This information gives you some background on Ren and puts much of his music and performance art in perspective. I gathered the information from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's public livestreams and posts. All the information here was gathered exclusively from sources Ren personally approved for public release.
Ren is a Welsh independent artist, musician, producer, and mostly self-taught multi-instrumentalist. He pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures, which eventually caused him to discontinue his studies and return home. In addition, Ren was signed by Sony Records in 2010 and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point that he was unable to go on; consequently, his contract with Sony was dissolved. Ren would later relocate to Brighton.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada undergoing treatments. His Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, and adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Hence, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition. He recently took a break from treatments and returned to the UK to visit family and friends, and to produce some very ambitious musical projects which he just released. Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. I subbed. Hi Ren was the beginning of my journey down the rabbit hole. Perfect place to start if you ask me. Rens song Sick Boi, is usually the next song. It takes place in the same place as Hi Ren and is sort of a continuation, but it has a beat and he raps rather than play guitar. The Tales of Jenny and Screech (and Violet) trilogy should be done in one video. About 13 minutes long. There’s a video on Rens channel with all three in one. It’s a dark story, but the storytelling is on another level. I hope this doesn’t get confusing, but Ren released an Instagram post that’s now on RUclips, with a backstory of the type of character Screech was. Ren commented on that video about what all he had to go through to bring all the characters to life. But it isn’t necessarily crucial that you watch that. Just sharing what I’ve learned along the way. Enjoy the ride!

Yes I did feel that! I felt like there was more of a heavy metal vibe in terms of melodies and note choices when Ren was playing as the dark, doubting, condescending character, which consisted of alot of chromatic melodies (playing notes that are literally 1 semi tone apart from each other), which was actually perceived as dark, forbidden, 'evil' and 'demonic' back in the past. when compared to the other voice which was more hopeful and optimistic which stayed in its' scale during the guitar playing and had a gentler rhythm, which I found to be an interesting contrast yet a beautifully executed personification between the rebellious voice, and the voice which is okay and hopeful with how things are moving forward. Also seeing how the 2 styles blended in with each other during the last few phrases was an amazing representation of Ren accepting the duality of human nature, which although is a battle is a necessary component to what makes us human, as represented in his speech at the end --D (guy on the left)

That was well done, pausing for your sister's thoughts, without influencing her impressions. It was nice to see. I was getting worried around the 7:30 minute mark, that you were not "getting it", but your sister was on to it and steered you in the right direction.

I loved your reactions. If it helps I'll give a lil tip. Knox Hill does in full break down analysis of Ren's music. I think as a reactir you should do your reactions, then rewatch his video in full a second time, and to get an indepth breakdown go to Knox Hill's reaction of Ren's video. Ren has said that Knox does the best and most accurate breakdowns. They have become good friends. I can't wait to watch you both fall diwn the Ren Rabbit hole. Also my suggestion is for you to react to his band The Big Push "I Shot the Sheriff: medley the one he is wearing red suspenders in. They also fo War Pigs right after that. I think those two should be done consecutively. Also please please maje sure you do all The Money Games in order and his Love Music 1-4 in order. Ty

And as an independent artist, he just took the #1 spot on the UK Album charts, and charted around the world even though he’s unable to tour or play any shows to support the release because he’s been in Canada for the last 9 months getting intensive medical treatments for his autoimmune issues.

Also, I don't know if you are aware, but copyright is not an issue with Ren reactions. That way you can pause or not pause as you see fit instead of being forced to pause because of copyright concerns. Ren supports the reactor community.

Perhaps in future reactions you can bring the volume up on the performance to match your mic levels. In other words, the volume was very low on the video you are reacting too.

Word of advice mate no need to stop the video cos he has no label. He's independent and it stops the flow of the song
Far too many pauses!!!! You didn't give your sister enough time to form an opinion. A better idea would have been to allow her to stop the video all the way through when she felt that she wanted to say something.
Why did you cut parts of the video out?
Okay, take this as constructive criticism, first the videos audio level is only half your microphone level so that is a distraction, then if it is your sister's reaction, maybe let her do the controlling of stopping and starting and reacting. Just saying.
The natural next song to check out was queued up at the end, 'Sick Boi' which has themes of his difficulty with his illness, his years of misdiagnoses and mistreatment by medical professionals, [Easter Egg in 'Hi Ren' look at the back of the wheelchair that is marked 'L.D.' for Lyme Disease] and segues into more social commentary themes.
Some people [LOTR fans] see this and the Gollum-Smeagol battle, the inner voice, mirror, or critic is actually a necessary part of the brain that lets you reflect on your actions, those without it are narcissistic or sociopathic.
The inner voice can often be tainted by the message we got especially young, neglect, abuse, harsh criticism trains that inner voice with those tapes. This can be analogous to the D&D Alignment Chart, when the voice is challenged by Ren it goes full 'Chaotic Evil.'
Ren first wrote this without the turnaround of positivity at the end, the darkness originally won, but it was added later. This is true also of 'Suic*de' which deals with his personal struggles then with his childhood friend, which is picked up again in 'For Joe.'
You get more social commentary themes in the 3 parts of 'Money Game Part 1,' 'Money Game Part 2 (Lyric Video),' and 'Money Game Part 3.'
The best of Ren's one take video done by his cinematographer collaborator Samuel that shows off Ren's guitar skills, lyricism, and storytelling is their epic trilogy of 'The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full)' that includes the finale of 'Violet's Tale,' this is the proper way to do the reaction is the full set as they tell a story.
The back catalog is huge, there is the first album "Freckled Angels' and the new UK #1 Album 'Sick Boi' then all the street busking work he did with 'The Big Push,' the collaborations with another independent UK artist Chinchilla, so yeah, strap in and there is a long road ahead.

Solid reaction but some horrible choices on when to pause. It felt like you killed the chance for natural emotional responses by pausing at critical times and THEN not rewinding to present the opportunity again. But I don't have the reaction channel so what do I know? LOL
Thanks for the feedback, we're trying to minimize pauses from now on, and making sure that we do rewind so that we don't miss important moments and aim to have more of the discussions at the end to not ruin the flow. This was our first month of doing reactions so we had no clue really about to approach it in the best way, but we've taken some time out now to improve. Really appreciate the advice it helps

To be fair there's a big age difference between us (6 years) I'm 26 and my sister is 19 (turning 20) I think it'll be healthy for us to discuss topics in these music reactions, and as we go down the line we can both learn from each other through the discussions
Horrible. Almost always when there is a reaction with two people and one has seen the video, the person that has seen it constantly pauses and asks the person watching for the first time about what they had just seen. There is no flow just choppy little pieces of the video. I don't think you realized that you did your sister a disservice
