Thank you so much! That's a great compliment, because there's a large crowd of "spotters" here, but I'm happy if people like the videos that come out of it. Greetings back to Greece!
It's not easy to find the spots, but once you got to them it's just awesome! I was perfectly prepared for the rattlers and almost regret that I didn't see one.
I stopped this video to say how much I have enjoyed the sights very well done I like your vantage point looking down on the trains I appreciate your work know back to the show
Nicely filmed and produced! Absolutely rustic, yet serene, vistas throughout. Loved the cactus flowers. Very windy though; could hear the wind whistlin'. I believe even today the 4 corners region is getting a ton of wind.
Thanks. There's always wind on top of a mountain - well you don't have any in FL, do you ;) The gusts were into the 30+ mph, so this wasn't optimal for filming, but it still came out well. The wind just adds authenticity to the video lol. The scenery and silence are wonderful. I would have liked to stay longer in the area, but didn't have time.
Thank you for posting this collage of trains. It really shows that you are a pro at this, because it doesn't appear to be any main roads that allow an average person like me to set up. The multiple spectacular shots is great and thanks for taking the time for those "highrise" shots. Luke
Thank you, Luke. There's nothing really special or "pro" in what I'm doing. I have fun exploring and finding nice spots for interesting shots without trespassing, which sometimes requires some research. But that's basically it.
thanks for this video I deeply appreciate work. I loved the mixture of montain and ground shots. the mountain gave a good idea how long the trains really are
Great work Sir! Well shot and edited with top locations. Makes me miss the US more every day, rail fanning just isn't the same down here..LOL Well done. Cheers Gregg.
Dang, that's really far away. But when I visited Australia some years ago, my interest in trains got actually revived, because I could look at the station in Melbourne and watch trains from my hotel room. I didn't do videoing back then (just photography), but it was fun! Yet I understand you, of course, railfanning in the US is just a special thing.
Now thats cool, Melbourne is my favourite city in Australia, great culture and classy plus it has trams! Like you, I did stills until I got into video about 10 yrs ago and love it. When I shot stills it was on film, so it cost you money for every shot!! I hope to be back state side in a year or so?? Until then I have my layout to get my fix of BNSF..LOL Cheers Gregg.
My favorite place (funny that you already converted to the "ou" forms) in AU is Phillip Island, which I will always remember for the cute southern Koala bears and, in particular, the dwarf penguins stumbling upon my tiptoes when they hurried across the beach at nightfall! You have a BNSF layout in Australia?! How will you get this shipped back here?
This is one of the best videos you have ever done. Couple of questions for you: 1) Did you find all the photo locations yourself or did you have any sort of railfan guidebook to assist you? 2) Were there any snakes, other than the trains "snaking" through the canyon? Great job, as always. Thanks so much for all the work you do in getting these videos produced.
Thank you very much. I did some research before I traveled there and knew that west of Flagstaff, access to the Transcon would not be easy. There are some road crossings that one can find on google maps, but in the canyon I was on my own. I had gotten some idea from old websites and youtube videos, but wasn't sure what to make out of it. Getting on top of the mountains meant hiking without a trail, which brings me to your second, absolutely relevant, question. No, I did not encounter any nasty animals, but I had also carefully prepared myself for this issue by learning about the behavior of rattlesnakes, scorpions, black widows, to name a few, before the trip. In these areas you are on your own. Nobody can aid you if something happens and don't think the cell phone is necessarily of any help due to lack of reception. Also, there are no actual roads, only washes or sandy and rocky dirt roads occasionally used by the 4x4 vehicles of local farmers. Overall, it was a real adventure and I enjoyed every single moment of it. In a future video I will feature Union Pacific's Sunset Route in South Arizona, where I made a similar excursion into the Sonoran Desert at 110 F without shade, but that's a story to be told at another time... :)
+New River Valley Trains No, I have already used it for some time, but only in HD, because of storage and upload times. I haven't yet decided if all future footage will be in 4k or only special videos. Thanks!
There's some cactus in the north, but much more and bigger ones in the south. They will appear in upcoming videos from the UP Sunset Route. Greetings back!
Awesome! Well, there will be several more videos from all over Arizona, but I have no plans of dedicated railfanning travels in the near future as of now.
Haha, awesome. Don't forget the cactus ;) But wait, in a couple weeks I'll upload videos from the UP Sunset Route through the Sonoran Desert, which is equally impressive...
Thanks for great video from unusual locations! The sceneries are simply breathtaking. Just one correction: #6867 (at 26:19) is ES44C4, not ES44DC as noted ;)
I rode the Grand Canyon RR a few years ago. On the way back to the motel in Sedona I started seeing BNSF trains, with helpers and DPU's. I was so exhausted I didn't stop to watch them climbing a mountain. A lot of them! (My wife would have made me walk back LOL.) Next time I go I will find those trains and spend some time there.
Awesome! Good stuff that. And have a CSX locomotive shoving, too. I assume you were outside the fence area when you shot that, or were you on the cobblestones?
+Iron Horse Imagery I stood right on the platform of the station/visitor center, which offers some space. The platform to the left and right is rather narrow and I didn't use a wide-angle lens.
Oh I know. I'm sure I'll visit IN at some time, although I'd rather be interested seeing something different than CSX and NS, because we have also plenty of opportunities to get them here in GA.
My guess is that at the time of the ATSF BN merger that brought forth BNSF Santa Fe had either the 700 series Dash 9 engines on order or began to appear on the ATSF.
Lol, I don't think I fully get what you mean ;) If it's about trains, I shot plenty of them in GA this year; if it's about water, there's enough to survive :)
@@mbmars01 oh wow! I just looked that camera up. I was figuring that would be like a couple grand for as good as the quality is. What are you using now if i may ask? Your videos seem to be so much vibrant than all the others I've seen.
I'm very happy with the Panasonic camcorders and nowadays just use the successor model, WXF1. The WXF991 developed auto focus issues (because of the harsh conditions I exposed it to lol) and I needed another, reliable camcorder for filming "out in those woods, deserts, and mountains". I'm happy you like how the videos look like. The quality was already great in HD (the pre-2017 videos were mostly shot using a Panasonic HC-V550), but in 4k it's simply amazing.
Appreciate the info! All i have now is a drone that i use. Got a handful of the big boy videos from this past summer. Have a few on my channel. A drone adds a different perspective but obviously no sound. So I've been racking my brain watching review videos trying to find a camera whether it be a dslr and or camcorder. So you've helped me make my decision on what to get. So i thank you very much! Hope to get out to the dessert southwest to get some chasing in. Love the videos and keep up the great work!
I would recommend to compare models from different manufacturers as well. I chose Panasonic, because what I wanted most was excessive optical zoom. No other company beat Panasonic in that point back in those days. You may have other preferences, so take the time and compare.

