That feeling of saying goodbye to story characters after dozens of enjoyable hours spent battling and exploring with them. It's sad, and almost emptying, but one where you know the journey was worth it. I've been looking for a game that gave me this feeling. When I was younger, tales of symphonia and skies of arcadia did this for me. After trying to enjoy a few JRPGs in a row recently (FF7, FF12, Rogue Galaxy), I was starting to lose hope that maybe I just didn't like JRPGs anymore. Enter, Ys 8... Finally, finished the game and I'm sad the journey is over, but very happy with what I played. Fun gameplay, great story that just kept unfolding. Well, she is a concept of reality, her power is understandable since she is the mother, the lifebringer herself, i really hate it when gods and godess of that caliber are potrait as mere powerful alien, and i can asume 2 other, the fire god is total destruction at highest order, and the ocean god as source of evolution
Magnamaster well, lucky for ys universe, she is resonable being and care for her subjects, azazoth will wake up, yarping, and keep on sleeping, and we will turn to oblivion, we are not matter to him anyway
I just completed this game. I got the “Normal” ending. Of course, the True ending is more satisfying. I’m not in the mood now or anytime soon to do the things necessary to have the True ending trigger which is why I watched this video.
only ys that the game i can finished. the gameplay and the story is wholesome and i just know there is the true endingthanks to this channel. overall dana will be not forgotten, its was an epic adventure. i am will be going moving forward to Ys IX
One of the things I absolutely hate is that everyone the whole time going on and on about how they’re a family now, but once they leave in the ship they want nothing to do with anyone. So much for family
I played this game on psn extra and finished it a few days ago. I wanted to play this game for awhile cuz it was reminding me of the good ol days from the 2000s where there were lots of banger animes and life was much simpler before everything went woke. I wasn't disappointed 1 bit. The only criticism I had about the game was there being no guard button so you had to forcefully learn to parry. Although it was easier but a guarding option would make the combat much better. Other than that, this was a solid game. All the characters were likeable and the plot kept on getting deeper and deeper. As a newcomer to the series, I also appreciate that the Ys verse has taken lots of inspirations from real life like the country names (romun for Roman, afroka for Africa, etc.) While still adding it's own things to feel like a real fantasy. The game started out as a simple story of survivability but never expected it would get so deep with revelations back to back. When I got the good ending and realized there's a true ending, I refused to live with it because it felt so incomplete. I went back, raised my reputation, did everything I could and got the true ending to save dana and boy was it worth it. The ending just perfectly concluded the Ys 8 saga for all the characters, the fate of the world, the island and just like I said in the comments below, the very choice words and interaction dana had with adol in the end were too much to just be a "platonic" relation especially with how she said she's gonna watch over him. All in all, she really became the perfect caring housewife for adol that every man wants. This game was so refreshing with the characters. They were all traditionally masculine and feminine and I story that's for the ages. Never was I this invested into a game's characters and plot since pokemon mystery. This game truly is a hidden gem. Dana forever. Considering how hard falcom went into pushing Dana as the new generation female lead of the ys verse plus her relationship with adol that was constantly building throughout the game, here's hoping that she's the 1 he marries when he settles. After putting in all that hard work to make her the next important girl in adol's life, there's no going back
I wonder what would happen if DANA left the island with everyone else. But it wouldn’t change the fact that almost every YS game is based on Adol and Dogi. Ys X, Adol returns to the Seiren lol. For once, Red and Blue two completely different colors look really good.
I thought it would have been a really interesting idea for her to escape but realistically I'm not sure what she could do or how happy her new life would be- she was an important and well loved person in her timeline but in the 'real' world she would be nobody, with only a handful of people in the world who would back up her claims to have come from an ancient civilization and they wouldn't likely stick together once they were home. She probably got the best possible outcome for her charcter, getting to control and prevent the same thing that destroyed her own world from ever happening again unnecessarily, plus by the look of the end credits she also got to reunite with the spirits of her best friends from her era.
