Please, you SHOULD relate this to DBZ, Woozi is a HUGE anime fan (like the man once held a 6 hours!!!! live talking about anime), so it's def no coincidence 😂
Also keep in mind if they referenced DBZ more directly instead of keeping it vague enough that it can be attributed to both DBZ and Journey to the West, Toei probs would come down on their asses for copyright infringement. I think they're making it as clear as they can without either getting into legal trouble or having to pay huge license fees.
Goku’s character is inspired by Sonogong, the Monkey King- the Journey to the west. There’s a lot of references(choreography & lyrics) form Dragon Ball and the Journey to the west: 1. Instant transmission 2. Ka-me-ha-me 3. The flying cloud 4. The power pole 5. The spirit bomb 6. Shadow clones(dancers behind the members in the last formation) from the mythology of Journey to the West 7. “This is the cartoon’s credit song”-They make sure to end the song letting us know that this is an homage to the cartoon(captions) As Dragon Ball fan… since my childhood… I was elated to spot all of them in a 3 minute MV. That’s why I love SVT
As a DBZ fan, I never knew I would witness the character turns into a song, a song that really brings positivity and encouragement. Seventeen is amazing, I am a very proud carat!
well, they already had enough with CGI in their past comeback as their present being 7 years in this industry, which was very very good. What I recognized is they're not trying to be easy to guess, that's why maybe they're create this one with little animation and mostly showing their signature as theatre kids of KPOP.
The fact that The8 (Minghao) still slayed that hard while still recovering from a collarbone injury shows just how hard he works and how much he cares ❤ also love that the modified some choreo for him so he can still participate more 🫶💎🫶
in fact the title in Korean is sonogong (which would be SON GOKU), also in the final part where woozi sings "this is the final chapter of this manga" the others take a step moving their hands as if they were turning pages, and also at the end when they are placed in a type of triangle they allude to the teleportation they did in dragon ball
I’m not even a carat but you bet after this mv i am. That shot of Minghao right there just sealed me. I am stuck. I am obsessed. I am now both an army and carat.
man i start to really love Seventten a lot . I wasn't into them until 2 years ago but they drop banger after banger , they're not just a fantastic dance group with insane choreo they're songs got me .
Haha, i think the dbz references are absolutely intentional. There are many references in the choreo, woozi is a weeb, and if nothing else the last line of the song is essentially "heres the anime ending song" lol And either way dbz is directly inspired by journey to the west
The character from dbz Goku is based on Sonogong. The Chinese novel Journey to the West is very very popular. It's like one of the most well known novels out there in Asia I'd say, along side Romance of the Three Kingdoms(another very old classic that I love), etc..considering how old the novels are. Thank you for reacting to svt💎✨️
In the original story of Journey to the West, the monkey king goes through various challenges with his crew battling monsters/demons as well as getting along with his fellow monks. In many instincts Sun wu kong who is the main hero, has to learn the hard way how to work in a team instead of relying on his power, which I think is what Seventeen references to in ‘I love my team, I love my crew’. Without his crew, Sun Wu Kong would not have been able to make the journey alone. Seventeen is a group that is so tightly knit because of all the hardship they have gone through together. (Just my 2 cents on the underlying message of using the monkey king as a symbol) Woozi’s opening sitting at the top of the backup dancers with their arms resembles a lotus, which in traditional Chinese mythology, the Guanyin goddess (Bodhisattva) sits on. She is the representation of compassion and guides Sun wu kong’s crew. Woozi❤
What if you combine Don Quixote, Hot, March in one song, it became Super, Sonogong. Don Quixote = feel like being one legend "character" Hot = vibing about yourself are unstoppable March = entire song dedicated to be an anthem that defined you
GOSH the way you analyze the lyrics I love it. I love how you appreciate their teamwork and realte it to the lyrics idk how to explain but I love this reaction vid.
it's relate DBZ and Monkey KING too. According to the song description, "SEVENTEEN, which continues to evolve, is expressed with energy like 'Sonokong'. Inspired by the common characteristics of the characters 'Sonokong' that exist in various ways in the world, the part that touches Seventeen is expressed lyrically."
I really enjoy the reaction and your description of the story, and appreciate it that you did a lot pre-work I think, looking forward to more about svt!
No this isn't coincidence it is related to Son Goku ...the kamehamehaa move and ultra instinct is indeed depicting Goku here....it excited me too when I realised like it's so dope
If ever there was an mv to nerd out about DBZ it would be this one so you don't have to be self conscious about nerding out. I love journey to the west so this was the perfect introduction to Seventeen for me! I also think Lay's D.N.A. cypher is worth checking out when you get the chance (it's actually 2 cyphers in the mv). 🙂
