- Convoys of Challenger 2 battle tanks and Warrior armoured vehicles hauled by Oshkosh tank transporters for the British Army. This video shows 3 convoys shot from multiple positions.
The Challenger 2 is the Main Battle Tank (MBT) of the British Army and is operated by The King's Royal Hussars, The Queen's Royal Hussars & The Royal Tank Regiment at Tidworth Camp, Wiltshire. The FV 510 Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) transports infantry and provides an armoured fighting capability across the Royal Armoured Corps (RAC).
The Oshkosh 1070F 8x8 is the tractor unit of the Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) tasked with pulling Challenger 2s, Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicles, and other heavy vehicles on the 14 wheeled King Trailers seen in the video. These are operated by 19 Tank Transporter Squadron of the Royal Logistics Corps (RLC) at Bulford Camp, and also KBR FTX Logistics Ltd, who are contracted to the Ministry of Defence to provide transport during peacetime.
You will also notice some other vehicles. Following the Challenger 2s is a Challenger Armoured Repair and Recovery Vehicle (CRARRV) of the Royal Electrical & Mechnical Engineers (REME), in case the tanks require recovery. An older Chieftain Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers (AVRE) and a Chieftain Armoured Vehicle Launched Bridge (AVLB) are also seen, which are now retired and only used as training aids.

@@Dibock-gv3gr Not the longest of convoys but according to all dictionaries they are convoys, though probably in short groups primarily for the convenience of other road users. Instead of criticising the use of the word why didn’t you say what word you believe should be used?

I`m a Taxi - Driver that took some caution in squeezing between two vehicles parked on opposite sides of the road I was taking my passenger down. My ( drunk ) passenger shouted at me, " put your foot on it, mate - you can drive a f`ing tank through that gap." I told him that I could drive a tank through any f`ing gap.
I was a challenger 1 and 2 crewman for 6 years , great video brings back good memories, Thanks

@@adrianhatton8793what regiment was you? when I joined, we was just swapping over the Challenger 1’s over to the Challenger 2’s.
They only have 30 of them now. Do they go around the block and pass again? Check the number plates.
Different armoured vehicles also.
See a lot of these coming down the M3 to Marchwood on Southampton Water.

when the army transported the tanks it was described as going out on DRAG and the driver used to get paid extra ration money.
My son drove then ..are they on their way to Wiltshire..

Currently the number of active Army regular personnel would not fill the stands of the West Ham stadium (80,000 capacity); the whole Army Reserve plus the Brigade of Gurkhas would not quite fill Elland Road stands. Food for thought!

The transporters are OSHKOSH UK HET 1070F - Manufactured 2003 - massive 18,000CC Diesel engine. But the tanks, I have no info on, sorry.

@@CobraEmergency sorry to burst everyone’s bubbles, I actually drive these for a living and we don’t have “security escorts”. We just have wide load escort vans.. anything else in the convoy is likely to be the tank crews

When I was young, we used to frequently have 32 Hercules transport planes fly over our house, from RAF Lyneham. Now the Hercules have gone along with Lyneham and many other capabilities, far too numerous to list here. When I was in the Royal Navy, we were worried because we `only` had 80,000 personnel and 8,000 Royal Marines. It is laughable what we have left now.
Seemingly recruitment is improving. They have to get rid of Capita who is/was the contracted out recruitment outfit as they are the reason for this. The military has to go back to their own recruitment!@@davericketts9101
I believe all these Oshkosh tank transporters are on permanent hire by the MOD, yes they are old vehicles, but each and everyone of them are thoroughly maintained. I do know they have had a nut and bolt re-build.
Everything from the engine, chassis, gear box, cab etc has been restored ,and even obsolete parts have been bespoke made for them.
At our expense!

Not massive Hp those lorries compared to commercial but they are very low geared to handle the hills as there's a hell of weight on those trailers💪
Love the videos and it's a good but sad sight as its a sign of what's to come, these past 3 weeks I've been seeing 2 chinooks every other day fly over our house in the west midlands in an area I've never known them fly over here before

It may be when near army bases but in wednesbury west midlands chinooks flying over every other day is definitely not a regular occurrence prior to last few months never seen one over the Midlands where I am, whereas down chisel beach Dorset whilst fishing I've seen plenty now down there its a regular occurrence, but chinooks flying over me definitely a sign they are transporting a hell of a lot of gear across the country for something
Chinoiserie regularly flies across Wednesfield going to Quuen Elizabeth 2 hospital in Harborne, Birmingham.They fy north over B6 5QE area probably going back.

I live just down the road and often see these Tank movements happen every other week down the A303. Due to these going though Tidworth, I suspect they were heading to the Perham Base or the training areas on Salisbury plain.
Yeah they're pretty regular on the A303 into Tidworth where they're based.

That was worth watching, thanks. Its the first time I have ever noticed that some of the tank transporters are on civilian licence plates and others are on military ones. Does anyone know why that is ?
The civilian company, KBR FTX Logistics, are contracted to operate them for general logistic movements during peacetime and thus display civilian plates. Whereas during hostile situations or exercises, 19 Tank Transporter Squadron operate them on MoD plates. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

Grantham has a military base there prince William of Gloucester barracks. Was a RCT base I been there a few times. My old unit RCT now disbanded.

Probably shipped off to get scrapped in Ukraine, while we suffer backfiring sanctions in an effort to drain Russia to the last Ukrainian.

I like those big trucks, who builds those? People forget that buying all the fighting vehicles doesn't stop there, you need transport like these for each one I'm guessing, then there is all the other bits of kit needed, I can imagine a large amount of the budget given to buy these fighting vehicles is spent on stuff like this, stuff that's essential, it would be interesting to see a breakdown down of all the kit needed just for 1 Tank and its full cost.

The uk has 213 challenger 2 main battle tanks and 3200 other armoured vehicles.

Our navy army and Air force have such potential and top end weapons systems but those numbers of systems would be painfully unsustainable if,perish the thought the U.K was to face a 'peer adversary?

This is normal. It happens every week. It's the only way tanks can travel from A to B. Nothing to do with anything cobra.
The one question is are they working or going to get fixed seeing as are armed forces are so under funded it is a disgrace.