@@TyrannosaurusCHEX Totally makes sense yeah. I actually replayed Ys VIII after many years and decided to platinum it, and may or may not have teared from the true ending 😂. I feel like seeing the story and ending again, it really wouldn’t make sense if Dana did leave the island. Like you said, even if she left, she wouldn’t really have anything to do. Everything she has is back at the isle itself rather than a civilization centuries into the future. It was also nice to see her reunite with her friends at the end. The fact that she basically became a new Maia was also pretty sick.
I'm glad the true ending is one you can earn through dilligant attention to the side quests rather then missing single critical parts of the game that hard lock you into the ending - Witcher 3 got me with that and it felt like absolute bullshit when I had done so much work and still got the terrible ending because of two or three dialogue choices made 40 hours earlier!
I got the Normal ending. At least everyone knew what happened and remembered Dana. 70 hours was enough for me, so I decided to watch the true ending here lol. I do think I deserved the true one, but oh well.
@@VirginieLyon He might've played it on Nightmare. That's what I did for my first playthrough, and it took me 68 hours to finish everything and get the platinum.
I will never forget my time with this game. Building memories and friendships with everyone in Castaway Village. Adventuring, getting closer, and exploring and uncovering the secrets of the Isle of Seiren. Learning the fate of the Eternian's and the endless cycle of destruction and evolution. Challenging the very concept of evolution itself, thwarting its plans, and eventually parting ways, with everyone returning to their lives as if it had never happened. If there's one thing I personally took away from this diamond of a game, It's that sometimes the journey is way better than the destination, no matter the situation you're currently in. Love and cherish those closest to you, because everyone walks a different path in life, and yours may not cross forever. So enjoy the time you spend together, and never forget the memories you've shared.
Glad I got the true ending. I am one of those gamers that has to do everything possible before moving on in the story so by the time I got to the finale I had finished everything available.
Just finished the game & now I miss it already, this game is easily the best Falcom game & 1 of the best RPGs ever made. I got the true ending but I want to see what is the bad ending.
Finally finished this game, my first Ys. Now I'm reluctant trying other Ys series, because it's always follow the adventure of Adol, which means I'll have to see all the characters in each games going their separate ways at the end. I don't know if I can do it again man, leaving Dana made my heart aches.
Played this on Stadia. Very heartwarming game. I always wanted to do quests. Unlike in Cyberpunk i just felt objected to do quests but i had to them because of upgrades and good ending options
If you played this game and cyberpunk which one did you think was the most sad ending? People give cyber a hard time because of its bugs but it's actually got a great story with a similar theme of self sacrifice.
@@TyrannosaurusCHEX From my personal gameplay it was this. Both were sad but I was more mad on Cyberpunk because I worked so hard and so long on the game then all I get is my main character dying no matter what. The deaths in Dana made me more sad while the cyberpunk sudden realization it's a sad ending no matter what just made me mad than sad.
Well True ending isn’t that sad compared to Normal ending where we could not see Dana again and much worst for Bad ending Well True ending had two Stories A Good Story and A Drama moment
I get the feeling Dana's quests in the eternian era are neccesary for the true ending, because I completed every quest in the main timeline and still only got the normal ending.
Lol this is why you dont skip the quests 🤣 i felt punished for not doing any of them because i just wanted to know what would happen with the characters i fell in love with and got the bad ending. I am going to play Ys IX and my goal is to get the true ending in my first run
After playing this game for almost 90 hours I am happy that at least I got the normal ending. Oh, I really enjoyed this game too much forma being my first “ys” game, and watching again the ending I got makes me feel confrontable with it.
So is it basically that the goddess is like azazoth from HP Lovecraft considering that if she wakes up the world gets destroyed but then what about the other two gods and or goddesses it said that one of them Still Remains and the other left for Parts Unknown who made them and if she wakes up are they destroyed as well
This is a situation where I actually kind of prefer the Normal ending. It's not entirely happy, but the feeling of knowing Dana sacrificed herself to save her friends is almost more powerful when they can't see her again.
I am late i know sorry for delay i got true ending in my first try and wait for sequel for summer days thanks man i also don't know bad end normal ending so i am here thanks !
thanks for uploading this, although I would of put bad, normal, true in that order but I'm just nitpicking lol. I got the true ending from the get go and was so annoyed when I find out the other two endings were tight to the reputation system.... which is why I came here, if it was like the other games sure I would give another two spins on the game but one playthrough took me 100h. No thanks.
