- Australian cricketers have admitted ball-tampering. The batsman Cameron Bancroft said that he attempted to tamper with the ball and his captain, Steve Smith, added that the team's senior players planned it. The Australian prime minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said, he was 'shocked' and 'disappointed' with the news. He said he had expressed his concerns to the Cricket Australia chairman, David Peever.'I have expressed to him very clearly and unequivocally my disappointment and my concern about the events in South Africa,' Turnbull said. 'How can our team be engaged in cheating like this? It beggars belief,' he added.

It is certainly a sad day, not just for Australian Cricket but for the entire country. It is really interesting to see the Australian prime minister requesting CA for a decisive action. CA's action should set an example to take Australian Cricket in right direction...

It's not just first time ,this incident they did in past many many times but somehow camera didn't captured them.

If it were a Pakistani cricketer, he would probably be banned from the sport for 5 years plus possible jail time. Cricket Australia should really consider the magnitude of this issue, and punish accordingly. As great a cricketer Steve Smith is, no one individual is bigger than the sport. It is the integrity of cricket itself that needs to be protected here. The punishment to Steve Smith needs to set a precedent, so the sport itself does not suffer from future violations.

I may have over exaggerated a bit in my initial comment. When this video of the Prime Minister was first uploaded, Steve Smith was only penalized for 1 match. I thought a 1 match ban was inadequate, hence why I went on a rant, and wrote what I did up above. A full year suspension is more than adequate for the incident, and am very proud of the way Steve Smith carried himself. A lot of good will come out of this suspension as every cricket will now reconsider before improperly handling the cricket ball.
just can tell you 1 thing i am an indian though but really david warnar and steven smith are those kind of player you love to watch and yes mistakes are done by human
how wouldn't it be , because what your players normally does are much higher level things like biting the ball, bringing bottle tops and may be even knives into the ground for tampering purpose.

I can understand the reactions. But no one has the right to call the Aussies cheats and not others. People are criticizing Smith, Warner and Bancroft only because they were punished brutally for their actions and no other country has had the gall to do that to their own players. Hats off to Cricket Australia. But calling these guys cheats is not fair.

Why on earth is PM commenting on this issue? It is not a big deal. Hundreds of cricketers have done this in the past. I mean, look at Shahid Afridi. It was just a "yellow card" offence and doesn't have anything to do with the Reputation of whole Australia.

Seems like Australians are "too" proud to be Australians. Anyways, If it were Virat Kohli in place of Steven Smith the other day, I'd still be proud of being an Indian and no one would be as ashamed as Aussies are right now. Sachin Tendulkar , you watch him whenever umpire gives him out he goes without questioning , you are talking about ball temparing in South Africa ,later that wasn't proved just media made it hype , umpires rechecked the ball and said no signs of tempering , what he was doing is clearing soil from seam.
