- Mater Dei and Kahuku went at it in Santa Ana, and this game had a different energy compared to last week! Kahuku the best team in Hawaii came into the game undefeated as did Mater Dei, and fans on both sides couldn't wait to see how this game would end! Mater Dei and Kahuku fighting to stay undefeated was special for all football fans to enjoy.

I love Kahuku. They were outsized and outmatched, but they played like they knew they were nobody's bitch. They made some great plays, especially on defense. They also had a few calls go against them that were questionable. Kahuku plays with a lot of heart and I wish them nothing, but success for the rest of the season. I found myself cheering for them all the way. Doing the Haka at the end must have been hard for these guys, but they powered through.

In any respect, this Kahuku team is not the same size as last year's team that gave St. John Bosco and St. Francis Academy a run for their money. They are probably up and coming juniors and sophomores. They'll be bigger next year.

John Bosco, Bishop Gorman, and many of the west coast teams, they are always on the roster. Especially, at the linemen and linebacker spots. You know what's overrated? Whites and blacks representing Judaism. There are NO black or white juws (notice the spelling) in the Bible. You can't name me one. Mater Dei, Saint John Boscoe and Bishop Gorman are just way better pound per pound than any other team in the nation, Cali ball is a different kind of football, it is just that simple.
Since BOSCOE recruits all the LONG BEACH POLY talent , they should be called ST JOHNS LONG BEACH POLY. They destroyed the once NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED POLY PROGRAM.
In 2015, Concord De La Salle went to Euless Trinity as the No. 1 team in the nation and lost 26-21. Coach Justin Alumbaugh said the experience exceeded expectations. He said his wife required 30 minutes just to get through a massive tailgate party before the game. (via LA TIMES)

Ever since I was at mater dei these teams from Hawaii always talk a big game, look all tough, yell and scream, and you’re actually intimidated until the whistle blows and you realize with all due respect they don’t have the talent we did on the mainland. I respect them because they keep coming back even after getting blown out every year

Damn I thought Kahuku would do better against Mater Dei. When playing the top teams in the country you really can't shoot yourselves in the foot. There's pretty much no room for mistakes. If I’m not mistaken they took that loss and the following week shocked the shit out the country and beat St. John’s Bosco a week later and that’s what makes this game special to me because at any given time both MD and SJB are the #1 team in the country.
You can dominate in the islands ...but a whole different story when you step on the mainland...most polys built for strength..yet, still lack in the cardio and speed dept..

Not really. Any team that schedules Mater Dei understands what is going to happen, and they are free to decide to play or not. Bingham, Creekside, and Kahuku all have a chance to win state titles this year. If they do, it will be because they challenged themselves by playing MD.

LOL! In the last few years, Kahuku has played four of the five best teams in the NATION: Mater Dei, Bosco, Gorman and St Frances. MD, Bosco and Gorman have won EVERY national title since 2014(!)
