Absolutely love that Barlow especially with one blade, just looks simple and functional. The Copperhead is a pattern that i am fast becoming to love. Great video as i will now be purchasing both knives as i value your opinion. Many thanks
Great review, I bought the Barlow based on your comments. All I can say is for £23 it is an excellent everyday carry; great pull, lovely access to the single blade, no gapping etc, but boy was it dirty! Cleaned up a treat though. Thanks again for your review.
Nice pair. So happy the big R is gone. That R has stopped me from buying so many Rough Riders. I would love to see this bone on the work knife, I would grab that in a hot second. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful how that color has as much texture as the deep grooves in the bone. The yellow, orange, red, the brown all richly represented. These will get scooped up and hard to find. Thanks for the good look at that knife.
Thanks Warthogg, very much appreciated. I've been subbed to you for a while, some fantastic knives you have. Glad to have you and hope you're feeling much better.
Great review! The Barlow I got had about a 4.5 pull as well, the Copperhead was spot on as far as the build and the pull is about a 6. Both my knives came much cleaner. I hope you're right about RR's new look!
I just ordered the Barlow thanx to this fine review. Maybe later I will pick up the Copperhead. Getting rid of the Big R and the shield was a good move for RR. It looks like they are paying more attention to detail now. You have good blade centering and no gapping in the springs showing. The light pull on the Barlow is a slight concern. Some of the older RR Barlow's have light pull also. Its annoying but not a deal breaker.
Great looking knives the bone stag looks awesome... So glad the big R has gone from the bolster, if they used the horse shoe or anvil tang stamp that would be the cherry on the cake...Great reviews. Thanks TK
I ordered the trapper last night. Really looking forward to it's arrival. I love the barlow reviewed here! I wish they had also offered a large stockman in this cinnamon stag bone. That would be a must have if they had made it.
Love those, it's such an improvement without the big R bolster, I didn't mind the shield but those two knifes look great without any over the top embellishments.
I really like those knives, very nice with out the big R on the bolsters. Really like the Barlow having one blade, shame it pull isn’t stronger. Really like the one blade knives they have been offering. Thanks for the video.
I have the damasks with the R on the bolster nice ones bud…… yup I stress telling people about how dirty they come almost ever video I mention it….. thanks John keep buyin um
I have the damascus copperhead but these two look like they will be joining my collection as they become available here in the UK. Fit n finish look great and such fantastic value too even if we do pay the same price in pounds as you guys do in dollars.
Big time improvements, wow. I'm super impressed. Barlow is very tempting, too! Think I'll wait for other handle materials, bone stag not really my thing, but with the no big R, carbon steel, no shield... Really great!
I like the way these look, so much better. I definitely will be getting these two and hopefully a Stockman. The Trapper is out for me, can't do double nail nicks. But the nice clean look of these knives is just so much better without all the billboarding. Take care TK.👍
These are gorgeous, just got the copperhead in this series and am very impressed with the finish and the fit. In fact out 6 knives ordered from SMKW its the only one I have no issues with. That and I really like this pattern of jack knife. Yeah, all RR's seem to come dirty. I may have to get that Barlow too.
Great review John. Thank you. Ordered the exact same two and they arrive tomorrow so even more excited to add them to collection. I'm hoping they release a sowbelly pattern as well. Keep up great reviews.
@@ThriftyKaniffy Well, to be brutally honest, i was really anticipating this knife as barlow is one of my favorite pattern, love the cinnamon bone stag look, removal of R on bolster, etc. The copperhead is great, love it and absolutely no critique. The barlow however is a huge disappointment. The pull on the blade/tension on the backspring is so weak that I really can't understand why they would release the knife out to the consumer. I actually ordered two barlows and both are the same. I know you mentioned in your review the same issue. The knifes are beautiful but the pull is such a big disappointment. Its a shame b/c with a nice 6 or 7 pull this would be a fantastic budget knife. Perfect in fact. . . one of the best released at that price point i might remember. but, with the weak tension, its nice but not awesome.
Another great review! I was really disappointed that the Barlow in this series was not a two-blade version like the Wasp Barlow. I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I find I use the pen blade as much as the clip. Also, thank you for commenting on the pull. I actually prefer a lighter pull, especially if a knife has hard, squared, half-stops typical of Rough Ryders (as opposed to soft, rounded, half-stops as found in some other brands).