I got curious cause I heard there was a true ending for the game, only to find out I unlocked it without actually intending to do so on my first run. Feels good man.
It's a good unlock system, you just have to actually play the game and care enough to do the additional content to earn the true ending - not like some other RPGs where you get locked into an ending based on seemingly inconsequential desicions in the mid game
I love this game and it's story. It's a masterpiece among low-to-mid budget japanese Action RPGs. It's story is very touching and i love all the characters including Dana. It's one of the best Falcom games. ...As a stand-alone game, that is. It's placement in Ys lore is... is a disaster. It just blatantly ignores Eldeen and all other stuff. The problem is that they made the conflict to have a global scale... without tying to the main Ys plot. Eldeen, Black Pearls, Galbalan, Darm, this is what Ys supposed to... you know, uncover. This game just... simply erases and recreates the world, making the plots of previous games to make no sense. Oh, and by the way, i prefer Ys SEVEN art style. Dogi looked like a real wall-breaker. This new art style is kinda... miss to me. Ys VI-III-Origin art style is still the best in the series.
I'd say it is a masterpiece against any other RPG ever made - it just shows that no amount of flash graphics can substitute for a compelling story and great charcters
I just managed to get the True Ending on my first go around. I thought that I didn't get a high enough approval rating but I guess I was wrong. Didn't even realize their was a Bad ending until stumbling upon this video.
So happy u got the true ending and didn't realize it haha, literally just beat the game 10 mins ago. I'm not sure how to do post game? I'm assuming I load from final battle of chapter six?
Man I read a guide that said 150 reputation to get the true ending but I was playing on the Switch and I didn't know there were different requirements for each system.. When I got to 150 I relaxed and although I got more after that obviously, I still didn't have enough and got the damn normal ending. -.- I put nearly 60 hours into this great game and tried SO HARD to get the True Ending but nope.. Makes me sad lol I'm glad this video exists though, it's way better than the ending I got :/ Edit: Turns out I had 197 points!!! I was SO close to the true ending :( It's so unfair lol
lol a made the same, first was cold steel 1, then 2, then xanadu, and now this. Whats your next ? I cant wait for cold steel 3 in march. I will try to replay the 2 before the launch.
@@ric_reborn I actually picked up CS3 and I'm wrapping up CS2. Hopefully we can get a confirmation on CS4's western release. If not that, then I'm going for Ys: IX

Flash guard and Evasion in this game is stupidly powerful. No attack is unblockable, you could stand still in a boss battle without taking damage with only flash guard timing skill(flash guard is easier to timing than Evasion) , dealing respectable amout of damage and your char also immune to any damage during flash guard and evasion effect, AND you could reset/overlap these effect during the time the effect still on by flash guard/evasion again even if enemies' attack were already touched you(because you can't take damage so it count as a success dodge/guard). Which mean any kind of charge/stupid spining/bullet hell/projectile/slow aoe attack and free-for-all fight with stupid amout of enemies will make you invincible .I love this game, lol. I highly recommend play it on hard mode.
