No other park here in FL. is as covid conscience as Disney, and having been there 3 times myself during this covid crap, I can attest to the fact that most people adhere to the rules, and continue to do things like limit family to elevator, and wait for next one, the hand sanitizers are used frequently after each ride, the restaurants we went to, we walked right without a reservation because everyone is eating outside if they are crowded. Plus, we have had to complain about almost every meal we have tried to eat. TOO salty! to dry, to old and soggy, either no flavor or WAY to salty. I've had better meals in hospitals, no joke. Even the one in France was not great and for those prices, it should be 5 star.

    What upsets me the most is that it’s clear that the people who make up the creative teams currently at Disney aren’t at the same level of talent they used to be. It’s not that we’re getting embarrassingly bad products like these videos and Kite Tales and Enchantment due to cost savings. The creative teams at Disney actually think they’ve done a good job and then are shocked by how what they created is received. If they were aware they’re putting out bad products it would be less upsetting. The fact that dozens of people were involved in making these awful videos and shows and no one said “hey, this sucks” speaks volumes about the state of things and means Disney has hired people who don’t even know what’s good.

      Disney relocating their Imagineers from California to Florida, resulting in a massive portion of them quitting because they don't want to (or can't) uproot their lives by moving to the other side of the country, will only make that worse in the coming years

    • @Blah3210
      @Blah3210 2 года назад +25

      You can't solely blame imagineers for how this turned out. The direction and ultimately creative failure of Star Wars projects at Disney Parks is in the hands of Kathleen Kennedy's LucasFilm. Imagineers wanted to build out Tatooine around Star Tours, but it was KK's decision to instead create a new area that nobody's ever heard of and set it during the poorly-conceived sequel trilogy. Now we're seeing them double-down on the same mistake with this roleplay hotel, but this time the product they're offering is so ludicrously expensive that unless it meets the expectations of diehard fans it's doomed to fail.

      Maybe the people working are forcing themselves to go along with this crap in a kind of The Emperor's Clothes way. They may know this is bombing, but obviously the Emperor, whoever it may be, Chapek or Kennedy or someone in between, has no clue, and they don't dare tell him for fear of their jobs. When/if this fails, hopefully it will be the big "The Emperor is naked" shock the whole bunch of them need, but I doubt it. The huge response to Luke in The Madalorian was far enough ago they could have made a few changes if it sank in what the fans were looking for, but obviously it didn't.

There are ride queues that look better than this and much more impressive. They had the opportunity to create one of the greatest experiences ever. Based on that, I was supremely excited to see it come to life.... then the pricing was announced. • @andreo

    I honestly think they should have made this as a 18 hour experience. That way people do get to sleep onboard "the ship". They don't have to attempt to fill the two days with something that people want to do. It may leave the guest wanting more. They can reduce the price (perhaps $400 a person). And they can move a lot more people through the experience.
    Personally, I went from "How do I convince the wife to agree to do this, at this price point." To "Nah, this cost too much for too little and this money would be better off spent on an actual 3-4 day crusie."

    The entire problem with this Hotel as well as the entire Star Wars land, their 50th anniversary fireworks show and some of the other attractions that are now present at Disney World) is simply this: they are being developed by non-creative people whose only focus is THE BOTTOM LINE and HOW TO MAKE MORE MONEY and NOT by true fans whose focus is to make people happy. They should have used the Tantive IV and the Mon Calamari cruisers as their design inspiration: those are the best example of a relatively "clean" but still SW-ish ship interior we have. In every shot, you can sense the corner-cutting that had to happen with each little decision. I have no doubt that at some point somebody said, "Are we really just going to us standard drywall here?" and the response was probably a mix of: we have to stick to hotel building codes (as if that prevents you from making interesting molding on your walls and ceilings), lamentations about cost, and dismissals that nobody would care what the ceiling looks like, etc.

    All excellent points. When I looked over the itinerary, I noticed that there were in-depth experiences but they lasted only 20 minutes each. This experience has to be fully immersive from start to finish. It has to allow guests to dress in costume and blend in with non-guest actors to the point that you can’t tell one from the other. It’s not impossible to do but it requires a great deal of imagination and planning. Imagine an experience like The Adventurers Club at Pleasure Island. You are in a lounge area and people are relating their stories to the group. Now, take it a step further. What if some of those people were not actors but role playing guests! There has to be enough of that immersive experience in addition to what looked like a bunch of video games in the deleted video. Why would I pay thousands of dollars to go to a futuristic arcade? They really need to do better.