Paulos Kal Greetings to you sir from Greece from Scooby in the USA! 😀💗🌈🇺🇸
Nothing beats that Western scenery for railfanning. Great stuff man.
And don't forget to watch out for Rattlesnakes!
It's not easy to find the spots, but once you got to them it's just awesome! I was perfectly prepared for the rattlers and almost regret that I didn't see one.
This has got to be one of the best videos that you have produced to date. Beautiful locations and great videography.
Thank you. I share that perception that the latest video is almost always the best...
I stopped this video to say how much I have enjoyed the sights very well done I like your vantage point looking down on the trains I appreciate your work know back to the show
+Joe Leveille Lol, thanks.
A couple of years ago it took us a week to make it from Needles to Flagstaff. So many beautiful spots to watch and video. Great job.
It's a great line, for sure.
Fantastic video, spectacular scenery!! Loved every minute of it! Thanks so much for sharing it with us😀
Thank you! As time permits I'll work on the other parts soon. There's so much more... :)
watched it on large screen it was great. thank for a great video with a lot of beautiful scenery. thanks again.
Very cool! I really think it's much better to watch these videos on a large screen.
Great shoot! Like old home week as I lived in the California high desert for too long. No trees but lots of rocks, cacti and long trains. Thanks!
Thanks! Yeah, I can imagine that it is not easy to live out there.
Outstanding video, great video locations. Your train description graphics are great, improved in every video. Thanks for posting.
Cool, thank you!

It's so flat in FL you can see from Miami to JAX. LOL. Do have wind though, called hurricanes......
I know, I have been there enough :) And your "hurry wind" sometimes even blows on us in GA lol

Great video. Huge trains and excellent photography. Keep up the good work.