It's a strong ability for sure but the timings of different enemy attacks are inconsistent so you can't just spam it out and be safe (plus you can't cancel your own abilities once activated and you often take hits during that time)
I didnt bother getting the true ending due to my ps vita aging.. and I went for an easy mode for 55hrs total lol trying to be careful smashing my buttons, but I'm just after for the story so watching the true ending is still worth it
It's probably really hard to get, you have to pretty much speedrun main quests only. I played on Nightmare and can't imagine being way underleveled from not doing sidequests lol
So is it basically that the goddess is like azazoth from HP Lovecraft considering that if she wakes up the world gets destroyed but then what about the other two gods and or goddesses it said that one of them Still Remains and the other left for Parts Unknown who made them and if she wakes up are they destroyed as well
I wish the writers came up with something different instead of what we got regarding Dana. I've grown so attached to Dana that I hoped she would leave the island with everyone else. But noooooope. Now we'll never see her again. *cries*
One thing that might make you feel a little better about Dana and her fate is that she wouldn't really have much of a life if she did get to leave the island - the castaway village members would all disperse back to their normal lives and she would be alone in a world she knew nothing about and had gone from being an important and well respected public figure to a nobody who only a few people alive would even be able to understand. Only possible alternative endings for her would be to maybe be able to go back in time and avert the catastrophe in her world so she could live out her days there in peace (kind of surprised they didn't go with that one actually) or to maybe have her get romantically involved with adol so there was a good reason for her to leave the island and some sort of support network for her in the new life (though I don't know if adol is really ready to settle down yet, or that she would really want a life of adventuring). Given all that, she probably got the best possible ending she could have - being able to care for the entire world by preventing the same tragedy from ever happening again, and I feel like that is something that would make her truly happy (plus looking at the end credits she got to see her two best friends again in the afterlife)
I would have been pissed of I got the bad ending lol. This was really good. Dana is one of my favorite characters in a JRPG. Everything that happened to her was so depressing. Even after becoming a goddess it felt sad. I really wanted Dana and Adol to end up together.
She's not dead at least, adol still has his chance to see her again one day (and she likes to sneak away from work as a mortal so you can believe that she might do the same as a goddess)
Got the bad ending, which is not a satisfying ending it's too abrupt. That's my biggest pet peeve with multiple ending games when not all the endings work in their own right. There was no indication that side quests determine the ending results, which games like the modern Personas will warn you of. Besides that great game and I can just watch the scenes on RUclips!
I just beat this game and I have no idea how I got the true ending. I didn't explore 100% of the island, I left several quest undone, i didn't finish all the raids and hunts.
Oh my god. I knew that there are three endings, but I wanted to know All without playing it again. I had the true ending. After watching normal and Bad... If I had had the Bad one I would have been disappointed After so many hours 😳 honestly. I don't have 100%, I'm missing four gallery Pictures of approval but okay... Great Game. Now I can start Xenoblade chronicles 😁
Same, but I need there were different ending. I thought I got the bad one when no one remembered Danna. But I got the true one. Steam has it's summer sale, and now I'm going to play through all the Ys games. Starting with 1&2

That was my first play through too, I was depressed after getting the bad ending. It wasn't until sometime later that I found out there were 3 total endings.
So if Maia creates life, helps govern evolution through her machinations, presumably has any power linked to the Great Tree of Origins, and brings the world, arguably the universe depending on your interpretation, into existence, what do the other two gods on her level do that is anywhere near as significant as her? I mean I can see the sky god having to do with everything beyond earth, being a conductor of the cosmic forces and laws of the universe, but what in the world would the ocean god govern if their realm of influence is lost when Maia awakens to begin with?
Lol, good question! Maybe the ocean god created life in the first place, then the Earth god took over to shape that life? From what Hydra said it seems like the great tree could have been relatively new to his species.

I just finished it's today i'm glad i got True ending the goodbye give me a good cry..... man this game is really good
Thanks for posting true endin ! I got normal ending ... great story 👍
only ys that the game i can finished. the gameplay and the story is wholesome and i just know there is the true endingthanks to this channel. overall dana will be not forgotten, its was an epic adventure.
i am will be going moving forward to Ys IX
Fucking cried on that true ending. Dammit I loved this story…
This game is a gem
A masterpice
I enjoyed it sooo much
I was so sad that i beat it
Litterally did not want it to end :(
So true, almost every single Falcom game gave me this feeling, I hope they'll keep the good work in the future. Can't wait to play Ys 9 now !
just finished it; was randomly gifted it for xmas by a friend on steam and i absolutely loved every minute of it.
I really believe Dana should re-unite with Adol in one of the next installments!
You can tell their love is strong...
Im hoping and praying for it
@@bigpoppa1349 knowing who the other goddesses are (Ys2 spoilers I guess), Adol may meet them again
...na, Adol has no Luck with Blue Haired Girls. Will probaly lost her on his next Voyage :p
After putting in all that hard work to make her the next important girl in adol's life, there's no going back
After 149 hours (almost three years) I finished the game in inferno mode, getting the true ending, glad i save those glasses to the final boss
Loved the game, I always feel sad and empty after I'm done with a game...
