    Melee with half of their rotation being ranged is pretty nice like Ret, Unholy or Survival

    I prefer melee but struggle with it more than with range. I have a terrible time seeing everything going on in the fight when in melee.

    This is a no brainer. As someone with CE and m+ title from season 1, melee is 1000 times harder than ranged. Range do maybe half the mechanics melee do in season 2 dungeons if even half. Maybe they lose a bit of uptime but melee have a risk of death all the time especially since everything does a frontal and affix that force the tank to constantly reposition. This is not even a debate for higher level m+ players. I think ranged have it so good that i would put them up a tier just for being ranged this tier. Much like season 4 shadowlands.

    Just play BM Hunter and be ranged and use all your attacks while moving 🙂

    I'm a complete melee-brain and ranged is way, way easier. The fact you can see so much more of what is happening in a fight instead of being blinded by seven different AoE animations going off in your face alone already makes it easier for ranged. Not to mention all the m+ affixes and mechanics that punish melee way harder than ranged.

      There is a reason we use intellect as main stat. Stop those pathetic lies, your meele brain can't perform on a caster. You enjoying the view from distance doesn't mean its easier, you still have to perform

      @@siuu563 I’m a mage main and I play lock as well, melee is harder. The only time that our dps changes is if the tank is stupid and moves things he doesn’t have to.
      We can see everything, and the best example of it is watching people play melee in algethar academy s1 on the bird boss. They’re literally playing with a blind fold on.

    ive been saying this since wrath, its not world of warcraft, its world of meleecraft. melee always get the best tools and to top it of off, they always get the best trinkets.

    I feel that there are certain specs like ret that don't suffer as much from melee problems. Most of their attacks have like a 15 yard range, so you can still do 90% of your normal dps while dodging the swirlies.

      It's a 30%+ loss if you leave 8 yards but if we're just going to make up random stuff like you are i'll say it's a 110% loss

    I do hate chasing mobs when I have played melee and tanks being unpredictable moving here and there unnecessarily is annoying sometimes lol

    yeah i can bring the pitchforks. speaking mostly for m+. i heard raid is always a mixed bag. but even in the past you always brought more ranged than melee in raids. has always been this way.
    now to the actual post:
    a friend of mine played during bfa ele and he switched to enhancer during nyolotha content.
    he said "it is crazy how much is going on in melee and how much i have to dodge to not die" yes he died alot at the beginning. i only told him "welcome to my world".
    in shadowlands i only quote naguura. she should be famous enough to be a term to people "playing ranged dps is easy mode in m+ while healer is the most difficult".
    in shadowlands and in dragonflight, most of the things in m+, everything seems very melee unfriendly. especially the affixes. CCs get handled by heal and tank. casters only help out. exokisves were handled by healer and tank but if there was too much for both. melee took over. dispelling things goes to healers and the dd who can dispell. doesnt matter if it is ranged or melee. so no one can come at me and tell me range is harder in m+. the only time melee was easier in m+ was during legion. a meta doesnt usually dictate if it is easier for melees or casters. it only shows which specs are too powerful (looking at tripple outlaw from bfa s2). i dont remember a melee spec really being really good in this addon besides, sub, enhancer and dh. they all had their time to shine for a month then they got nerfed and disappeared. balancing was pure horror this expac. besides s1 nothing was really balanced in m+
    also ret isnt a pure melee spec atm.

    Most melee have abilities that allow them to get back into range very quickly, so their uptime should be much higher. Doing utility and mechanic duty falls on ranged dps the vast majority of time really hurting their dps output.

      As ret this season, I’ve had a lot of pugs point at me for most affixs and stuff that I can do prolly why a lot of ranged like playing with tho

    I really like Elemental shaman, lava surge, earth shock, flame shock , stormkeeper LB CL are instants, and you can cast in movement every 1,5 min. I never cancel cast being elemental

    As a casual m+ player (18 to 20 range) I played Tank, Melee, Range, and Healer. Ranged is HIGHLY dependant on the tank NOT pulling the mobs out of their range, especially during a ramp. Something that doesn't really translate to melee cause they just shimmy with the packs. Also sometimes mechanics HAMMER ranged. We have to bait, we have range specific mechanic, then we get melted by a dot. Yes range can see more things but we also handle a lot of CCs. On the nice side we don't get frontaled and ground mechanics aren't just piled up around us. The ease of range is therefore on how good the tanks/ healers are to help keep things in range and heal us so we move minimally. Since I play melee a lot, I REALLY struggle with ranged because I have the 'melee bounce' always jumping and shifting around so I don't get hit thus canceling my casts lol
    Melee: Is just plain fun, up close and personal to all the mobs, bouncing around trying not to get hit. Offhealing, shielding,interrupting, stunning, big burst dopamine with large pulls are had. Downsides of melee is ripping threat at the beginning of a pull and getted KO-ed, the number of ground mechanics to dodge is hard sometimes to see especially with larger pulls. And its easy to get too caught up in your rotation that you don't see a fixate (spiteful for instance) and you get comboed to death.

