Oh for cryin' out loud... I've owned a number of Kreg jigs for a couple years, and in about 4 minutes, I learned more about them here than I did the entire time I owned them! Dang... I love this channel.
Glad Kreg continue to support WWMM. It's a no brainer. Ive started binge watching old videos and have my K4 on order thanks to videos from before they became a real sponsor. Steve's genuine love and demos of the product sells it well.
Ha! I've had the smaller pocket hole kit from Kreg for many years (and just love it!) and had no idea I could store the bits in the bottom. I am DENSE. Thanks for the tips.
Another helpful tip that I learned from an old school carpenter years ago is that sometimes even if you drill a pilot hole in hardwoods it will still split sometimes. An easy fix to that problem is to have a candle or a bar of soap handy to lube the threads of the screw. I've never split a piece of wood doing that!! Great video Steve!!
I took an entire semester of wood working in 7th grade, got a back scratcher out of that. I have learned more from your videos then that entire semester way back when in middles school.
Thank uou so much for this channel. As a new weekend wood-hacker, your tips & tricks are invaluable! Real quick, I'm trying to sort this this pocket hole thing out. Another video I watched, said once your peices are glued and set, to remove the pocket hole screws, as they are no longer needed and can be reused. I found this surprising, as it seemed like a lot of work to simply use pocket holes as clamps while the glue sets.
Thanks for helping me get started in woodworking! I just made a shooting range target stand! Very simple with a crude result, but it’s the first thing I’ve made from wood and look forward to making more (and of better quality than the shooting stand)!
Hola Steve, ese golpe en la uña de tu pulgar izquierdo es una demostración de tu trabajo, ¡gracias por tan instructivo vídeo! ¡Internet es una hermosa herramienta!
I had a job interview at Kreg recently in Huxley, IA. It seemed like a really cool place. I even got to see the factory floor where the stuff was made. The interviewer was surprised at how much Kreg stuff I was able to recognize. They make really good products and really seem to have a good atmosphere in their factories. Anyway, thanks for the video. I picked up some cool tips.
You put the answer in the thumbnail. I love that. Wasn't looking for this video or thinking about this topic but I learned something just by seeing the title and thumbnail.
Great info and from the comments Kreg might improve their package instructions to include more about the hidden features. I just discovered a hidden compartment on a used sewing machine I purchased and was happier than a pig in a puddle on a hot summer day. Great info about the reasoning for different screws in pine vs. hardwoods, too. Thank you, Steve. Kreg should hire you to do tv commercials during this winter holiday time since you already have a bazillion international fans online.
I just have the little two-hole clamp-on jig from them. It works really well but is kind of a pain to hold in position while I hold the workpiece and get a clamp on it with only two hands. I'd really like to get one of those bigger ones someday. I enjoy your videos, Steve. Someday I'd like to have the tools and time to learn more advanced joinery, but for now, thanks for making woodworking accessible to us relative newbies!
I am stoked! Waiting for the Kreg 320 and the K5master to arrive in the mail.Feel like a kid who can't sleep Christmas eve .Hubby say 's you'd better good use out of those things. Hahah
I just have the little 20 dollar pocket hole Kreg jig. I got it thinking I wouldn’t use it all the time, but I do. Pocket holes have made a ton of my projects a lot easier, and I love Kregs stuff.
I like the way that you said there are things that we might not know about. Usually videos are worded in a way that makes you feel like the video maker thinks you're stupid, like " things that you never knew existed ".
Hey Steve, your channel is ace and inspired me to design and build a shed for my BBQ. I never got round to putting doors on it as... well it works alright without them. Keep up the good work.
Hi Steve, again a fine video from you. Thanks for that. Your videos inspired me a lot in my descission to spend more time in my "shop". I also would like to thank you for pointing me to the Kreg tools. I recently purchased the K5, a whole bunch of screws and some Bench Clamps with the Automaxx technology. As a beginning woodworker I just love those things. Keep up the good work and greetings from Belgium!