Got the True ending thankfully
Sadly, the company that makes Ys went bankrupt :(
Romi Bonny please tell me this ain’t true!! COME ONE!
@@colin-kun3611 don't worry, they're releasing Ys 9. It was a fake news the bankruptcy thing. Sorry.
Romi Bonny phew! thanks mate.
Also ys iv is being remastered and released (memories of celcetta) and will be out for ps4 and pc this year
Im glad I found the True ending instead of those other ending. Would've really bummed me out all day if they just didn't see Dana one last time...
Matt Fox
I’ve also beat the game with 70+Hrs and i got the True ending 😊
I finished in 45 hours with the true ending on Switch. Certainly fun times.
Finished the game within 25 hours, got normal ending
@@VirginieLyon He might've played it on Nightmare. That's what I did for my first playthrough, and it took me 68 hours to finish everything and get the platinum.
I'm finished in 65 hours playing time...
so ... nobody going to talk about what happen to paro?
Yeah, i'd like to know as well
I will never forget my time with this game.
The thumbnail actually make me thinking about Olga, and it make me even sadder... :( I wonder what happened to her in the new timeline...
The end credits show Olga, Dana and sarai together so it is probable that she brought Olga back from the dead to help her with her new Goddess work.
You own a STADIA!? wow.....now that's a rare console.

@@godhero2566 what?
If you played this game and cyberpunk which one did you think was the most sad ending? People give cyber a hard time because of its bugs but it's actually got a great story with a similar theme of self sacrifice.
@@TyrannosaurusCHEX From my personal gameplay it was this. Both were sad but I was more mad on Cyberpunk because I worked so hard and so long on the game then all I get is my main character dying no matter what. The deaths in Dana made me more sad while the cyberpunk sudden realization it's a sad ending no matter what just made me mad than sad.
Well True ending isn’t that sad compared to Normal ending where we could not see Dana again and much worst for Bad ending
Well True ending had two Stories
A Good Story and A Drama moment
True ending is still sad. Lol.
What on earth !!? That bad ending is DEPRESSING 😢
What a mysterious and amazing game
I get the feeling Dana's quests in the eternian era are neccesary for the true ending, because I completed every quest in the main timeline and still only got the normal ending.
i guess since i completed all her era quest and
got the true ending.
somehow it's still sad to see her say goodbye.
You dont have to finish dana quest tho to get true ending..but gotta say, the sidequest of dana is really mind blowing if you play it to the end
What a journey this game was
OMG the bad ending is really bad lol. And the true ending is what I expected to see. I got the normal ending.
Finished the game in 40+ hours of gameplay and got true ending. so happy i finally get to play this masterpiece after wanting to play it for years
So much feel for the game, took me more than 50hrs of normal mode to have true ending (225 points), i am looking forward to the sequel
It's out in Japan hopefully a western release is coming soon. It's much darker in tone than this game.
I feel so empty ahhh
Lol this is why you dont skip the quests 🤣 i felt punished for not doing any of them because i just wanted to know what would happen with the characters i fell in love with and got the bad ending. I am going to play Ys IX and my goal is to get the true ending in my first run
In Ys IX is just one ending.
80+ hours of gameplay, and I'm so glad I got the true ending on the first go. It had me in tears with the final image of Dana. ;-;
After playing this game for almost 90 hours I am happy that at least I got the normal ending.
Oh, I really enjoyed this game too much forma being my first “ys” game, and watching again the ending I got makes me feel confrontable with it.
That true boss pissed me of but true ending was totally worth it compared to normal and bad endings I watched now;)
I m happy I got the true ending as the quest is really enjoyable completing
So is it basically that the goddess is like azazoth from HP Lovecraft considering that if she wakes up the world gets destroyed but then what about the other two gods and or goddesses it said that one of them Still Remains and the other left for Parts Unknown who made them and if she wakes up are they destroyed as well
This is a situation where I actually kind of prefer the Normal ending. It's not entirely happy, but the feeling of knowing Dana sacrificed herself to save her friends is almost more powerful when they can't see her again.
