  • CARICOM leaders convened in a virtual session today to address the severe damage caused by Hurricane Beryl to the Grenadines territories of Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Prime Ministers Dickon Mitchell of Grenada and Ralph Gonzalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines presented reports highlighting the extensive destruction to Carriacou, Canouan, Union Island, and Mayreau.
In response to the crisis, the Government of Trinidad and Tobago is urgently mobilising relief supplies, which will be dispatched by marine crafts tonight. Recognizing the strong familial ties between these islands and Trinidad and Tobago, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has extended an offer to school-age children from the affected areas. These children will be allowed into Trinidad and Tobago to stay with family members during the current school holiday period.
The rapid response underscores the solidarity and support within the CARICOM community during this time of crisis.