GREAT VIDEO! Enjoyed the locations and appreciated the information. THANKS
Thank you. Glad you liked it!
nice camera trick @ 4:13. also you did it in 4k to awesome.
I know that more and more people watch theses videos on 4k equipment, so maybe it's now the time to switch to 4k recording/production as well.
Right
Great video and trains, beautiful scenery!
Thank you!

+Joe Leveille Thank you! I agree, to see the worms in full length is truly special.
You found some great vantage locations. Excellent video.
Climbing those rocks was somewhat challenging, but it was worth it :) Thanks!

great video loved all of the BNSFS

Thanks a lot! I don't know where you are now, but I sure do understand you!
LOL..about as far south as you can get....Australia! And the nice scenery I saw in Flagstaff was wearing skirts!! :-)

Forgot to mention I loved Flagstaff! Only spent the day there and caught Amtrak back to LA. Lots of nice scenery there!!
Gregg.
Flagstaff is nice, but for railfanning I really prefer the more quiet areas outside the town.
Spectacular scenes! Some of those trains looked like Z-scale models.
+JAMES MARK I know, they look so small, almost cute. I loved it.
Awesome. Another great video.

Nice Cactus, I was in this region to find cactus and found trains, was not so bad. Thannks. Greetings from Germany.
There's some cactus in the north, but much more and bigger ones in the south. They will appear in upcoming videos from the UP Sunset Route. Greetings back!

this would be a great n-scale lay-out. very nice scenry.
It is, for sure. And maybe some people get inspired by the video to try to model it.
you bet, i am considering it, i have enough track to do it. love the rocks and the rest of the sceanry.

That's a copy'n'paste typo. You're right, of course. Thanks,
Copy'n'paste saves a lot of time, but sometimes it can betray, too :D
Lol. It's all a matter of efficiency. The production of these videos consumes an incredible amount of time.
i use copy and paste 99.9% of the time
Another nice job! Watch out for the rattlers!!

+Donald Savage If everything works well this line has about 100 trains a day, making it one of the busiest in the entire country.
Love that meet-up at 33:25! UP and BNSF going in opposite directions! Where was that? It looked like a passenger depot of some kind.
+Iron Horse Imagery This was at the Amtrak station in Flagstaff, AZ.
Awesome! Good stuff that. And have a CSX locomotive shoving, too. I assume you were outside the fence area when you shot that, or were you on the cobblestones?

Nice! If your ever up in the Lafayette, IN area, you should pay the rail lines there a visit. CSXs Monon and NS Wabash lines converge in town.
Oh I know. I'm sure I'll visit IN at some time, although I'd rather be interested seeing something different than CSX and NS, because we have also plenty of opportunities to get them here in GA.
great video
Thank you.
the csx engine must felt like you were back at home
Seems like desert trains usually run at good speed
There's not much of an obstacle :)
Beautiful, rugged territory-no 2-mile long trains here!
I know, I loved it. Well, the last train in the video was certainly more than 2 miles long. He had insane power, too.
My guess is that at the time of the ATSF BN merger that brought forth BNSF Santa Fe had either the 700 series Dash 9 engines on order or began to appear on the ATSF.
Great video

Great!
Is that Crozier Canyon at mm14?
Yes, it is.
nice video
Thanks!
One on every channel--Is Georgia having a drought this year??
Lol, I don't think I fully get what you mean ;) If it's about trains, I shot plenty of them in GA this year; if it's about water, there's enough to survive :)
It was the "Peachtree" Springs that had me thinking Georgia.... Gone to Arizona...
Gotcha! It can be confusing at times ;)
how do they control the helper engines?
Everything is controlled from the lead engine, including the DPUs.
ok, thanks that is what i though. was not sure.
Bill Vassar. yes I want to know that too how that controlled the helper. engin
I am always lookin for STOBE the HOBO these days now that I am hip to the cause
Lol.
1:40 YOU FOUND EX BN (MWCX) OPEN HOPPER. found at Marshville NC
It is not Georgia, but it is beautiful anyway. The BNSF paint scheme just stands out especially in the night shots. Its only rival might be KCS.
I agree with both!
