I absolutely love that this guy Mike shares his knowledge on every single detail on restoring this Shelby. It's been a pleasure listening to his genius mind through this entire process. He just showed the world you don't take a Shelby Mustang anywhere else but to him. His knowledge is out of this world. He is a perfectionist at his craft. So awesome to listen, learn and watch every minute.
@@wadejadwin5698 They have been coming out slowly over the last year. I don't see why they would not post updates till the end. We may have to wait a month or two for more content. I kinda like it. It's like an episode of a good tv show. When one is posted I enjoy coming home, putting it on the big screen and watching it.
Is anyone else super impressed that this guy doesn't have a helper holding this or handing him that. He does the work of at least two guys. And impeccable work to boot.
I know your primary goal is to document your cars' restoration Jerry, but I sure do appreciate your bringing us along for the ride too - and especially thanks to Jason for being so agreeable to being filmed as well. This is stuff you just don't see very often! - Ed on the Ridge
Well, I've done a ton of how-to's in my auto journalism for car magazines. My pet peeve was always how-to's that left out steps. So, I would get detailed in my how-to's for print, and a lot of that was to fulfill my curiosity of the tech, so same for video. Jason would have the tools and parts laid out when I arrived, usually around 9:30 am to 10:00 am and man we covered ground by the time 4:00 pm rolled around. Round trip to his shop is 204 miles. He works steady, no stopping, tools organized, parts laid out.
It's getting exciting. Jason is not only a great restor but his knowledge, recall, and ability to remain true and unfazed while doing the work on camera is truly highest level. Jerry I'm really happy for you ! Your dream nearly realized. Thanks for taking us on the journey. My favorite car of all time. Cheers Doug 😎
So, who wants to start the gofundme for Jason to get a camera crew so he can start his own channel! Hands down the best on youtube right now. No B.S. just straightforward information. Heres what to do, heres the products I use and heres how to use them. Love it!
I agree 100%. This guy needs his own RUclips channel. The knowledge this man has in unbelievable. Jerry doing a great job camering him breaking it all down step by step. But with a camera crew and his own channel, ppl would be coming in from all over the world to see n hear this guy restore vehicles. Jason is a legend and legends need to be known. He's trully a relic, a genius and there just isn't ppl like him that exsist anymore.
It's amazing how just the bottom stripes really make the car come alive. The headliner/ windshield installation steps/carefulness is outstanding. It really shows you have had to do this many times before to get them just right. Thank you for the vid, really starting to look like a car
Jerry I am so happy for you. This car is unbelievable beautiful. I can’t imagine how excited you are getting. Congratulations on your dream car build. It’s definitely a dream car. And Jason is absolutely great and his patience is incredible. I look forward to every episode.
Its amazing how rocker stripes change the look of a car. Back in the 80s I had a couple cars with them, made the car look so different from the base versions.
Installing the glass always marks the home stretch for me, a very satisfying part for any build. The car is coming together nicely and his attention to detail and knowledge is going to really shine in these final stages of assembly. It's going to be pretty stunning, I can't wait to see it drive out into the sunshine for the first time.
This is really a second to none restore. this guy does not sacrifice any detail or cut any corners this is a such a privilege to be able to see such a good restore thank you
What a beautiful car. I csn only imagine what it will look like when it’s done. Basically better then new. I always loved fixing and building vehicles. My buddy owned a body shop and I used to be there every day off and on weekends cause I truly loved doin paint and body work. I’m by no far the best but I’ve gotten lucky and did several nice repairs and paint jobs.
Jerry, Thanks to you I found the right guy to restore my 67 Gt 500. When I watched the second episode where he removed the quarter panels, I knew right then I was calling Jason that day! Should be finished very soon. If anyone is look to restore a car, Jason White is your man!
Another great Video. Boy is it coming together, and fast. Always looking forward to seeing the next video. Thanks for taking the time of chronicling build.
Been watching from day 1. Even after seeing in the comments, the car has been done for a year? I’m going to continue watching until last video. No spoiler. Side note: Really cool that you can call Jason and walk through ignition issues during a find video. That’s class A. Thank you both.
