    • @RobwLPOC
      @RobwLPOC 3 года назад +2

      This is such a different story though, the story out there was he showed up because he had no contract and basically blackmailed Vince McMahon into giving him a ridiculous amount of money for one match to drop the belt to Chyna. Him showing up saying hey look I'm owed money for the last two pay per views I'm worried that you're going to stiff me I want the money for those two pay-per-views upfront and a reasonable amount to drop the belt.
      Asking for money he earned as opposed to blackmailing Vince for money he didn't is a way freaking different story than what was out there

  • @georgewilliams1470
    @georgewilliams1470 5 лет назад +16

    From several sources I had heard that Jarrett contract had expired and he was going to WCW. He was scheduled to lose the belt to Chyna at a PPV. Vince had him sign a contract extension for the match he was owed money for several PPVs and house shows so he wanted to be paid for it and get a bonus for putting a woman over so he didn't look bad going to another company.

    • @RobwLPOC
      @RobwLPOC 3 года назад +3

      That's such a huge difference than showing up and blackmailing Vince for a ridiculous amount of money for one match to drop the belt. Asking for money he had actually earned as opposed to ripping Vince off because he had him by the balls is a totally different story

  • @RobwLPOC
    @RobwLPOC 3 года назад +2

    I'm glad they cleared that up, HUGE difference between blackmailing somebody for a huge Payday for one match RATHER than telling them you want money that you've actually already earned before you leave and not wait for it.
    Although hold up would not apply with no contract really, that would be part of the negotiation in for the temporary contract of wrestling that night. Even if the original story was true and he asked for a ridiculous amount of money because he knew he had Vince by the falls, that still technically wouldn't be holding him up because he was negotiating a different contract he wasn't refusing to do something under the old as a grievance

Austin worked with the Rock way back in 97 when he was pretty much a nobody while Austin was the hottest star in the business. I really like the way Prichard put it here: the bottom line was that he wasn't going to work with JJ because Stone Cold said so. He has every reason to hate the guy, and he's definitely the type of guy who holds grudges. I can understand that. He probably should've been honest and just said "I hated his guts." in his book.

    • @RobwLPOC
      @RobwLPOC 3 года назад

      I don't consider that holding him up. He was negotiating terms for a contract to wrestle that night. I can't believe I never heard that before but I was able to verify it, holy shit is there a difference between blackmailing someone for a big 1 match payday and saying you want money you already earned and was owed to you upfront rather than wait for it.

  • @lrodzen
    @lrodzen 4 года назад +3

    He didn't hold them up for money. His contract expired. He didn't even have to show up. He could have mailed them the IC Title and showed up on Nitro. He didn't have to do the Chyna match or put her over... but he did. And that alone tells me everything about Jeff Jarrett, he was a professional and kept his end of the bargain. So what if he wanted a payout? He deserved it for even being willing to do any of that.

    • @RobwLPOC
      @RobwLPOC 3 года назад +2

      He did hold them up for money but it wasn't for the reason that is out there, "the story" that has gone around is Jeff showed up there knowing his contract expired and ask for a ridiculous amount of money to wrestle one match and drop the belt. Basically blackmailing Vince because he knew he had him by the balls. That's not actually what happened!
      Jeff DID hold them up, but he was holding them up and demanding to be paid for the last two(?) pay-per-views he worked and a reasonable amount for that night. Which is a totally different story than what Chyna in her book and the number of other people have said happened ( she probably wasn't lying she just didn't know the difference all she heard was he got a really big check that night and assumed it was for that match)
      Usually you have to wait for the money to trickle in from the cable and pay per view providers Etc. The guys didn't usually get their money from a pay-per-view till a few months later. He was worried since he was going to leave the company that they might either stiff him or take an absurd amount of time actually send that money to him.
      So yes he held them up, but it was money he actually earned and was owed he wasn't ripping off Vince for a ridiculous amount of money to do one match like he has been accused of and everybody figures he was blackballed for.

    so many things wrong with the whole angle,mixed with back stage heat it was always going to end up the way it did! i think it should be viewed as what it was the culmination of the relationship beetween jerry and vince played out through jeff's career with wwf.Your hear so much about vince and screwing people but what everyone says is that money wise he pays up,hell he even paid nash months after he left wwf for wcw his westlemania money when he could have said screw it especially after the lawsuit with wcw,maybe jeff was right wanting his owed that night and just makeing a clean break.

    There was a rumor, not sure how true it is, that when Jeff Jarrett left WWF in 99 part of his deal on his leaving was WWF stock. Not sure how true it is. But that would technically make Jeff Jarrett a WCW employee while owning a part of WWF. IF any of it is true.

      Well if you're saying " I want this or I don't wrestle". Is still technically speaking holding him up. He was holding Vince up to get his pay-per-view money that you would normally wait for because he thought he would get stiffed and a reasonable payoff for that night.
      I definitely agree with the point you're making, asking for money he already earned as opposed to blackmailing Vince to give him a ridiculous amount of money he didn't earn to wrestle one match because he knew he had him by the balls is a very very different story
      His contract had expired so even if he was being a bit of a dick and asking for a ridiculous amount of money for one match it's still not like the warrior where you had a contract agreed to an amount and then screwed Vince at the last minute.

    • @RobwLPOC
      @RobwLPOC 3 года назад +1

      I mean if he showed up there and essentially blackmailed Vince McMahon for a ridiculous amount of money to wrestle one match, which is the story that was out there for the longest time you can kind of see why the WWF would be pissed at them. Him wanting money that he was owed and he had actually earned from the previous pay-per-views and not stealing a bunch of money from Vince because he got him by the balls since his contract expired are two totally different freaking stories

    I can’t say I blame JJ at all in this. Owed back money....no contract.....and is supposed to put over a girl on the way out. I get what Vince is trying to do with the Chyna experiment, but don’t make me the guinea pig when you have no clue how this affects my marketability outside of WWE. Forget about the money owed, I would’ve held him up for lost future earnings.

    • @RobwLPOC
      @RobwLPOC 3 года назад +1

      Such a different story. Everything that was out there is that he blackmailed Vince into an absurd amount of money for one match. Him saying he wants the money he's owed for the last couple pay-per-views and he actually earned is way different then basically ripping Vince off because he had him by the balls

    Watch Jarrett vs The Rock on Sunday Night Heat (Austin on commentary). JJ does not hit ropes right, he clearly slows down momentum to cushion his impact, you can't argue with Austin on that. I don't really know enough about wrestling to speak on JJ's other in-ring ability but his gimmick is mediocre and even the average fan at the time could see that. As for Austin's punch, I've seen it look phony as all working punches can do, I've also seen him land some real potatoes too, but the aggression and visual intent was always there.
