This song was based on the 18th century composition by Christian Petzold "Minuet in G major" ...There are other artists as well who have took some of these old compositions and re-arranged them into pop hits..This is one of the first songs i can consciously remember being on the radio as a little kid..
So glad you reacted to this song and liked it. Barbara Harris, the lead singer, is married to my cousin! Believe it or not she still performs but mostly at convalescent homes where the people there still remember her lol! It is truly a classic song, many artists have done this including Diana Ross but I think Barbara and the Toys did it best!
For many years this work, the Minuet in G Major was attributed to J. S. Bach, but in 1970 this very popular work it was discovered to actually have been composed by Christian Petzold.
Legends - ♥. I'm rich bc I grew up hearing this kind of art on radio. In 1967-1968, first time I heard this song, as a child, the lead vocals went right thru me. Great pop song.
I'm just weird! Every time I've heard this song over the decades, it's a happy sounding song, but brings me to emotional tears when I hear it! Just beautiful music, lyrics, and vocals!
Love this song! 1965 was a great year for music. “Pushin’ Too Hard,” by The Seeds, “1-2-3” by Len Barry, “Yes I’m Ready” by Barbara Mason, “What the World Needs Now” by Jackie DeShannon, “You Were on My Mind” by We Five, “Lies” by The Knickerbockers, and “Keep on Dancing” by The Gentrys, just for starters. There were also great songs by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Yardbirds, The Byrds, The Hollies, and The Beau Brummels.
My God I just had a time traveling experience because 1965 was the year I came ALIVE. The memories oh my goodness the memories and those songs you mentioned sealed it.
One of the last major hits of the original girl-group era, the song's writers came up with a clever gimmick, borrowing the melody of the familiar classical piece “Minuet in G Major”.
Its fascinating how 18th century Classical music was applied to modern day music in 1965 with this beautiful masterpiece. While the British Invasion were dominating the charts, The Toys still landed on the No. 2 spot behind The Beatles 'Yesterday'. 'A Lover's Concerto' would go on selling over two million copies. I wonder if Johann Sebastian Bach's family got a piece of that pie........
In 1984, a film called 'Electric Dreams' was released. Giorgio Moroder did an instrumental and called it 'The Duel' (based upon the classical piece Minuet in G major)
Based on the J.S. Bach Minuet in G Major. A lot of modern day composers stole from the great Classical composer because there is no copy right. LOL Manilow stole Chopin for Could it be Magic and Eric Carmen stole 2 of Rachmaninoff's melodies for All by myself and Never gonna fall in Love again. Timeless melodies.
Well, isn't that GREAT that there is no copy right on Classical music? That keeps this music ALIVE forever, while copy right music staying forever BURIED ALIVE, as nobody dares to even perform it, afraid of getting sued for infringing possible copy rights: Very SAD for their CREATORS and their possible pupils and audiences. One should therefore FREE all ARTS and other things of use for mankind from such BUSINESS FETTERS at least after the death of their creators.
ELO and Olivia Newton John did the music for the movie "Xanadu" which stared Olivia as a muse from Greek mythology to inspire a developer to turn an aging venue into a modern disco. There are 2 great songs from it. "Magic" and the title song "Xanadu"
Nice choice here, Angela. Some classical adaptations don't work but this one has held up well over the years. Can't go wrong with that sweetly sung melody. I liked it then and I like it now.
The intro very much reminds me of the Supremes "Back In Your Arms Again" which was released a few months before this in 1965. Not sure if it was copied or just the style back then. I have always liked this song. I remember it was referenced in a 90s movie I saw about a music teacher in the 60s.
If you ever do another round of "guilty pleasures" songs, i'd love to see you do The Monkees "Daily Nightly" or "Early Morning Blues and Greens", thanks, love your channel.
maybe consider giving a reaction to: Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds- Falling in Love. Also, a beautiful instrumental love song by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra: Loves Theme
Young lady many of us who grew up when songs like this were out were much too young to make the connection of it to a romance. I remember hearing this and was more enamored with the beautiful singers all decked out on the Ed Sullivan Show where The Supremes had already captured our attention with their classy looks and sultry voices. Too young to fall in love but not to listen.
Try out "Leader of the Band" by Don Fogelberg. I think it would fit well into the seventies groove you have in a lot of your videos. One of those musicians that you are really just kind of shocked to hear the voice that comes out of the mouth.
Hey beautiful Angela. I would love for you to react to Which Way You Goin' Billy by the Poppy Family. The group's singer Susan Jacks recently passed away.
Minuet in G major..Originally thought to be an original composition by Bach, it has, since 1970, been discovered to be the work of Christian Petzold.
An all time classic, still sounds as good today as it did back in the mid 1960s when it was out. Love it.
I was like 7. And loved it then and still do. Beautiful song

Yes this is the best version, I love it - still often listen to it even now
❤
My sister took piano lesson when we were kids. After years of hearing it, that music is based on "Minuet in G major".
For many years this work, the Minuet in G Major was attributed to J. S. Bach, but in 1970 this very popular work it was discovered to actually have been composed by Christian Petzold.

Good examples, I could add dozens more. The Beau Brummels - I'm impressed. You know your 1965!
My God I just had a time traveling experience because 1965 was the year I came ALIVE. The memories oh my goodness the memories and those songs you mentioned sealed it.
love this song
What makes this song so valid is that it’s a Motown soul song whose base is a classical tune that’s been popular since the 1600’s.
This was a monster hit back in the day, and their best song. Another hit of theirs was Attack! SUPER. Well worth your reaction.
This song is addicting....a true classic
Thanks for letting us watch.
Nice song!! Haven’t heard it in years! Thanks!
one of my favorite all time song , i glad you liked it as well ..
Love love this song. It's on my playlist

What a choice!!
One of my all time faves.

Awesome Cape Town South Africa
Fantastic song. You should also do "Party Lights" by Claudine Clark.

Also Billy Joel used Beethoven's "Pathetique Sonata" as the chorus for his song "This Night (Will Last Forever)."
Not by Bach but by Christian Petzold.
@@Vinterfrid Bach is credited for the Minuet in G Major. with Petzold in parenthesis.

Gonna keep requesting Gallery - It's So Nice to be With you.

A classical song with an intentional Motown beat. It worked.
@0:27 you appear to have a WTF is this moment.... but within the 1st couple of Lines, you react favorably to it. It is Great Song

Great, great pick for DayOne. And of course Angela picked up on the use of continually higher key changes which add so much to the song..
Johann Sebastian Bach is my favorite composer.
He was indeed a great composer, but not of this tune though.
If you ever do another round of "guilty pleasures" songs, i'd love to see you do The Monkees "Daily Nightly" or "Early Morning Blues and Greens", thanks, love your channel.

How did you happen upon this? Another hidden treasure.

Now you need to listen to Band of Gold by Freda Payne.
This is a song where the title is not even mentioned in the lyrics
