They’re smart .. they’re planning to get that work completed before the summer season because every real native New Yorker knows the Rockaway peninsula banks off extremely well from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Especially since gentrification has been picking up around the 90s through the 100s
Those things suck! There are less seats and they are much smaller making them very uncomfortable when sitting for an hour plus. I was super excited for them on the A line, but what a letdown.
Better than the bridge collapsing. The fixes should allow for faster service too since any speed restrictions on that bridge should be lifted once repairs are done.
The bridge needs to be a fixed crossing & raised higher. I hate it when the bridge spins & delays the trains as if the commute isn’t long enough already.
If the A reached Long Beach, they wouldn’t shut it down since many suburbanites would be impacted. But Rockaway’s NYCHA residents?! Nahhh, “there’s shuttle buses.” 😒😒
I wonder if the wooden trestle under the tracks fill, visible in the shot at 1:01 is what they're looking to replace. If that trestle (how the original LIRR Rockaway line was built) is still there buried under the tracks post-Sandy, it _would_ be a liability in the next big storm to roll through. So, it _sounds_ like the most likely candidate for removal and replacement with something more secure, like rock (not gravel) fill and then replace the track atop that.
