    thank you! I have struggled to figure out how to get the right depth on my nymph rigs forever, and you are the first person to explain it in a way that makes sense!

    Really have enjoyed watching you videos. What is the common size fly you use. I tie my own so I stay with 24, 26 and 28. I do notice your flies are maybe 20 and 22?

    • @fishingjack
      @fishingjack  Год назад +1

      Thank you! I tie anywhere from 20-30. In the winter-spring I’ll typically fish 20-24, and as the water starts to clear I’ll stick around 22-26. In late summer they can get really picky about size and I may fish 26-28 and occasionally 30 👍🏼

    Excellent video! I was actually wondering about how do you take your split shot off? Because that was something I'd struggled with. I often ended up re-rigging up the whole thing because I had kinks in my rigs from split shots. Any tips?

    • @fishingjack
      @fishingjack  Год назад +1

      Thanks for watching! If you check out my “Indicator tips and tricks” video, there’s a clip in there on how to do it. All you need to do it pinch it sideways, stick your nail in, and pull it apart. Hope this helps!

    What about using a drop shot rig there? It's more complicated, so maybe some people would want to avoid it for that reason???

    • @fishingjack
      @fishingjack  Год назад +1

      It’s possible! Another option is a splitshot between your flies. However, I’ve found it to be easier just to use a longer leader and a single splitshot whenever possible. Play around with it and find what’s easiest for you👍🏼

  • @mikedoherty3563
    @mikedoherty3563 Год назад

    Show do you stop the split shot from sliding?

    • @fishingjack
      @fishingjack  Год назад

      The tippet ring or barrel swivel will stop it from sliding down. Pinch hard with your hemostats just above it and it shouldn’t go anywhere 👍🏼

    • @mikedoherty3563
      @mikedoherty3563 Год назад

      The ring is 4 ft above the terminal fly . I’ve tied a surgeons knot closer to the flys to keep them in the zone. Just looking for a better idea

    • @fishingjack
      @fishingjack  Год назад +1

      @@mikedoherty3563 rather than move the splitshot closer to the flies, it may be better to bump up to the next heavier size splitshot. How far you cast upstream and the distance between your indicator and flies is important. It about timing like I mentioned.

    Split shot isn't flyfishing. It's just fishing.

    • @fishingjack

      This video is about how to use splitshot when fly fishing with a fly rod- that’s why the video is called “fly fishing splitshot”. Sorry that went over your head.