The matrix has been in Star Wars, I’m not sure what blade runner is but you they do run with the lightsabers, ET, Space Odyssey journey through space, and others. That’s why it’s interesting it’s a combination of all sci-fi in a unique story fashion. It’s not perfect, no movie is perfect, but if it was perfect it wouldn’t be interesting to watch. Ironically, what could save this are the actors. If there is an actual storyline that guests can influence and change throughout the experience (like a highly detailed murder mystery party), that might be enough. For that to work, the actors need to be masters at improv and they have to have mechanisms to easily inform other actors about what the guests said or did.
    For example, if the guest saves the ship from an "attack" while on the bridge, that guest should be treated as a hero for the remainder of the trip...because if it were real, everyone living on the ship would have heard about what the guest did since it saved their lives.
    All of that said, accomplishing that would be a huge feat. Carrying on multiple stories (since there are multiple groups on every trip) would be difficult without some sort of director. And I haven't heard of Disney hiring anyone that could do that sort of thing.

    When it come to Disney people have the expectation of a Disney that was 20 years ago. Not the cheap stuff that they are pulling now. I watched an old film of Mission to Mars and I started laughing. It was Space 220 with the same basic lift off idea. I know back then I preferred to experience a Disney that had props and people you could see. That was one reason I didn't like Universal. Too many screens. We spent a week in mid November and I don't have any intention of going back. It was awful. What's the deal with lighting at night? EPCOT was so dark it was dangerous. I guess that they missed the idea of people seeing things and then want to visit them. When will they learn that being cheap isn't working for the guests? Oh there's absolutely no reason that construction projects can't be finished in a timely manner. They started Tron 4 years ago and they don't expect it to be finished for another year. Roy Disney would never put up with this crap. Bet you a nickel that Splash Mountain won't be rethemed for at least 5 years if ever. Sure they are getting the crowds now, but I doubt that they will get a lot of repeat guests. Not a lot to do for younger kids and older people just can't take some of those rides. Think of Hollywood Studios.

Now that I’ve seen what they’re offering, I don’t think I would take it for free. I would rather stay at a regular Disney hotel and spend my time in the parks. Long-term, they’re going to have to turn this into a deluxe hotel, cut the actors and the cosplay and the specialty experiences, and just rely on the themed rooms, themed dining, proximity to galaxies edge, and ability to cut the line for rise of the resistance, Smugglers run and Oga’s cantina. And obviously they’re going to have to cut the cost by about 1/2 to 2/3 at minimum. If they want to save face initially, they will just have 30%, 40% or 50% discounts until they are forced to drop the base prices. The market was extremely niche to begin with, but now they’ve even turned off that niche. What a huge disappointment.

The generation after me, which is known for favoring and spending money on experiences, will want to experience the prequels. My son's generation will come in wanting to be a part of the sequels. The first two - three months of bookings will be weighted by influencers and YTers from all over the world along with the absolute die hard Star Wars fans rushing to try it, no surprise it's mostly full. I’m more about experiences than photo ops for social media and I think that’s what most people want except for influencers and let’s face it- the majority of people are not influencers. I think they should have just made this another hotel option to stay at and not the whole role play thing.

When I heard I thought how neat...but I thought they were going to have character actors filling the roles not moving employee from one restaurant to another. Right there I knew that the experience wasnt going to be full out magic that Walt would have made it. I wish Disney would put someone with magic and sparkle in their eyes in charge instead of dollar signs.

    That final concept art around the 13:13 mark versus what the promo video showed is very telling. The concept art LOOKS like a spaceship (due to the detailing on the ceiling mostly but also the door entrance detail) while the actual "ship" looks like a hotel. Fire codes could very well be a big reason for it (you have to have sprinklers and alarms and such) but the disconnect is jarring.

Imagine being in the hotel and suddenly that fateful star wars alarm goes off and the captain said "man the turrets! incoming pirates!" and you are there shooting your own turret! (not sharing 1 turret like one person moves one person shoots). maybe you fail to defend the ship and pirates board the vessel! a door opens, smoke comes out and fully costumed alien pirates come onboard. the amount of missed opportunities are absolutely staggering. not to mention that this ship looks like Bethesda Game Studios Starfield! star wars is dark, dingey, lived in and used. this is bogus

    I agree. One of my biggest disappointments with Galaxy's Edge was the lack of costumed characters. I mean, every other area of the Magic Kingdom/Disneyland has animated characters (Mickey, Ariel, etc.) and live characters (Capt. Jack Sparrow, etc.) walking around. Not Star Wars characters. Not even generic droids or aliens. Hell, they could have dressed up the custodial staff as bounty hunters or whatever, but they didn't. The sets were nice, but for all the trouble they went to in designing the "planet," it didn't have a single inhabitant. Put the actors over there!

