It’s a journey Kev and you’ve got to love. It . . . NRs - get passed that and don’t let the game beat you . . . Less emotion and agree with others Hogan has it all - keep it up I’m with you on the his journey (13.4) single figures by season end 😉
From looking at your swing for the first time I reckon there are a few things you could try. On your backswing you are deliberately cocking your wrists early rather than allowing your wrists to cock naturally. This probably also means you are using your right hand/arm more in the backswing than your left hand/arm. The backswing is mainly your left hand/arm pushing back and you push back towards your right pocket (this is a dynamic target as your right hip will move back in your backswing). What you find is your wrist will naturally cock and you will get into a great position at the top of your swing producing a flatter swing plane. On your downswing think about right hand/ right pocket again so you come back down on the same path. Don’t worry about neutralising your swing path, you need to go back on the inside and come down on the inside. This will help you with rotation and balance. In my opinion anyway. Hope you give this a try.
Good to hear from you Kev, I’m glad you’re back out playing again even though the rounds aren’t what you want at the minute. I’m glad to hear you’re chipping and putting were a positive in your last round. That is something to take into next week. I don’t know technical terms I can only give you feelings of what I do when I hit my bad shots. I have two main bad shots, one is a block and the other is a pull/draw. My causes of the block are two reasons :- 1) somethings when I’m trying a 3/4 or punch shot I block the follow through instead of completing my swing like I would on a full swing 2) if I’m trying for more distance sometimes I can start the downswing with my hands and then they just stay in front of the club face. My causes of the pull draw are when I feel like I rush my swing from start to finish and sort of lock my arms and swing flat and around my body instead of through. I like you can be a bit of an over thinker and if I start thinking I have to hit this position to stop this blah blah blah....well I’m basically f’d when I start doing that. So I try and fix my problems with thoughts cos I know my good swing is in there I just have to give it a chance to come out. If I’m blocking my 3/4/punch shots I start making sure before I hit the next one I have 2 practice swings before each shot where I follow though and hold the finish and when I’m standing over the ball im just focusing on following through. If I’m blocking cos of my hands I try and have the thought of my flicking the head of the club through with my wrists and I have 2 slow practice swings, where I snap my wrists at impact. This is obviously impossible to do at full speed, but the thought helps me. If I’m dragging the ball I really focus on slowing down my takeaway and putting a slight pause in at the top of my backswing. Also in my practice swing I exaggerate the feeling of my follow through going more forward and through rather than round. Sorry again for the long answer, but to fair you keep asking detailed questions 😂😜😂😜😂 Stick with it mate the good games will come, just don’t try and force them. Go out each week thinking about one positive from the week before even if all you can only manage to think of is one good shot😜. You’re better off thinking of one good shot that 40 bad ones😜😂. All the best pal and I hope you had a great time away with the family😀👍
If you have the 18Birdies app, then give us a follow and you can see what my rounds are like and see how much my game can fluctuate off a 6hcp. I only post completed rounds. If I pull out due to my bad back then I don’t upload it so there will be some gaps in my playing history. My details are just my name and my pic is me and my wife and I’m wearing a blue peak cap. Particularly look at a round on 25/5/18 and look at the scorecard. My ball striking was good, but my putting particularly on the front nine was hideous. I had 3x 3putts and 1x 4putt in the first nine holes. On the 13 hole I remember something about my putting stroke and I played much better. It’s a fun app and I normally just plug in my scores at the end of the round, but now I have an Apple Watch I might do a few of them while on the course. As I can enter the details as I go without touching my phone.
See, Aim, stand up & Relax, swing. Keep it simple mate cos the mind must be free for the muscles to be free. Play in slow motion. Just play and forget about goals and you will accomplish. Your dedication is wonderful to see.
Wouldn't worry about Kevin just go out play and try to play without thoughts just free golf, like yourself I worked hard to get my handicap down and got to 12 but have had a terrible year this year and have actually given up the game for the remainder of this year as not enjoying it and thinking to much technical crap!
A big pull is my miss. Normally happens when I move the ball to far forwards and / or my hands are to close to body. Slowing my swing down / feeling like a pause at the top of my backswing cures my pulls. What was the facebook group you mentioned?
I had been on a really good feeling from last year, everything was trending in the right direction and I was enjoying my golf. That was up to the last few weeks where it has gotten progressively worse to the point where now I can’t hit any iron to save my life. There are shanks, slices, fats, thins you name it. So much so I can’t be arsed to play anymore. I can feel there is something very wrong with my swing but no idea how to fix it Anyway keep at it Kev, sounds like you have a plan and you will get there in the end!