Great Video Steve! Really appreciate all of your videos, I recently got much more involved in woodworking and your channel has been a huge help in building my confidence and sparking some project ideas. I made some really nice wood working projects for my family this year and I'm more excited about Christmas than I have been in years because of it!
Have you experienced tear out along the sides of the pocket holes in soft woods? If so what is causing that? How can I avoid it? I can sand afterwards but trying to get crisper pocket holes. I'm working with pine and MDF.
Is that little gray block the Micro jig for the kreg pocket hole system? My ACS 3000 system arrived today. I am not so keen over the blue plastic but I will say my other Kreg jigs have held up surprisingly well.
I for one would like to thank Kreg for sponsoring Steve, I really like how he teaches. Most of the time when I watch his vids I kinda go "Hmm, I didn't know that"
another side benefit of the vacuum is is cools the drill bit very fast. lot of cool air going past the bit as it goes through the material. If you need to do many pocket holes in a project. Get the K5, it becomes a serious time saver. I built a bed with the smallest one and it added hours to the project due to moving it all the time.
The only reason why I haven't upgraded from the k4 to the k5 is because I've heard mixed reviews regarding the screw that holds the depth adjustment on the jig in place. On the k4 the depth adjustment is held in place by a brass screw but I've heard it was a different design on the k5 and that it doesn't hold it securely which results in slippage and too deep of holes... Do you have any experience or knowledge on this? Thanks
You are probably driving the screws in too fast or with a lot of torque. You can use the clutch on your drill to stop before the screw gets too tight. Or, what I like to do, drill the screws in most of the way, then use a hand-screwdriver to tighten them.
Great video. But I am surprised no one has done a video yet on using "just the jig" to fix existing furniture on tight spots that is hard for the entire base to use.
Mines nearly 20 years old, would the same bit storage be true? If so, I greatly appreciate your help, that's amazing information that I've yet to notice! The 2x4 extension, and vacuum attachment, however, I don't think are options for the design. Regardless, I want to thank you for all of the useful content you provide, and Happy to learn of the sponsorship! Congratulations.
Another great video....I have a Kreg 1 (don't know the number but I know it is not a 4). I just wish Kreg had some sort of trade-in program so I could upgrade to a K5.
I love the dust port on my Kreg K5 ig *except* that it constantly pops off with the slights resistance on my vacuum hose. It's really quite annoying but I put up with it because the shavings are more annoying.
Clearly I never read my manual b/c I didn't know about the little gray stop block. Oops! Didn't know about the under storage, but since mine is always mounted to a board I don't get to take advantage of that. Thankfully I splurged for the K5 so everything is stored there. Thanks for the info & tips!
All nice if you own a K5 but only one mention of the K4. Glad to hear they got the height right on the K%, for supports for the K$ I have to use a double thickness of 5/8 OSB.
Any tips on joining 1/2-in plywood together with pocket holes? I've read tons of comments saying people do it all the time and have seen videos of people making 1/2-in ply drawer boxes with them, but no matter how many times I try, it never works.
I did not know the bit storage was under the K4 jig. Neither did I know there was a place to store the allen wrench. I glued a magnet inside my storage box to hold the wrench. Thanks for the info!
Question; Even with the Vacuum attachment in place and my shop-vac running, each time I drill, the bit comes out with the wood shavings packed into the grooves of the drill bit and I need to clean it out before i can drill the next hole. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?
Does it happen in all types of wood? Is there enough suction from the shop vac (i.e. doesn't need to be cleaned)? I've had a little "pop out" when pulling out the drill on occasion, but never stuck in the grooves like that.
Always informative videos, thanks. I have a k4 still in it's box that I haven't been able to get around to using yet. 😒 Think I will check it out real soon lol
if you only need a handful of long, fine thread screws you can make them self tapping using a (drill press) vice and a file. Or you can use the matthias wandel method with a grinder. Probably could find some on ebay though, I always get my screws in bulk from there
Oh for cryin' out loud... I've owned a number of Kreg jigs for a couple years, and in about 4 minutes, I learned more about them here than I did the entire time I owned them! Dang... I love this channel.

