    Love this short format, George. Great decision to revisit this. ですis a funny old thing. My teacher told once told me that です is not a verb and I still dont know what it actually is. So is だ a verb and です is not? I find it baffling, as you can easily substitute だwith a です、can't you.

      @_Annoyed Most recently I mentioned that name a day or so ago... or a week maybe ago on a livestream there. Another good one is "Japanese After Zero!" but I've always liked "Japanese Beyond Zero!".
      HOWEVER!!!!!! To be fair I can't find it anywhere. The indexing sites don't look at private videos, so I'm guessing I said it in a video no longer private. If any else remembers where I've said it, I would be curious.

    I think it's really difficult to teach noobies why something is grammatically correct or not, hence why George didn't just simply say they are adjectives attached to a verb. Those of us that have studied for years and know the technicalities get why you can add desu in some cases or not in others, but to someone that is new to learning that's like expecting a toddler to know what an Adjective even is.

  • @FunnyAnimatorJimTV
    @FunnyAnimatorJimTV 16 дней назад

    since japanese tends to more reserved/avoid giving super strong opinions, do you think it's still ok to say いきたくなかったです and in what kind of situations

  • @korumu

    Well, because they become adjectives and stop being verbs

    summary: nai and tai are adjectives you attach to a verb stem... add DESU... masu is a verb you attach to a verb stem... do not add DESU. Or do like Anya: Ohayoumasu

    • @japanesefromzero
      @japanesefromzero  16 дней назад +1

      Hmmmm. That doesn’t seem like a summary of what I said. I normally don’t mention the whole adjective thing as I feel it can be confusing. All Japanese verbs can be adjectives in informal form, but they don’t all act the same way.