Great to hear from you, out of all the RUclips channels yours is definitely the one I can relate to the most. It’s not easy getting better with kids and a job! I’m having the exact same problem myself over the past 3 rounds, before that I was playing the best golf of my life for about 2 months. my bad shot is normally over the top, I think a winter of trying to fix that and create more of a draw shot has resulted in a pull, now all of my misses are left. I think an overly strong grip might be playing causing my pulls, did your coach mention your grip at all? Sounds like it’s probably just your swing path though judging from your track man numbers.
I was blocking and hooking the ball and then I had a lesson with Chris Ryan and he fixed me straight away, I was 11 degree from inside with a closed club face when I finished my lesson I was 1 to 2 degree from inside with neutral club face 90% of time but my hooks r gone now. #hardworkpaysoff #alotofrangework
Hi Kevin great and honest video as normal 👍 Stick with Ryan and try and see him as much as time and money will allow 🏌🏾 Stick with it we’ve all been there
Suffer from the same thing ,hooking everything some days .1 month ago walked off the course after pulling every shot lost 7 balls in 9 holes ,the ones I did hit straight were worm burners or topped ,looked like I had never played before , this eventually crept into the fairway woods and driver .pointed out by someone my hands were not far enough forward at address,so there was no time to square the club face ,have since made massive effort to rectify this with tons of range time and re set driver and fairways back to neutral settings on the hosel ( was set to a draw) and let natural ball flight take over ,hitting a lot straighter now ,just keeping an eye on club face and hands ,it's so easy for a slight fault to magnify and screw your whole game .
I feel your pain mate, I keep randomly topping shots for no reason whatsoever, so frustrating! I dropped you a dm on instagram the other day about Mashie.
Pull out the ole smart phone 📱 and record your swing. I would be willing to bet you are changing your swing angles at some point. Probably lifting your head and moving your hips forward in the back swing. Good luck.
Start from your club head alignment. Is it squared to the target line? Then go to your grip. Is your grip to strong causing you to close the club head at impact?
Your swing looks pretty good to me. You could try flattening it out at the top of your back swing but it seems to me you present the club to the ball pretty much on plane. I suggested the grip because if you are closing your face that would definitely cause the ball to pull left. If you leave it open then the ball is probably going right. Getting it square to your target starts with (but not limited to) your grip. You swing the club better than most single digit guys I play with here in Hawaii.
Ya i think the grip is a super important place to start. I struggle with pulling my irons as well, but if i get a weaker grip i'm able to shape a nice fade. Then I also adjust my stance a little bit to help start that fade as well.
Based on your video and what you talked about, probably a couple issues. Can't fully tell as there is no face on view camera work. If you are pulling it AND you are coming from the inside, your club face is way too shut because that means your face is closed relative to target line still, so possibly too strong a grip or too used to flipping the hands. Of course that is probably a symptom. Your swing also looks very steep, but still inside which leads me to think your swing is too much hands involved and not enough lower body action and probably get stuck at some point in the turn. Most likely your ACTUAL problem is lack of forward movement/weight transfer towards the ball and you hang back which results in your hands doing more work and loss of distance too. Just my opinion on what I see.
Hi Kev My game is in a dark place as well last time out I couldn't hit my irons some going left and was shanking I went down the range next day and things were even worse. I had a lesson yesterday and I'm casting the club on my down swing which is causing me to shank and hit some left as well I'm working on trying to get my hips to start the down swing had some success at the range today I've got a big works golf comp on Monday and I'm crapping myself already. Glad things are getting better for you. I'd like the link to Liams Facebook please.
when swinging draw an 8 on its side ∞ with your swing, pull back the club from the outside and on your down swing drive across the ball to the right , pretty much from the inside of your swing to out. Dont be too literal when swinging on the imaginary 8 its just to give you something to different to think about when trying to correct your swing path. (apologies I didnt explain it that well but i hope you get the idea)
Feel your pain!!!! Enough said!

Thanks mate. Yeh, was lovely ta. Some good stuff there too... we definitely seem to have some similar things going on 👍🏌️♂️😳

Yup. Bitch of a game right?

Yeh, I’ve been told that before actually 👍

Its very frustrating mate got my iron play going well but my driving is pants. Keep at it. Love your video's

Grip is a funny one as I’m not too sure I really understand it. 😬