      "range specific mechanic" lmao. Literally like the only ranged pain point is, what, chains boss in Neltharus? Beyond that, ranged is omega piss. I have literally almost never seen somebody switch to ranged and complain about doing damage or dying, but I've seen some ranged main friends absolutely eat shit while playing melee specs. Avoiding frontals in a 20-mob pull while avoiding swirlies (which Blizzard is obsessed with lately) and making sure you're actually in range to do damage is infinitely harder than, what, occasionally actually having to press a defensive while Payphoning the rest of the dungeon? Oh boo hoo.
      I definitely agree with you on "the melee bounce" though. I'm a melee main, but somehow I manage to just fucking stand still. Doesn't help that my co-melee are hopped up on sugar when we do first boss in Freehold though and have to keep demolishing their A and D the entire fight.

    This weird inaccurate idea that more complexity = better gameplay is ruining that game man.
    Some of the funnest and most popular specs in the game are the simplest. The easiest content in the game is played the most. The easiest version of the game is more popular than the current version of the game.
    Clearly people like when the game is more simple and focussed on more approachable and accessible fun.
    “Give us More Buttons + More Complexity” has only made the game worse for most of its players.

    I raided melee most of my wow career so i maybe i just got good at it but I think melee being able to move and dps is a huge advantage I dont think one is easier than the other because there are situations that disdavantage both but I dont think veing ranged and having to manage your movemebt is as easy as most people say

      I play ranged, ranged being not able to move is no longer a thing. I’m a mage main, I can just ice flow and move while casting if I need to, hunters can just run and gun, locks can conflag on the go, priests just have dot uptime, ele shamans have a lot of instant cast procs in their rotation.
      The only issue is with some classes like lock or fire mage if the tank moves badly it can reduce your dps output but that’s about it.

    I like shadow priest. Doesnt need movement. The dots are our movement. We can move and always be doing damage with dots. That why I prefer shadow priest.

    To add to this, there are bosses that are completly bullshit to melees and others that are completly bullshit to distance, this happend on raids and dungeons, theres even a meme about a boss on the final raid of shadowlands that is really easy for casters, meanwhile the melee players are sweeting tryhards, on the other hand the last raid of DF has smolderon that is a really good problem for casters, but easy for melee players

    This depends on what version of WoW. In classic try doing dps as melee during phase 2 of Onyxia after the welps are dead. Or phase 3 of Mim in Ulduar as melee. I have played both, ranged was always easier in the older versions of WoW.

    In my opinion melee is harder and range feels like ur in a backseat and can relax and enjoy the show while ur doing massive dmg.

    Melee DPS is nice in small groups and sucks in big raids when there are always 1-3 people that can't move and force you to move away somewhere and still be able to stay in boss range.
    Rrange DPS is easier as rarely they have to move and have more space to move around.
    What I like is the classes that empower the type of class they are: Paladin for example, which can withstand some damage from the boss or skip certain mechanics that would be harder to survive or endure by ranged DPS classes. Also the fact that most of the melee classes are plate classes as opposed to ranged classes which are mail, leather, and cloth.
    It was a nice video putting them side by side without favoring any.
    Some dungeons are great for ranged and harder for melee and some are the opposite. The same goes for raid bosses. So there is a good balance overall that makes it fun to play both.
    In previous patches ranged had it much easier than melee as most mechanics did not require them to move and switching targets was possible from the same position. Or ranged could pre-position themselves anticipating the next boss mechanic. As an example: Sindragosa fight in ICC: Pre-positioning ranged behind the ice pillars while melee had to stay as long as possible near the boss to DPS.

    Just play the most brain dead spec of all time and my personal fav the bad mouthing hunter(bm) a spec so easy you can just bad mouth your way through anything🤣🤣🤣

    naagura made a video about this for m+ and she said ranged is easy mode.
    a friend of mine changed from ele shaman to enhancer back in BFA S3. he was overwhelmed by the shit he had to pay attention to.
    so basically they said the opposite that you say. ranged is essentional just good positioning.
    as a melee you have to beware on how the tank moves targets. if mobs have cleave and you dont pay attention you are dead.
    melee has always been way more difficult in m+ than ranged. the opposite goes for raids. that is usually more melee friendly. but you only bring about 5-6 melees in mythic raiding.

    Every now and then I feel forced to try/play survival hunter. The damage is nice but it's so hard to be melee. All the stuff you have to dodge, mobs running out of range, etc. I envy everyone who's able to do that. I love beeing range. Epecially as BM 🤪

    More than half of the danger zones are near the boss (where mellee are). I don't care some ranged need to stop casting to move becasue less than 50% of the time they really need to move.

    Unless we're talking about tank and spank content ranged have it easier for the fact they don't to move to avoid incoming damage or to target a new enemy, so they can more consistantly deal damage.