Ha! I've had the smaller pocket hole kit from Kreg for many years (and just love it!) and had no idea I could store the bits in the bottom. I am DENSE. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you for making a clickbait title question but then putting the answer to the question in the thumbnail! Fantastic.

I've never split a piece of wood doing that!!
Great video Steve!!
A Bar of soap also works well too!
Steve you by far have been the best educator on wood working. Thank you for everything you do and post. You are awesome
I took an entire semester of wood working in 7th grade, got a back scratcher out of that.
I have learned more from your videos then that entire semester way back when in middles school.
Well thank you!
I looooove the to-the-point captions in your thumbnails! Thanks for being the least clickbaity person on RUclips.
My most faviourite wood working channel !!
Thank uou so much for this channel. As a new weekend wood-hacker, your tips & tricks are invaluable!

What the HELL!!!! I didn't know my K4 had a place for the drill bit and driver below. Thanks Steve.
You are not alone....lol
Frank Allison i'm surprised Kreg would not share that info on the packaging.
My first thought exactly! Missing a selling point for such a small amount of print and maybe a picture.
I knew about the bit and driver, but could never figure out what to do with the allen key!
I've had my K4 for about 18 months, and this video is how I found it too.. wtf!
I just have the little two-hole clamp-on jig from them. It works really well but is kind of a pain to hold in position while I hold the workpiece and get a clamp on it with only two hands. I love the anti-clickbait thumbnail!
I've always loved your approach to woodworking. Keep it simple and where anyone can do it.
Thanks Jarod!
@@SteveRamsey - I've been watching your channel for 6+ years. I think the tea light candle holder with 3 candles was the first video of yours I saw.
And there you have it. All VERY useful information from WWMM. Thanks Steve
I am stoked! Waiting for the Kreg 320 and the K5master to arrive in the mail.Feel like a kid who can't sleep Christmas eve .Hubby say 's you'd better good use out of those things. Hahah

Kreg has very useful jigs and accessories. But, they're very expensive in my country. Thank you for sharing. Thanks to Kreg for sponsoring the show.

How much did it cost
Outstanding instruction is hard to find, thank you for providing that here.
Great video. You really do have a way of conveying a long message in a short time. Cheers.
I have the k4 and did not know about the underneath storage. Awesome. Thanks Steve!

Have a K5... and I've built a lot of stuff with it. Still learned something new.
I love my K5. I have not yet needed the stop block but I might try it now
A great video jammed packed with so much information. You rock Steve.
Thanks for more great information Steve. This weekend I’m building your rolling lumber storage cart. Can’t wait to get organized.
Have you experienced tear out along the sides of the pocket holes in soft woods? If so what is causing that? How can I avoid it? I can sand afterwards but trying to get crisper pocket holes. I'm working with pine and MDF.
That's a great, succinct explanation of fine/coarse thread issue.
Thank you!
Wow. I've had the k4 for some time now. Had no idea that storage existed under the jig. So glad you shared that.
Steve you always have really good tips. Thanks I use a lot of Kreg products so this helps out. Keep putting them out.
Been using the K4 for over 6 years and never knew about the storage places. Thanks.
I always enjoy your videos! I don't even own a pocket hole jig, nor do I feel the need to get one, but I like your style so I watch anyway :)
They're the Ants Pants for woodworking newbies, basically for everyone who loves to DIY :)
Is that little gray block the Micro jig for the kreg pocket hole system?
My ACS 3000 system arrived today. I am not so keen over the blue plastic but I will say my other Kreg jigs have held up surprisingly well.
Thanks Steve! Already knew about the screws but learned my K4 has secret storage spots on the bottom. Good stuff!
I for one would like to thank Kreg for sponsoring Steve, I really like how he teaches. Most of the time when I watch his vids I kinda go "Hmm, I didn't know that"