Ok, good comments Dave. Yep, I like that they went to a one-blade for some variety, but I hope that doesn't mean the 2 blade is going away because I like it also. RR just released a Tuff Stag series two-blade Barlow as well. Thanks.
All right! Been waiting for your take on these! They look great. Really great. Like knives for grownups. The barlow, especially. That smooth, tall bolster! Yeah, I think there always be some series with the big R. But some without it, and those are the ones for me. Both of these knives are kinda beefy, springs and covers both. I like that. Andy Armstrong listened to us and designed this series, and he’s gone now. We need to buy the hell out of these to ensure RR keeps going this direction. Thanks for the review! I gotta get that barlow.
I like this series. The Barlow is very appealing to me. I didn’t get the memo, I think there’s at least 4 or 5 videos out on these knives! I guess I will be in the second or third wave!
Great review. Ordered the Barlow. They often have errors in their specs and descriptions as I feel they copy and paste a lot. I have emailed them in the past regarding errors and they do correct them. Looking forward to the RRR single blade Barlow. Keep up the good work.
I ordered that Barlow a couple of days ago. I've been waiting for RR to come out with a Goldilocks sized single bladed Barlow for a while now. Previous offerings were either extremely tiny, or way too big for my tastes.
This will be my first Barlow. I’ve never cared for that pattern much….but the clean bolster, sweet bone stag and carbon steel does it for me. I also like the fact that there’s no big shield for a change. Of course since I’m a Lefty I never get to see the “show side” anyway. 😊
I was just telling Gruggs from Legion Tacticool Cutlery that this Cinnamon Bone Stag is one of my favorite series from RR. I think they did a good job with this bone stag
Just got my barlow in today, the pull on mine is a little stiffer than that. The build quality is definitely there for a “budget” knife. Only complaint is that there is one spot on the blade on both sides that doesn’t seem to patina but not an issue if you keep it shiny
Great video. I think the clip blade on the copperhead would look better with a long pull instead of the nail nick. That would get rid of the problem of going into the swedge.
I've noticed that the carbon steel Rough Ryders are always dirty. Just ordered these. I ordered the trapper too, but it is so close to the copperhead. I wonder why they didn't choose a different pattern. I hear they are coming out with a stockman in this style. Now that we've heard the hound bark, we need to see a picture!
I am so pleased to not see the R bolster on these. Agree with you much better without and hope they drop them altogether, also I believe you are correct about RR not making singlr blade Barlow before, I maight just weaken and buy one as I don't have a Barlow, it is not a pattern I like that much but this is a good looking knife be interesting to see when Heinnie Haynes stock this new series. Great review.
Be careful cleaning the covers with mineral oil. I rubbed them with mineral oil and kitchen towel yesterday to clean and remove any machining oil residue and it substantially faded all the black coloring. There was black all over the towel, and given the fading, I don’t think it was oil. It was the dye. I’m not sure how they die the bone, but I know it comes off easily. Kinda bummed...
My Barlow just arrived and sadly it was a dud. I suppose that happens from time to time with RR. Little to no half stop to speak of with no snap to and from that position. F&F not horrible otherwise but I contacted customer service at SMKW and the fine folks there are rectifying it. Can’t say enough good things about them. Hoping the replacement is up to par because it really is an attractive knife and I want to carry it daily. Hoping no one else received one that slipped by quality control.
Yes, the Damascus bladed ones got a real hammering in the Heinnies reviews, cut like a tennis ball apparently but they were always sold out???? Folks do like a good moan there though. My big no is weak backsprings, it drives me nuts so will probably skip the Barlow but that Copperhead will have to happen, reminds me of the green scaled Marbles Copperhead, very nice.

Man that Barlow is a fine piece! I hope RR will continue to incorporate more bone/wood into their new releases. Getting a little tired of Micarta :/
Thanks Mr.B, micarta has been played out.

They have a tremendous amount of color transition, and that makes them a bit more unique than other imitation stag I've seen.
A great looking series for sure and these 2 are probably my favorite patterns! The coloring on the bone stag is sweet! Thanks TK!!
Yes, not a sodbuster style work knife in the series (yet), but I'd buy one if they made it. I know you like those BigRed.
That Barlow ✅💥💥👏👏- great vid man

very interested in that Barlow! glad to see the "R" bolsters are being phased out!

That's the way it should be, right? Thanks Matt.
I have both, and mine came exceptionally clean. Love both of them. RR quality just keeps getting better and better.
Well good, mine were both pretty nasty. Let us know how you like them gem. Take care.
@@ThriftyKaniffy The Barlow is a real jewel. Stunning quality and finish.
Glad they cleaned up the bolsters , now they should put the master blade on show side and nail nicks on opposing sides.