    It doesn’t even look as enjoyable as a Medieval Times! And the other problem is Galaxy’s Edge opened with such a subpar response, so people are taking that into account for Galactic Starcruiser as well. Had they opened Starcruiser and Edge at the same time, they probably would have been able to scam more people into this, at least early on.
    It’s a ridiculous proposition to think I want to travel to WDW to spend days in a windowless environment at an insane cost based on what they’ve revealed across the board, on top of general cutbacks and broken promises at the parks as another ongoing example. I'm going to wait and see how this experience turns out when media previews start (I anticipate that The DIS will leave an honest review at least), but I wouldn't be surprised to see this become a defining failure of Chapek's CEO run. The thing is, is that I believe the idea for a structured hotel experience like this could be really cool with the right execution. A Haunted Mansion hotel that has you attending Victorian balls, graveyard parties or seances with Leota? It sounds like a good idea if the right people were behind it. The Galactic Starcruiser had the potential to completely change the entertainment industry, and yet I can't help but feel it's likely going to be a flop because of how Disney misunderstands its audience. I suppose we'll see, because at the very least we know one thing; Disney's marketing department is quite incapable right now.

    It looks like Star Trek. There were plans for Star Trek hotel using a near life size Enterprise in Vegas. The head of Paramount cancelled it at the last minute. It looks the idea found new life as Galaxy Star Cruiser, but it doesn't look executed very well. The thing is, Star Trek lends itself very well to larping because of Starfleet's mix of quasi military and civilian families aboard ship. Star Trek is also semi grounded to earth technology, so being on earth is not unusual in a Star Trek setting. By using Star Wars theme for this weird larp hotel, they pin themselves into having to create this atmosphere where they lock you down for two or three days. Personally I would prefer a straight ahead resort that is themed to Star Wars that actually feels like a resort. Some characters walking around, some animatronics, maybe a pool themed after Dagobah and a dinner show. I don't like the idea of paying so much for something doesn't feel like a resort. It looks like a prison from the outside and it doesn't look much better on the inside from the short clips I saw. Why would they do this and not create saaaay...a Cloud City resort? They just seem creatively bankrupt lately. 🤷

      Right, and like he said *dinner show* - the Star-Wars version of the Luau or Hoop-dee-Doo but more advanced with animatronic robots and actors performing. Imagine dining in the Star Wars Cantina but with actual performers playing the music live on unusual instruments (kinda like Blue Man Group) and working the crowd... at some point there's a "raid" and stormtroopers or similar case the joint and there's a laser battle with some performers being undercover rebels, a mysterious figure at a silhouetted table who might be a known character...so much could be done. It probably doesn't need to be an entire murder-mystery-style weekend, just a cool hotel with an awesome normal-length show two or three times per night like they know how to do. It could be exclusive/first choice to hotel guests, and also open to same-day reservations like the other hotel dining shows if they have availability.

    • @phillyguy199
      @phillyguy199 2 года назад +2

      The problem with that is the hotel is basically warehouse type boxes surrounding by utility type buildings. It would cost millions to turn it in to a normal resort. • @dave_7235
      @dave_7235 2 года назад

      @@phillyguy199 Also, the limited number of rooms they built into this hotel would still make it an ultra-exclusive (read that as ultra costly) stay even without the "experience".
      I just tried to look it up and it seems like there are around 100 total rooms in the Star Wars hotel. The Contemporary as a comparison has about 600 rooms (I trusted a reference I saw for that, so forgive me if it's off a bit).
      Obviously the Star Wars hotel doesn't have many of the selling points of the Contemporary(proximity to MK, Monorail, view, etc), but with only 1/6 of the availability, I have to imagine it would still be a huge chunk of change to stay there. Maybe not multiply by 6 times, but it won't be moderate or value priced either, I'm sure.
      Not that I check a lot, but Contempo rates seem to regularly approach north of $1k per night. Scale the lower availability of Star Wars and we could approach the current price even WITHOUT the experience aspect.
      YMMV ;) My thoughts only after watching Brayden's excellent analysis and reading a bunch of the other good comments people have made.