I've had the K5 for as long as it's been out, and though I've heard of this issue, I've never had it happen under frequent use.
I have issues w stripping out the wood when joining quite often. Do you have any advice?
You are probably driving the screws in too fast or with a lot of torque. You can use the clutch on your drill to stop before the screw gets too tight. Or, what I like to do, drill the screws in most of the way, then use a hand-screwdriver to tighten them.
Great video. But I am surprised no one has done a video yet on using "just the jig" to fix existing furniture on tight spots that is hard for the entire base to use.
What did you use to attach the shop at hose to the dust port?
K4 jig......mind blown! never knew that! Cheers Steve!
Anyone know what music is playing at 2:26? John Heisz has used it in a video or two, and I can't figure out what it is!
Loved this. Just bought my first K4 jig and am starting to build stuff with it. Great tips here as always from WW4MM \m/
Thanks for the tips. Amazing how many people in the tips didn't know about the underside storage, ummm, including me!
Great video as always. Hey, if the K5 can use a 2x4 for supports, what can the K4 use? I think it's a hair short of 1 inch. Plywood?
Another great video....I have a Kreg 1 (don't know the number but I know it is not a 4). I just wish Kreg had some sort of trade-in program so I could upgrade to a K5.
Steve, have always liked your videos. This K4 “secret” storage is great.
Kreg doesn't probably want to hear it, but I love my generic pocket hole jig. Aluminum. None of the fancy add-ons, however. Great video!
Anyone miss the random microjig intros?
No.
Cory Ulrich who hurt you Cory? Who hurt you?
Sure, I miss them, but not very often, lol!
I'm sure Kreg wouldn't appreciate that in their sponsored video. :)
I think the majority of viewers never consider buying that thing. But still love what Steve makes of the intro.
Wow. I had no idea about the storage under the Kreg unit. Thank you Sir!!!
We always learn something from Steve, Thank you.
Using the vacuum attachment to remove the sawdust generally keeps the drill bit cooler so it will last longer.
I love the dust port on my Kreg K5 ig *except* that it constantly pops off with the slights resistance on my vacuum hose. It's really quite annoying but I put up with it because the shavings are more annoying.
Awesome tips
In Kreg’s manual they suggest driving a screw halfway in and reverse out and then drive it home, this does help with hardwoods.
A third advantage of using the vacuum attachment is the drill bit stays cooler, much cooler.
You must have a PHD in wood working I have learned so much from you New Sub here
Awesome Steve! Well done!
I choose to reward your anti clickbaity thumbnail by watching the video in its entirety. Thanks for being awesome
The user manual says that using the vacuum attachment also lowers the heat and makes the bit last longer.
All nice if you own a K5 but only one mention of the K4. Glad to hear they got the height right on the K%, for supports for the K$ I have to use a double thickness of 5/8 OSB.

Holy crap there's storage below my K4? My mind is blown. Thanks, Steve!
I love this channel
This was an awesome quickie crash course on the kreg jig. I'll be byong one of these some day I hope.
That hammered thumb, get well soon :)
Thanks for the tip some of us learns some thing from you each time
I did not know the bit storage was under the K4 jig. Neither did I know there was a place to store the allen wrench. I glued a magnet inside my storage box to hold the wrench. Thanks for the info!
Steve I'm looking to buy a Kreg pocket hole jig soon. Should I buy the 4 or 5? Great videos, fun and informative!
Thanks for this, I just got a K4 jig 2 days ago!
I know there’s tons of videos on RUclips but can you make a how to make corn hole video? I would love to see your take on it
Also vacuum keeps the bit cooler and make drilling faster because you don't have to drill, pull out drill pull out, it's just one shot done
Love this! Just got a K5.
Thanks for the info Steve! 👍👊
Thanks for d tips Steve. 👍
I have had two bits break off at the tip, what am I doing wrong?
I love my Kreg Jig!
Try the Kreg Foreman. Thanks Steve.
Question; Even with the Vacuum attachment in place and my shop-vac running, each time I drill, the bit comes out with the wood shavings packed into the grooves of the drill bit and I need to clean it out before i can drill the next hole. Any suggestions on how to avoid this?
Suck less at drilling
Does it happen in all types of wood? Is there enough suction from the shop vac (i.e. doesn't need to be cleaned)? I've had a little "pop out" when pulling out the drill on occasion, but never stuck in the grooves like that.
Great video Steve thank you
Always informative videos, thanks. I have a k4 still in it's box that I haven't been able to get around to using yet. 😒 Think I will check it out real soon lol
I bought the k5 master kit love it
Please do more of these.
I didn't even know this was a problem, good to know in case I use some in one of my future videos.
i LIKE that 2x4 trick!
Nice video.
And I would like to thank you for being that creepy looking old dude that's full of practical wisdom all woodworkers can benefit from.
Great tips, I didn't know !!
if you only need a handful of long, fine thread screws you can make them self tapping using a (drill press) vice and a file. Or you can use the matthias wandel method with a grinder. Probably could find some on ebay though, I always get my screws in bulk from there
The problem is that long thin screws will snap in hardwood without a pilot hole.
@@SteveRamsey true, I usually get one of those long 1/8" drill bits and follow the first pilot hole
but like you said I agree the 1 1/4" has almost always more than enough holding power
