated statement "...it is "2023....". What does that mean? Anything at all? Nope. It is just mommy mouthing off ......so now we know where daughter gets it from.
I 100% DISAGREE WITH MOST EVERY ONE OF THE COMMENTERS. Every one of the graduating class is following the rule .....and this one CLOWN thinks the rule does not apply to her. THERE IS ONE IN EVERY CLASS. AND, I'll point out, the rule is there, very likely because of a past incident of someone getting carried away with some kind of dancing. There are REASONS for rules. People don't just create rules for the sake of creating rules.
Is this little CLOWN going to go through life ignoring rules? Hafsah Abdur-Rahman then has the audacity to say "She (the principal) stole that moment from me. I will never get that again." YES. THAT'S CALLED THE CONSEQUENCE OF YOUR ACTIONS. You're supposed to educated. It looks like this little girl didn't comprehend everything during her education. Rules apply to everyone else ....not her.
It seems most commenters think the school and the rule is wrong. It has NOTHING to do with the principal. It is the rule of the school that EVERYONE is expected to follow. Don't try to put the blame on anyone else ....and stop with all the excuses. She DID receive her diploma.

I am only replying to your comment because I have seen how lately these graduation ceremonies have become like a carnival atmosphere. It goes back to my comment about rules and regulations. Kids today dont like rules and regulations. The Principal clearly stated no dancing on stage. What is wrong with the Principal wanting a classy, dignified ceremony. Not kids doing dances and cartwheels and breakdancing. Being humble and classy will never go out of style. Yes it is an achievement to get your diploma but how about continuing that achievement by showing restraint and class. One school told the kids the same thing and every single one of they purposely danced and carried on. It looked really bad. They all were escorted out from the ceremony and should have been. It looked like spring break the way the so called educated kids where acting. What's wrong with just coming up and getting your diploma, shaking the principals hand and getting off the dam stage and sitting back down? Is that too hard to do? I know this will not be a popular comment with you.

I know, coz I’ve seen it - day after day. People acting like they’re entitled to do whatever they want. Stop coddling our children. 6ABC WPVI
    Taped June 16, 2023
    Released June 15, 2023:
Please get the story right, Sarah:
    1) Hafsah didn’t get her diploma “snatched” away from her, she never got her diploma at all, not until AFTER the ceremony, as promised! And of course she got to keep it.
    2) Hafsah didn’t “walk” across the stage, she DANCED across the stage. That’s what this is all about.
And Brianna, you’re missing some parts too:
    1) Hafsah admitted during the June 9 interview that she “knew and understood” what the graduation rules were, she also admitted that she knew what she was ”supposed to do” in order for her to get her diploma ON stage. She knew all this before the graduation ceremony began.
So that can only mean that Hafsah acted out of disrespect and defiance.
If Hafsah wanted to handle this correctly, she would have taken her grievances to school staff, administration or the school board BEFORE the ceremony began.
But instead Hafsah and her mother are coming up with excuses like Covid, and now the unfortunate death of her 15-yr-old sister Aisha 9 years ago.
But very unfortunately this is more about disrespect, defiance and not going through the proper channels.
Hafsah’s mother made a huge mistake and disservice to her daughter by not using this incident as an opportunity to teach her daughter the importance and necessity of respecting the people in charge.
