I worked for Oakland Scavenger/WMX-WM for 30 years and can answer any questions you have about them. I saw a few bonus trucks from USA Waste in the yard which purchased WMX in 1999 and changed the name to WM, thankfully they did not keep the USA puke green colors. Thank You for the great memories.
@@WMAC_Master I have no idea what brand of carts used, the pictures of the carts and closed landfill was used by East Bay Disposal and a company owned by Oakland Scavenger Co.

Absolutely one hell of a video Aaron! Your reach for resources and finding this old footage is amazing. So glad you are bringing all this awesome footage to us! Excited to see what else you have up your sleeve!
It's like I'm back in my childhood again! Loved the old WMX Kann Co One Pass trucks! Lived in Hayward in the 90's into 2000. Had one run my neighborhood every Wednesday as well as Tri-ced. That brief footage of the old Tri-Ced Curb Cycle Dempster "Recycle One" truck..I almost teard up. NO videos or photos of thoes online. Thank you for posting this video!
Thanks for posting this Aaron! Neat to see more in depth documentation of the old days of WMAC, sure was a real treat seeing all those classic Burgundy WMX/Recycle America trucks, especially those Volvo front and rear loaders!
Wow! Thanks for the walk down memory lane Aaron! Now that’s the wmac I remember from the early 2000’s. I drove the Kann one pass trucks, the msl’s like the wittke’s, mcneilus’, and the condor amreps. I really loved those. They were still in the repainting phases back then from burgundy to green. The burgundy toters were used throughout Oakland, and were still there when I was there. I don’t remember seeing the wmac GreenWaste toters though. I know that wasn’t oro loma, but could have been a pilot program for the green waste carts prior to rolling out the rehrigs. I saw the split labrie mini max that VWM had, and the rapid rails were from VWM too. WMAC even had Pete 310 and WXLL amrep Octos they used for recycle in oro loma too back then. And prior to the split wittke front loaders in oro loma, they had mcneilus century 2 recyclers for the trash and organics. Now days, it’s all acx mcneilus msl’s, currottos, and asl’s that service residential in alameda county. What an awesome piece of history! Thanks for sharing bud! Love it!
Good to hear from you man! Love the stories from back in the day! Curious if that MSL was filmed in Alameda back when WMAC had it, not sure though. Miss those Octo ASLs! Those were nice trucks, a few actually ended up down here in SoCal Glad you enjoyed!
hearing about the history really is entertaining. btw, I believe the wmac toters were indeed a "pilot program" for castro valley. Some small filmer in castro valley stumbled upon one that said " Castro valley yard waste collection program." Turns out all of them say that on the lid. I hope someone can get one cause they are quite unique
obviously i have to watch this video again. Where did you hear about the recyclers' chassis being reused for wittke FL's? That's kind of an interesting switch. I noticed a blue sticker on the side too, i wonder if that's an oro loma sign thingy. What's the story behind the white green valley truck? I don't recall wmac ever having one. when did GV shut down? We never had anything usa waste so its also odd that there was a usa waste octo at wmac...
DAMN! NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE ANYTHING LIKE THIS!! IT SOLVES MANY OF MY QUESTIONS TOO!! didn't know we had tubbed recycle either! never knew wmac even had most of those old trucks! where in the world did the news clips come from?? did wmac send them to you?? and all those old photos were sick! and i'm glad one of the vwm wmx kanns was documented before it was scrapped enjoyed every minute thank you for posting this!
Haha thanks, knew you'd enjoy. This all came from various clips on the internet. I'm thinking the MSL footage was in Oro Loma Sanitary District but not sure. Fremont isn't out of the question either, not enough documented history to determine at the moment
@@WMmaster626 internet huh? where exactly? (maybe more oldfootage is there) for the msl, i don't believe it was OLSD because there would be oro loma toters and i believe the nestable toters are newer than what oro loma bought. could be wrong though might be castro valley, since they had tons of them wmac toters
@@WMAC_Master it’s not fremont, they ran under a different logo on their recycle tubs and never had carts. They also had their own yard in Fremont if I remember correctly. You’ve found a number of these logo’s nestable evr1s before so I’m guessing it’s probably that region, either that or OLSD rolled out nestables in certain areas
confirmed it is actually castro valley on the wayback machine, i saw on the stopwaste website in the year 2000 that the curbside recycling was serviced by BFI. Pretty interesting imo. BFI and WM were quite large back then.
The CNG Volvo Wittkes I believe came from Napa Garbage since many of their Volvos looked like this. I doubt Empire actually ran a CNG operation as well. Do you have any old pictures of the Green Valley Disposal and Napa Garbage fleet and operations. I am curious to see what trucks and carts they had.
Empire had at least 4 CNG Wittkes so it's possible that that's one of them. Just can't remember which came from Napa and which came from Empire. I have a few saved of Green Valley and Napa but very limited
