Great episode. Left school in 1985 and went to college in 1986 so a great time for me. Saw Metallica in September 1986 with Anthrax at Newcastle Mayfair and also saw Dio at the City Hall in May and WASP in October. Would be good to do 1987 too. Great memories thanks for sharing !!.
Another great year in heavy metal. 2 of my picks made your top 5 and 3 did not even make your honourable mentions 1. King Diamond - Fatal Portrait 2. Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time 3. Metallica - Master of Puppets 4. Sacred Blade - Of the Sun + Moon 5. Tony MacAlpine - Edge of Insanity Keep up the great work. Looking forward to 1987
What a year for music. From your final twelve, I have to say, Jammo got it spot on. I would have the same three. I have so much nostalgia regarding the Maiden release as it was my favourite band and first ever gig on that tour. I mentioned before, made the video for SIASL filmed at Sheffield.
Excellent year, really enjoyed the episode. My favourite Maiden song with Stranger In A Strange Land and Bon Jovi with Wanted Dead Or Alive, which will be played at my funeral. Saw Ozzy four times in 1986 and the brilliant Killer Of Giants, anyone remember The Tube rock special in 1986? with Ozzy singing three "live" songs? The year I started to roadie for Elixir so Son Of Odin right up there with Chariot too.
Hello Rockers My List: 1. Tesla, Mechanical Resonanz 2. Malice, Licence to Kill 3. Racer X, Street Lethal 4. Queensryche, Rage for Order 5.Ratt, Dancing under Cover 6. Maiden, Somewhere in Time 7. Van Halen, 5150 Cheers
Another great episode guys. For me, you really catch the zeitgeist of the era! It's interesting, because around 85/86 was definitely the time that I swung much more heavily towards thrash - and what a year 86 was!!!. Thing is though, in 86 I saw AC/DC, Motley Crue, Ozzy, Dio, Maiden, Saxon & Magnum so I still had a foot in the old school metal camp! I even bought Slippery When Wet when it first came out! But seeing Metallica & Anthrax was the stand out gig for me this year and still my favourite gig that I've ever attended, for a whole host of reasons. I loved that Tesla album too! Also agree with Dyl that Peace Sells is still the best Megadeth album. I know people rave about the Marty Friedman era stuff but I don't think it touches Peace Sells. Also, yeah, Wake Up Dead, what a song! We used to cover that in our teenage thrash band! Was lucky enough to catch Megadeth in 87 at the Leeds Queens Hall show. What a gig/line up that was - only spoiled by the fact that Voi Vod were held back at customs and couldn't play.
Good show and what a great year for albums. Somewhere in Time is number one for me, loved seeing Alexander the Great on the most recent Maiden tour, what a song.
Marvellous again fellas. Gappy made it easy for me. His top three is my Top three. Saw Metallica on the Master Of Puppets tour at Hammersmith, 21st September 1986 with Anthrax as support and it was life changing.I've still got the bootlegs of both sets. WHAT. A. NIGHT. Master Of Puppets is the greatest album of all time. Five days later Cliff Burton was dead and I was devastated.
Another fantastic podcast. Slippery When Wet and The Final Countdown were my rabbit holes into the genre. Master..., Reign and Peace, well, what's to say that hasn't been said? Kind of Magic had its moments. Right about Ultimate Sin, not the best from Ozzy. Somewhere in Time? No argument from me. As for Treat or Treat, both album and movie are due a reissue. Albums not mentioned Kreator - Pleasure to Kill Husker Du - Candy Apple Grey Beastie Boys - Licence to ill.
@@gavmetcalfe another album that I forgot to mention was Doomsday for the Deceiver by Flotsam and Jetsam, featuring Jason Newsted, and of course, we all know what happened to him.
Lastly, I absolutely love Vigilante by Magnum. It now sounds dated to that mid eighties digital sound. It was as if they wanted to make an up to date .modern sounding album and they threw every single digital effect at it to achieve this. Listening to it now that has the potential to make it sound awful were it not for the fact that it's packed with great songs. Tony Clarkin, rest in peace.
Can't argue with the top 5. VH and DLR that was summer wrapped up in 2 albums. Best of Both Worlds was EVH trying to write an AC/DC song. Magnum album has dated horribly, can't believe you missed Rage for Order though.
1. Metallica - Master of Puppets 2. Queensryche - Rage for Order 3. Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time 4. Megadeth - Peace Sells But Who's Buying? 5. Accept - Russian Roulette 6. Ozzy Osbourne - The Ultimate Sin 7. Samhain - III: November-Coming-Fire 8. Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory 9. Fates Warning - Awaken The Guardian 10. Cirith Ungol - One Foot In Hell 11. Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus 12. King Diamond - Fatal Portrait 13. Slayer - Reign In Blood 14. Black Sabbath - Seventh Star 15. Misfits - Misfits 16. Judas Priest - Turbo 17. Van Halen - 5150 18. Jack Starr's Burning Starr - No Turning Back 19. Racer X - Street Lethal 20. Sword - Metalized 21. Ratt - Dancing Undercover 22. Satan - Into The Future 23. Boston - Third Stage 24. Savatage - Fight for The Rock 25. Saxon - Rock The Nations
Bon Jovi brought birds to rock. GOD BLESS THEM! Gav? Dreadful choices dude 😂😂😂. MOP is probably the best metal album of all time. Dylan - MECHANICAL RESONANCE- awesome album & band. Saw them supporting leppard on the first 2 days of the hysteria tour at the Ulster Hall. They were great. Eat em and Smile. AWESOME! Dylan loved Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth but liking them was a ticket to celibacy, so cowboy boots it was then dude… my suggestion for an omission would be Stryper - To hell with the devil. Great album. They’re still going way stronger than most today. Must be the clean living!
Another great
Another classic year in rock, can't wait to watch this one lads! 🤘

Enjoyed that guys. I recall Little Angels supporting Cinderella on the ' Long Cold Winter ' tour at Bradford St George's Hall but that was 1988 ....
I think that’s right tbf

We missed the Metallica / Anthrax tour and we don’t know why!! Some friends went and echo your thoughts!!

That was the gig. Sadly none of us made that one

We discussed Beastie Boys but deemed not rock enough! 😂. Thanks for sharing your thoughts-we really appreciate it 🤘

@@talesfromthepowerage 😂😂😂 like can I talk? I suggested Stryper.,,
Worthy honorable mention with Stryper on the Music For Nations label too.
All true 😃
