Images and Words - the album that for some unkown reason was on the jukebox at a local pub I used to go to way back when. Blew me away. Particularly like Wait For Sleep followed by Learning to Live.
I agree! Images and Words by Dream Theatre is the only one I by this band that I really got into and those are the 3 songs that get lots of airplay on my all time favourite songs playlists
Same here. I liked their first album as well, but this one really hooked me (and has far better songs than this one, btw). Also, thanks for mentioning Moore. To me, Dream Theater were never the same after he left.
@@TheAsphyx666 can you believe Kevin's a Dr now! Lol 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 I have the live at Budokon I think it's spelled. Hey check out James's cover of Kick Start My Heart with his sons band Falset. Chance Labrie is awesome
Heard this song on Z Rock radio (a syndicated heavy metal station) while sitting around the hotel pool out in Las Vegas in 1992, while on TDY for the Air Force. I knew as soon as I got back to my home AFB that I was heading to the local record store and buying this album 🙂
Dream Theater can definitely play their music live. They are Juilliard and Berkeley guys. The lineup is bass, drums, guitar, keys and lead vocals. I would probably point you toward the Budokan, Radio City Music Hall, and Boston Opera House concerts. Unfortunately, the RCMH concert is not available in the Blue Ray format. I typically recommend watching Breaking All Illusions at the Boston Opera House. But, it’s difficult to select a clunker. Do you like more Prog or more Metal, with vocals or instrumental, with an orchestra or without? We might be able to narrow down the options for your next review.
No need to feel any sense of failure at not picking up on this, I thought I had really broad musical tastes within the rock spectrum but the advent and growth of reactors and having much more time this last 12 months due to work issues to watch them has made me realise just how easy it is to be much more insular to the world of music than you think you are. As to whether this track is too commercial as some people have said in the comments, what that really means is that it was popular, where’s the problem with that? It’s not like it’s bubblegum pop and they certainly did not write it to be popular. This probably drew in thousands of fans who may not have otherwise heard of DT and who subsequently explored the whole range of their discography and became serious fans. If it means so much to them to be the only fan of an obscure band they should start their own!
Just one guitarist. John Petrucci. Also, it always amuses me when people hear the ending and think...man, is the track done? Did it cut out early? Should I find another version and try that one? That's how it ends. Suddenly, and without warning. It ends like life can end. And that was the point, I think, of this ending.
Also, I think I remember them saying somewhere, that they hated the way most popular songs ended, with a long fade out. They wanted to do the opposite.
@@laju It's funny though - the radio edit DOES end with a fade out. God...can you imagine? Dream Theater agreeing to a RADIO EDIT? Those truly were different times!
The spirit Carries on is a great song , from their masterpiece of an album , Metropolis pt.2 , Scenes from a Memory. It has some The Dark Side Of the Moon vibes.
Yes! More DT! This is one of my lesser liked tracks only because it's a bit... drifty. I'm not sure how to describe it other than you have to be in a certain mind to listen to this song. Luckily my mind to listen to it was made up when you posted a reaction to it so let's do this! :)
@@deanwolfechannel I always thought that it had something to do with the often sudden nature of death. Was this Portnoy giving a nod to I Want You (She’s So Heavy)?
There's multiple guitar tracks overlayed on each other on the studio recording. Not abnormal at all, and anyone could get the impression that there's multiple guitarists involved.
@@nikelodeon6852 Where did I say I didn't like their other albums? I love DT it's just Images & Words has some of my favorites, like Learning to Live for example :P
2 guitarists??? Only one needed when it’s Mr. Petrucci.

Learning to Live, what a song

This is one of the only songs of theirs that broke through my nirvana NIN, RATM days, until TOOL. They opened ALL the wings of my soul. 😉
Yesssssssssss!!!! This album is the reason why I got into prog metal 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽. 1992 I was 16 11th grade! Hail Kevin Moore!!

Panic attack was the first song i heard.
Then The Mirror
Then this
Phenomenal stuff
I felt like I was transported to the 80's, rockin' a head bandana and everything!
Lol
I like what you've done to the wall behind you :-) This is a fantastic album imho
Thanks

So you are an Anciients fan. Awesome band. Had no idea you knew about them.
They are local more or less. So when I heard of them, definitly want to support them
I thought that album cover was Anciients, but I was like "nah, it has to be something else..."
Incredibly underapreciated band

The abrupt ending is a nod to The Beatles.
Love it. Love to be surprised.

I think the video you had cut off at the end... 😂😂
I've heard now that it just ends like that, abruptly and inexplicable. The Beatles did that on a song too.
Yea the boring radio friendly one...hopefully now that this is out of the way we'll get to the juicy ones.
It's not boring lol. Images and words is probably my favorite DT album
their other songs are too much for me, i feel like they overdo it. pull me under is great though in my opinion
Wow both of u are dead wrong lmao. This is their most boring song and if you really don't like any of their other songs prog is not for u lol.