If someone had told me in September 1967 that these cars would be so special today, yeah I would have said your nuts. We made the rounds to all the dealers in the fall every year on a certain day. They brought all the next year models out to show. Mustang, Camaro and the MOPAR muscle. As a 17 year old all I could do was dream.
A rubber mallet will save your hands! Take it from a trim guy! The pattern you're talking about is called Crater which mimics the surface of the moon most commonly used as well as tetra that had a criss-cross pattern . Until the crappy boarded headliner became cheaper faster less labor intensive but usually doesn't last as long as the (ribbed headliner) that you are installing!
I've been waiting for this video Jerry. It's so cool to see you get your Shelby. I'm curious as to what you think about it now since you actually knew Carol. Did you ever think you would own one? And what do you think he'd say about it? I've told you before that I grew up in the 80s around my dad's 64 Sting Ray,my uncle's 70 ss 396 Chevelle, and my mom's 70 Mustang....but now at almost 50 I'm thinking my dream of a 66big block Vette and a 70 Chevelle may not be possible financially. I'm ok with watching guys like you who are legends in my mind , getting yours! It sure is pretty Jerry!!!!😮😊
Maybe I can run across car for you. Send me an email - jerryheasley@gmail.com. What would Carrol tell me? In 1987 I bought a 1965 Shelby 289 Cobra Roadster. I'll tell you exactly what Carroll told me then. I told him I'd been saving to buy a 289 Roadster, a real one, not a kit. And he said, "Well you better hurry. They're going way up in price." He was right. I had that Roadster for 27 years.
When I was a kid in the 70's my dad had his own glass company and he would have me pull the rope in the glass, the only thing he did different was he sprayed the rubber with silicone so it pulled smooth.
“I’m going to mask off the roof to protect it from the overspray of the glue because this glue will actually eat into the paint”. Literally the next scene: “What’s the purpose of masking this off?” “To protect the paint from overspray of the glue because it will eat into the paint”. 😂😂😂 Anyway, beautiful car. It’s been a great series of videos thus far.
Your Shelby is looking fantastic! You have the right man doing the restoration. When you received the car you had original glass. Was that the same glass that was installed?
There are 5 more. I'll do a Part 10 after I get out this next video. I show detail so the editing work takes 50 to 100 hours per part, not to mention the actual filming.
My sixty seven fastback black headliner, never failed there was never a wrinkle,, Had The original factory installed headliner.Since the car was new...
GO back and look at episode 1.... 41:33 .....then look at 42:02 on this episode about concourse details of the GT 500 placement. Why does the original decal have the stripe to the left of the 500?
Do you mind going back to the video and listening when Jason explains why not single stage paint. I can't explain it like he can because he is experienced. I know that I thought single-stage acrylic enamel was the most durable, best paint option until Jason went over this with me. Then, I read about the advantages of base coat/clear coat and I see where it is much more durable, easier to repair and most of all the shine, wow. I mean over a half century has passed. Paint is much better today, like tires are much better than they were in the 1960s.
I have 3 parts left in the restoration. I'll show the finished car in the last part. Editing the many hours of video often takes more than 100 hours per story, and that includes my barn finds, like the Foulger Ford Boss 429 find where I flew out to California twice to film. I hope you understand. The restoration has been fun and I'll get it done.
Do 67/68 Shelby's not have the line in the middle of the rear window like a normal fastback does? I didn't see one in this car. Both my 67 and 68 fastbacks have the line in the back window.
Hey Jerry great episode. Did Jason use any sealant around the windshield or is it just the rubber. I’m working on my own mustang and will be installing glass soon.
I was surprised to not see him use any sealant in the video since Ford did from the factory. It's called 3M 08509 Bedding compound and the correct way to do it can be seen in the install video by west coast classic cougars. This topic comes up a lot on the vintage Mustang forums.
This guy has to be in the top 5 Mustang restorers in the country. I have been watching from the beginning. This is amazing.
No doubt. Jerry is one of the best at his craft and so is this man. What an AMAZING thing to document. A huge thanks to all involved.
Not sure who else could be even close to him because he does it all himself. I’ve watched from the beginning also and it’s incredible.