I'm glad I got the true ending on my first playthrough!
No thanks.
A future game Adol should become a God and Dana should show up to greet him. Also pray to her in the future games for help in fights.
Please help. I just finished valley of kings with 1 bulleten quest having 61 rep. Can I still reach 150 rep.?
I find it ironic no one remembered Dana considering her voice actress also voiced Rem from Re:Zero. "Who is Rem?"
Also Hu Tao from Genshin, "Who Tao?"
182 reputation, got the normal ending... pretth dissapointed after watching how beatiful the true one is
I guess I’ve never been much of a completionist... Bad ending for me:( Thanks for posting all of the endings tho
Glad I got true ending on my first run.
What's the next best ys game ?
I'd say it is a masterpiece against any other RPG ever made - it just shows that no amount of flash graphics can substitute for a compelling story and great charcters
I just managed to get the True Ending on my first go around. I thought that I didn't get a high enough approval rating but I guess I was wrong. Didn't even realize their was a Bad ending until stumbling upon this video.
don't know what triggers normal n bad ending huh
So happy u got the true ending and didn't realize it haha, literally just beat the game 10 mins ago. I'm not sure how to do post game? I'm assuming I load from final battle of chapter six?
Man I read a guide that said 150 reputation to get the true ending but I was playing on the Switch and I didn't know there were different requirements for each system.. When I got to 150 I relaxed and although I got more after that obviously, I still didn't have enough and got the damn normal ending. -.-
I put nearly 60 hours into this great game and tried SO HARD to get the True Ending but nope.. Makes me sad lol I'm glad this video exists though, it's way better than the ending I got :/
Edit: Turns out I had 197 points!!! I was SO close to the true ending :( It's so unfair lol
Wow! I had 45 hours on Switch and clocked in at just over 250 rep.
Got the true ending in ~50 hours on hard because I obsessively do side-quests.
Falcom, you've hooked me. First it was Cold Steel, Tokyo Xanadu, and now this.
lol a made the same, first was cold steel 1, then 2, then xanadu, and now this.
Yo!! Tokyo Xanadu very nice. I love that game, even though it is super obscure.
@@ric_reborn play the previous Arc before the Erebonian Arc which is the Sky Trilogy and the Crossbell Duology, Sky Trilogy and Crossbell Duology is better than Cold steel in terms of story imo
@@HIIIMM2 dont know if I can, the history made me interested but, the the old school gameplay, don't know if I will enjoy, maybe in a steam sale I check it out. thanks
It's a strong ability for sure but the timings of different enemy attacks are inconsistent so you can't just spam it out and be safe (plus you can't cancel your own abilities once activated and you often take hits during that time)
I keep getting the true ending is there any specific way to get the other endings???
I didnt bother getting the true ending due to my ps vita aging.. and I went for an easy mode for 55hrs total lol trying to be careful smashing my buttons, but I'm just after for the story so watching the true ending is still worth it
Do you get a normal ending? I only got the true and bad ending
this game has a bad ending!? guess you learn something new every day.
It would be *"scary" and "filled with disappointment"* if you got the bad one😥😥
It's probably really hard to get, you have to pretty much speedrun main quests only. I played on Nightmare and can't imagine being way underleveled from not doing sidequests lol
I never knew there was a normal and a bad ending.
I think it might be more tied to NPC affinity than to side quests. I didn't finish all the raids either and got the true ending.
I’m crying rn😕😕
Just finished the game....
Feel empty as heck....
How much reputation needs to get the true end on PC version?
150+ but make it to 200 just to be sure
Got the True ending on first try:0 even tho I failed 2 quest, was hoping Dana be coming with us on ship sadly:( aww.
But I got the true one.

i got the true ending, but all the ending make me sad
Jrt Mdfk it may make us sad but on the upside, Dana is a friggin goddess now so that’s a lil ace up the sleeve of Adol if she ever appears again

Oh, better idea: phyches are as water in Seren Garden; maybe the ocean god rules over the spiritual side of life while the earth god handles physical?
atleast i did'nt get the bad ending
Oof got bad ending
