Tbh this video makes me look very stupid on my bike but was just messing around that day having a bit of fun and the reason I kept slowing down and wasn't flying all the way because I was waiting on my friend to catch up he stayed behind he had a Yamaha 650 dragstar just taking it easy and I was just annoying the idiot on the mt09 that thought his bike would be faster tbh if he could ride it properly it probably it might have been quicker than the gpz 😂😊
Just wanted to make that clear tbh i have more fun on the bike taking it easy and enjoying the corners and the amazing roads up in Scotland but we all have to be honest when you have that much power underneath you its hard to resist opening the throttle sometimes I do know a few people that ride up this way that will constantly do stupid speeds up that road ...190mph++ what's the point take that to a track and don't waste the fun for everyone else
Not stupid at all, I ride like that all the time lol. I have the same bike, so I know how addictive the acceleration can be, and it's not even fast by modern standards. God knows what 200 + bhp must be like on the roads...Nothing beats thrashing an old bike and getting the best out of it. Stay safe thanks for the vid
I owned a GPz900r 1985 model , I bought it brand new . The most fun bike I've ever owned , thanks for bringing back fond memories of my favourite bike . As for the MT09 which is nothing more than a rebadged FZ , is 20kmh slower in the top end and 0.6 seconds slower in the 0-400 metres . Kawasaki set the benchmarks with Mach 1 , the Z1 and the GPz900r and the H2 has carried on the tradition .
For real? An MT-09 has 115bhp and 87.5 NM torque GPZ had 115bhp and 85nm torque in 1985 The MT-09 weighs 185kg vs 225kg for the gpz MT-09 0-60 in 2.9 seconds vs 3.4 Not to mention 34 years development in brakes and suspension Ridden properly the MT will shit all over the GPZ
Brings back memories 🙄had 2 gpz900s when they first came out ,wrote the first off at 5 weeks old when a datsun cherry pulled out of a side road while i was doing 70mph 😣so keep em peeled !! Bloody fast in the 80s and plenty fast enough now .
At the moment my GPZ900 (84) is stored and hasn't been out in about nine years because of well, mortgage and the rest of life really. This is very stimulating and heartbreaking at the same time!! Thankyou from Kiwi Land.
Had an original A2 for 6 years when they came out. Still my favourite road bike ever. One up, two up, camping gear, whatever, fill the tank, dial in the suspension and hooligan shit eating grins are you. Comfy to ride all day and very very solid handing. I know modern bikes are way more powerful but these were a joy to ride and I never had anyone get away from me on a public road, ever. Great engine sound too. Only thing I didn't like was the diaphragms in the CV carbs, they used to go quite a lot and were a pain in the arse when they started to wear. At 60 quid per carb, that was a lot of money for a 1980's apprentice!! Didn't give a shit when I was thrashing it up the road every day though, hail rain or shine. Tool.................fek, i'm gonnae huv tae get another one!!!!!!!
I'm 45 now, 46 in Jan and had bikes since I was 16... in my younger days always wanted the fastest bike I could afford and every ride was a race' if I passed a bike I hoped it chased me.... today I own a 95 GSXR 750 ws and a late reg 96 ZXR 750l... never gonna win a speed race but I don't want to... bin there done that... today just like to enjoy a steady ride and get home to my family
Lovely roads, my A7 is now in re-construction - eta mid-May or before, furlough is helpful!! May keep it now after watching this, have XSR900, FZR100EXUP, Custom Harley Sportster and Ducati S2R.
@@andrewmacbiker9979 thank you! One day i feel i should ride that road on my kawasaki. Would love a gpz900r, i have had a zzr600 for 7 years and i’m trying to fix a gpx400 also. The 900r’s are a bit out of my price range in my area
@1700iDiGuy I'm actually considering selling my GPZ900R now unfortunately due to change in circumstances I'd be very sad to see it go but I've made many happy memories on it 🙂

900r is plenty fast enough even by today's standards. They were fast then and they're still fast today regardless of what else is faster.

Brings it all back instantly, the gear shift, the wind blast, it's a shame we didn't have GoPro's,

Where is the Mt09?
It's all down to the rider. A well ridden GPZ900 will be hard to match on any bike.
Maximum warp Mr sulu.. Nice bike & nice road.
GPZ900's are sweet fast bikes
Yeah definitely are and I love my gpz900r
I have rode my A2 around those same roads many a time also.
