Yes I have been following this canal breach with Taylor's Abroad youtube as well. Thanks for showing us the town & fields affected. So much damage there. Canals are fascinating. Cheers from Australia ❤
I grew up At Little Bollington, when it was a council estate. I used to work for the farmer that used the national trust land. The soil is heavy clay. Their is also badgers set about 300m from where it burst. It has burst at this location 3 times. once in the 1800s and in 1971. it took 2 years to fix last time. Now that the water level has dropped the canal banks has started to also collapse. The water pressure is not holding the stones back. If you go to the bank where the old number 3 pub is you can see the banking has fallen apart. As time moves on more of the banking will subside. The fields that are in this clip is flood land. They flood a few times a year when the River Bollin bursts it's banks. However even the flood land was overwhelmed by this one. Stay safe M

No it wouldn't have and even if there was it was very limited, because the council's and government at the time kept flip flopping between approving it and denying it. So it was only very limited. The land around there has a lot of clay and loose dirt. It was only time before it happened and has happened in the past. The problem is the canal infrastructure is in dire-condition as much with the rest of UK infrastructure, so something like this was going to happen.
It breached here in 1971 and in the 1800's so not related to fracking (although fracking is catastrophic and uneconomic too). Likely this is caused by excessive rain which will be more frequent due to climate change.

Do you know if any fracking has taken place in this area sink holes is a common occurrence associated with fracking 🙏✨️
Fracking is banned in the uk at the moment until there is enough evidence that it isn't harmful.

Thanks again for watching and your input, much appreciated, take care 👍🏻
Why have they not put a dam in place yet
Because that takes a bit more time. First they have to source the materials for the dam, bit of a problem with most businesses closed. After that, there is the matter of transportation which also takes time.
@@christrott9627 they have shored up the canal either side of the breach with planks and huge sand bags until they can get proper dams built, that's what the guys on the bridge were doing. It'll take time to build dams, especially with the flooding either side of the canal.
Thanks for the question and watching 👍🏻
Taking a chance being stood by that edge.
@@judeboardman4500 I wasn't that close tbh, the only thing at risk was my go pro on the end of my rather long selfie stick, though some other people did go a bit further than me. Thanks for watching and for your concern though, much appreciated 👍🏻
🤦🏼♀️🤦🏻🤦🏼♂️
literally warns you not to go any further, yet you have to just to get some views on social media that you no longer do lol the joys of this world and their thinking.
I've not done this for views actually, though it has gone viral. I have a friend on a boat on the canal which I was checking on, and though that the plight of those affected should be brought to people's attention.
Thanks for your concern and for watching 👍🏻

Where's the Chinooks with the giant sandbags?
Lots of the Chinooks and other heavy lifting helicopters have been grounded by our government cuts.
@@cybersteve1 probably in Ukraine 🤣.....they were lowering large "sandbags" (those big bags they transport slate chips in from homebase etc) from the bridge via a small tracked crane.
Cheers for watching and commenting 👍🏻
